Mermaid AU, inspired by the fanart above!

Roman's POV

I was swimming around, doing flips, talking to the sea creatures, watching the way my tail shimmered in the sun and just exploring
Being the prince is hard, you do nothing fun at all because everything is done for you. Today I managed to escape father and explore the empty space around the kingdoms.

I turned a corner to see the bottoms of a boat. I felt my eyes widen and my body stiffen. Rule one on coming across a human boat: Swim, never look back, yet I didn't, something caught my attention. It squinted my eyes to see what it was, it was something reflecting the light of the sun in my eye.

Cautiously, I slowly swam to the source of the light. What I saw was a mers biggest fear.

A mer, that I've never seen before, was tangled up in a loose but if rope. The boat was moving slowly but it was enough movement to prevent this mer from escaping.

Adrenaline kicked in and I swiftly and quietly made my way to the victim. As I was approaching him, I took in his appearance, his tail was a similar shape to mine (his side fines were pinned to his rest of his tail by the rope) yet his was purple with back patterns. He had almost faded purple hair and the most beautiful brown eyes I've ever seen

The boat made a sudden stop and I had to
dodge the anchor. That wouldn't have been a nice death...

What caught my attention about this mysterious mers appearance, was the permanent black eyeshadow that was under his eyes

He was a Mer Witch
(Like a Dragon Witch, ya get the point?)

Mer Witches has incredible power and most chose to be evil, yet, this one looked like he couldn't hurt a fly.

I swam up to him and placed a hand on his bare shoulder. He whipped himself around to face me and looked as if he was going to scream. I hastily put a finger my lip and silenced him. His eyes were bloodshot from what I guessed to be him crying.

"I'm gonna get you out of here, put you need to keep quiet" I whispered. He whimpered and his eyes looked down and hit left side fin.

The rope had cut him and he was losing blood. FAST

I pulled out the dagger I had and broke the rope. It wasn't hard to break but with your arms basically stapled to you're sides, it's not the easiest to escape.

I broke the last knot and the Mer Witch fell into my arms "Can you swim?" I asked, still keeping my voice to a whisper. He shook his head "It hurts" He spoke with a scratchy voice.

I wrapped my arms around his chest "You're gonna have to hold on"
He reluctantly wrapped his arms around my waist  and I swam to a near ledge of sand with a rock for cover.

I made sure the turn I made wasn't too sharp so the Mer Witch wouldn't be in more pain

We both made it begin the rock and I carefully placed the Mer Witch down "I er, I never caught your name" I said awkwardly. He smirked "And I never threw it"

This sassy bitch

I dramatically gasped "I'm royally offended!" The stranger laughed but was almost immediately replaced by a hiss of pain

Oh shit, he's bleeding, forgot that

"How deep is the wound?" I asked him
"It's not too deep but its a big cut" He poked it, winced as the sticky red substance know as blood attached itself to his finger

"The names Virgil by the way" he said as he licked the blood of his finger "And yes I'm a Mer Witch please don't be scared I don't curse anyone and everyone" I chuckled
"Well, Oh-So-Scary Mer Witch, you're lucky I carry bandages around" I say and pull the bandages out of the side bag I have one

"Do I have thy consent to help the wound?" I say half jokingly
He smiled a pained smile "Thy has consent"

I put in a serious face "In all seriousness, I do need you to sit up as much as possible"
He put the hand that wasn't holding the cut and supported himself. He pushed himself so he was sitting up straight on the rock and removed the hand holding the wound

I leaned forwards and wrapped the bandages around his waist. He's bloody (pun intended) Lucky I took classes in Nursing. I made sure they were securely on his body.

"Do you live close? You can't swim with only one side fin for support" Virgil's face fell and tears stayed welling up in his eyes "No! No don't cry, I didn't mean to make you cry!" I sat down and curled my tail to my right side and put a hand on his shoulder "I hate people crying! Especially if it's my fault.."

Virgil sniffled "I er... don't have a home anymore... my mother kicked me out after finding out I wanted to use my powers to help others.." He sniffed again
"Oh.. well, it's really non of my business but, what about you dad?" I asked "Never met him, my mother took off when she was pregnant with me so she could hopefully make me evil"

Tears wear streaming down his face.
"I'm not much of a comforter, that's my brother Patton, but do you want a hu-?" Before the question left my mouth I was practically tackled into a hug

Virgil has knocked his both down onto the sand we were sitting on and air bubbles left his mouth as he evened his breathing pattern.
"S-sorry but I've been bottling up a lot lately" I smiled sadly and stroked his EXTREMELY soft hair?! How can hair be so soft?!

Ayyyyyyye it's me! There will be a part 2... and maybe multiple parts but I'm kinda tempted to make this into a proper book. If I do I'm not gonna do it until the new year or something like that so. if you want this as a book, let me know
