The Play

REQUESTED BY Alakatazia
Sorry I haven't got to it sooner! Also, two of Thomas' friends have liked my comments on Instagram. Brittney and Dominic. And Dom actually replied too. It was awhile ago when he wanted animes on Netflix to be requested to him. So I requested Saiki K and OHSHC and he replied saying he'll check them out. I feel special☺

"I am SO gonna ace this!" Roman said, throwing his fist in the air. "No way anyone did better than I!" He had just finished auditioning for the roll of Jeremy Heere in the musical Be More Chill. (Their school is recreating the play, so not the actual musical it's self.)
Will admit, Roman did do a pretty good job. And since he's so full of himself, he thought so too.
"Let's not get our hopes up now, Roman." Logan said, pushing up his glasses. "A lot of people auditioned for the leading roll. But I will admit, your acting and singing was not half bad."
"Well of course it wasn't. It was flawless!"

"Oh god, I-I'm never gonna get th-the roll.." Virgil complained.
"Well of course you will! There is no one else in this school that can play the Squip as well as you!" Patton hugged his best friend in reassurance. "Just you wait, your gonna get the eoll, don't worry!"
"I really ho-hope you get Michael M-Mell, Pat. I don't want any-anyone else to b-be smart enough to d-defeat me than you." Virgil pulled away.
"Thanks Virge!" Patton gave a warming smile. "We'll see what happens. I'll see you tomorrow! Bye bye!"
"See ya." He waved and watched him walk away before going the other way.
He walked towards his english classroom to grab homework, when he got stopped.
"Virgil Sanders!" The theatre teacher called. "I couldn't believe your preformance! You were so into character! I didn't think someone like you could pull off acting so well!" He smiled wide.
"Uh.. th-thank you..?" Virgil couldn't tell if it was a compliment or an insult.
"So, I have decided to grant you the roll early! I could tell right off the bat that you got the roll as The Squip!"
"Wh-What? Really?! Wh-Why didn't you j-just wait till tomorrow?" Virgil had to tell Patton. He couldn't wait to tell him.
"Because, I wanted you working on the script right away! Here you are!" She handed him the script and trotted away.
Virgil completely forgot about his English homework and ran home.
He grabbed his phone and called his best friend.
     "P-PATTON!"
"Whoa buddy, calm down, what's up?" Patton chuckled.
"I-I-I GOT THE ROLL AS SQ-SQUIP!" He breathed out, still running.
"What?! No way!" Patton smiled wide. "But, uh, quick question. What are you doing?"
Before he could answer, he entered his house yelling, "MOM!" And hanging up the phone.
Patton laughed. "That answers my question."

"What is it honey?" She peered her head around the corner from the kitchen.
"I got the roll as-as the Squip!" Virgil held up the script.
"Ah, sweetie! I'm so proud of you!" She brought her son into a big bear hug. "But, qhy did you get the script today? Don't you have to wait until tomorrow to find out?"
"I d-don't know. Th-the theatre teacher ga-gave it to me today." Virgil smiled more.
"Well, either way, I'm proud of you." She kissed his forehead and turned back into the kitchen. "I'm making sandwiches. You want one?"
"Y-yes please." Virfil sat down at the counter.
"Hey, I just got off the phone with your new therapist. He's going to help you with your stutter."
Virgil messed with the ends of his sleeves and looked down. "Oh.. s-sorry..."
"What? Don't be sorry! It isn't something you can control. And even so, the therapist might not be able to help, but that's okay. Still, it'll help if it were gone for the play." She turned around and handed him a sandwich, thinking about how the theatre teacher thought he was the best even with his stutter.
"Th-thanks." He took the sandwich and bit into it.
"After this, you should go practice your lines." She smiled at him.
"O-Okay." Virgil said, getting into a lighter mood.

Virgil practiced his beginning lines. After a bit of time, he got tired. He sat on the edge of his bed and held his neck.
How do I get rid of this stupid stutter? He thought. He sighed and set his script on the white desk.
"St-stupid stutter.." he muttered. He glanced at a book on his nightstand. "What i-if I just.." he grabbed the book and opened it to the bookmarked page.
He thought he could practice his stuttering if he read out loud. Of course that's what he's been doing with the script, but he wanted new lines to read everytime so it expands his vocabulary.
He read Rainbow Rowell's 'Carry On' with Baz Pitch and Simon Snow.

After hours of reading, his stutter improved only by a bit. He shut the finished book and set it aside.
He looked around for another book. Then he thought of the show Good Omens. His mother has ths book. He ran out of his room to find his mother.
"What is it sweetie?" She asked when he slid on the hard wood around the corner to the kitchen.
"Where is your book Good O-Omens?!" He asked, hardly stuttering.
She looked at him, her eyebrows raised. She smiled and said, "in my room on my desk."
Virgil rushed to her room and grabbed it. He shut his door and sat on his bed.
"It was a nice day.." he began reading.

"Virgil! Dinner's ready!" His mother called.
He set his book down and rushed downstairs. Shephards pie.
"You seem excited to read that book." She smiled. "I heard you reading. Is there a cause?"
"I was hoping i-it'd help my stutter." He took a spoonful and put in his mouth.
"Well it certainly is." She looked up at him. "Want to go to Barnes and Nobles tomorrow?" She asked.
Virgil nodded and swallowed his food. "I-I get to see wh-who's in the play wi-with me tomorrow."
"You will, huh? Let's hope Patton gets in, huh?"
     "Yeah."

"Virgil!" Patton called, waving his arm in the air and running towards him. "I got the roll as Michael Mell!"
"Really? Th-That's awesome!" Virgil hugged him and shut his locker.
"Roman Eryns got Jeremy Heere though.." he sighed.
"It'll be fine, Pat. D-don't worry." He put a hand on his friends shoulder and smiled.
"Your stutter is getting better, huh? I know you don't like talking about it, but I had to point it out."
"I've been wo-working on it for the play." They began walking to first period. Science.
"Really? That's amazing!" Patton smiled widely at his best friend. "Well, your gonna do great, trust me."
"Thanks Pat. You t-too." Virgil thought for a second. Why would the theatre teacher accept my audition with a stutter?
They walked into class and sat at the back of the room. Patton just follows Virgil so he can be there if he has a Panic! attack or something. Such a gteat friend.

"U-Uh.. can I, talk to you..?" A girl asked.
Roman smiled to her, but he already knew what she was going to ask. And he already knew the answer. "Of course."
"Uhm.. I-I like you! So, please go out with me!" She tugged at the bottom of her shirt.
"My apologies, dearest, but, there is already someone who I've got my eyes on." He smiled the most gentle way possible.
"O-Oh.. understood." And with that, she ran off.
Roman let out a huff. "Another let down. I'm starting to get used to it, which probably isn't a good thing." He shoved his hands in his coat pockets and walked into the school.
"Ah, Roman." Logan called out in the hall.
     "Hey Logan! What's up?"
"I wanted to congratulate you on getting the leading roll." He smiled a slight bit. "I'm proud of you."
"Thanks, Logan." Roman hugged him. "Lunch is about to start. Wanna get early seating?"
"We better. All those females will take it up soon. It's like you're a celebrity or something." Logan grunted.
"At this school I am." (Rest in peace Cameron Boyce, you will be forever missed❤🕊)

"H-Hey, Pat?" Virgil looked at him across the lunch table. "D-Don't you fi-find it weird that the sch-school jock hangs out with a nerd..?" He looked in the direction of Roman and Logan.
Patton looked up from his sandwich. "Yeah, I suppose. But, hey, you can be friends with whoever you'd like." He shrugged. "I mean, you and I are polar opposites, yet we hang out all the time!" He smiled wide and took a bite out of his pb+j sandwich.
     "Y-You're a great fri-friend, Pat."
"So are you, Virge." Patton said, smiling wide after swallowing his bit of sandwich.

"Can you be kicked out of a play for doing bad?" Roman asked, taking a bite out of his protien bar.
"You do realise you're talking about yourself? Roman Eryns. Stop saying such nonsense." Logan pushed up his glasses, a glare in the lense.
"You're right, I suppose. But this isn't like a small ordinary play we usually do. This is literally based off a whole musical!" Roman stopped eating, not able to finish. "What if I get a key wrong?"
"Roman! Will you stop!" Logan reached across the table and grabbed his arm. "Chill out! It's fine!"
Roman flinched and stared his friend in the eyes.
"U-Uhm.. Roman..?" A girl asked, walking up to them.
"Not now." He replied, keeping his eyes on Logan. "How am I supposed to keep calm about this? Sorry it's easier for you than it is for me." He folded his arms.
"Stop pouting. You're a senior, not a child." Logan glared. "And it's quite irritating too." He kept going. "It's like a grown man acting as a pissed off four ye-"
"Okay, I get it!" Roman scowled.
"Pretend I'm the only one in the audience." The bell rang right then. "Good luck." He walked around the table and patted Roman's shoulder before walking away.

"C'mon, let's get going. I'm excited!" Patton giggled.
Virgil stood up and they began walking. He shoved his nervously sweating hands in his pockets.
"Okay, everyone!" The theatre teacher called. "Why don't we try practising while reading the script."
"Our roles are pretty big, huh? A lot of weight put on your shoulders." A kid next to Virgil said.
"Y-Your telling m-me." He replied, not looking over.
"You play the Squip, right? I play Jeremy Heere, so we have a lot of scenes together." He looked over and smiled. "So let's not be uncomfortable around each other, yeah?"
Virgil looked over and slightly up at the one and only, Roman Eryns. The school jock. He blushed a little and nodded.
"Uh, no- ye-yeah! Uhm.. o-okay.." he quickly looked down and messed with his sleeves.
"Try not to feel so nervous around him, okay? Let's hope he's not too judgemental." Patton whispered in his ear. "You'll do great, don't worry."
"Tha-Thanks, Pat. Y-You too." Virgil looked up and smiled at his friend.

"I'm waitin' for my porno to load. My brain is gonna freakin' explode. Now of course it's time to hit the road. Which means I'll be uncomfortable all day." Roman began singing.
A little later, Patton finally joined in with his first lines.
"Jeremy my buddy how's it hangin'? Lunch was bangin'. Had my sushi, got my slushie and more." He smiled while singing. He enjoyed it.
Roman sat at the table and took off his backpack. He set it in front of him. "Boyf? What does that even mean?"
Patton took off his backpack and held it against Roman's. Boyf riends. He took out his phone and took a selfie.
"My mothers would be thrilled!" He chuckled.
Roman sighed and took his bag back. "Oh, hey, I wrote Christine a letter telling her how I feel!"
     Patton beamed. "That's progress!"
"Yeah, I tore it up and flushed it!" He snapped and pointed finger guns at him.
     "Ugh.."
Roman put his arms down in defeat and pouted. "It's still progress."
He's not half bad. Virgil thought. I'm never gonna be as good as that. I'm hopeless. He sighed.
The bell rang and he grabbed his bag. He slung it over his shoulder and began walking out the door.
"Uh, hey!" He heard someone call after him.
     "I-It's Virgil.."
Roman smiled. "Okay, Virgil. Do you wanna practice the script after school?"
"N-No thanks.. I-I have th-things to do.." and by that, he meant read out loud to better his stutter. It was a lot better when he was reading or something.
"Oh okay. Maybe text time?" Roman suggested.
     "M-Maybe.."
"Okay. See you tomorrow!" He waved goodbye and walled the opposite direction down the hall.

"What! He invited you over?!" Patton leaned towards Virgil, who was sitting in front of him in class. "And what did you say?"
     "I de-declined." He replied.
"Oh thank goodness." He heaved out a puff of breath. "Decline all his offers. He's a jock, and you're quite the opposite. And don't get all smart alec with me and say, opposites attract, because in this case, they will not! A no bueno!" Patton narrowed his eyes at him.
     "Okay, okay." Virgil said.
     "Okay class-"

"Roman, they do not think of you the same way I do. Or those girls." Logan said. "You can't just invite people to your home and expect them to think nothings going to happen."
"I'm not a bad guy, though!" Roman pouted.
"Well, because of the label people give tou, some think you are." Logan smiled a little. "I know you're not, though."
"But that's you! What about the cute kid in my theatre class?!" He complained. "He's going to think I'm a bad guy.."
"If you aren't out to anyone at school, then don't talk about being gay in front of everyone!" Logan scolded.
"Sorry.." He leaned back in his chair. "How do I make it so everyone has good opinions on me?"
"You're asking the wrong person." Logan picked up his book and opened it.
     "Logaaan!" Roman complained. "Help me!"
"How?" He looked up and made eye contact. "Do you see who you're asking?"
Roman sighed in defeat. "You're right.. I'll just go ask one of those girls."
"You're not gonna get the answer you're looking for from them. But I wish you luck." Logan said, a hint of sarcasm in the last line.

"I think you're perfect just the way you are!" A girl giggled.
     "Me too!" Another piped in.
"Aw, thank you!" Roman said as they walked away. "Wait." He frowned and sighed.
"Can I say it?" Logan asked.
     "Fine."
"Told you so." He smirked and pushed up his glasses.
"Whatever, I'll jus-" Roman got caught off guard as someone bumped into him.
"Ah, s-sorry!" He said before scurrying away. Roman watched him leave in admiration.
"That's the one you like?" Logan asked, raising a brow.
"That has a name. And it's Virgil." Roman corrected.
"Whatever. Bells about to ring." Logan shut Roman's locker before walking away.
"Hey! I still needed that open!" He complained.

Roman took a juice box from the refridgerator and stabbed it with the straw. He began drinking it as he walked upstairs. He sat in his room lit up by fairy lights. He grabbed his script and cleared his throat before practicing his lines.
"Roman! Dinner!" His mum said a couple hours later.
"Oh, mother, you would not believe it! But, I think I've fallen in love!" He said, plating his food and sitting down.
"Is that so?" She smiled. "Finally met your prince charming?"
"I have. I'm almost positive I have." He smiled warmly.
"Well, tell me about it after you finish your food." She said, sitting across from him.

"So," Roman began, rinsing his plate. "He's like an emo kind of person. Always dressed in dark clothes and wears eyeshadow under his eyes. He has faded purple hair and wears black studs along with painted black nails. And I think he has a creative side too. I'm almost positive he made his sweater. He also has pale skin, but I think he puts on an extra amount of foundation."
"Oh my." His mum said. "And you're sure this is your.. 'prince charming.'"
"Most certainly." Roman replied. "I know he seems a bit edgy, but he's really nice. A bit shy too, which I find kind of cute."
"Right, okay, well. You know I support you and your choices, just, don't rush things. Take the time to think about it." And with that she was off. Disappearing up the stairs.

"One week is all it took!?" Patton asked, slamming his hands on Virgil's desk and smiling widely.
"Yeah.." Virgil smiled. "I'm glad it's gone, in all honesty."
"Who wouldn't be happy woth their stutter being gone?" Patton bounced in his spot until the teacher walked in and told him to sit. "It's your turn to practice in theatre today, so good timing." He whispered from behind.
"The timing couldn't be better." (Note that stutters are not that easy to get rid of. Sorry)

"I've noticed your glances at Mr. Eryns." Patton said. "Stop, Virge. You know jocks aren't all that nice."
"Well, maybe you shouldn't judge people based on labels. Especially if you don't know them." Virgil looked up at his friend through his fringe. "I thought you'd be the one to say that."
Patton sat, speechless and guilty. He cleared his mind and picked up his sandwich. "We'll give him a try." He said after swallowing his food.
"If he can be friends with Logan Lofte, then he can be friends with us."

"Rich has introduced the Squip yesterday, but now, it's time for the Squip to make an entrance!" The theatre teacher said excitedly. "Virgil, Roman, Thomas and Valerie! Come on stage!"
The four read their lines. Then, after the short 49 seconds, three went off stage and it was just Virgil and Roman on stage singing Be More Chill part 1.
"So don't freak out. And don't resist." Virgil sang.
Roman continued with his lines. "How are you with math homework?" He asked.
"I'm a super computer, Jeremy, I'm made of math." Virgil replied, staring intently in Roman's eyes.
Valerie and Brittney came on stage to play the roles of Brooke and Chloe.

"Good job today guys!" The theatre teacher clapped and dismissed the class.
     "Hey, Virgil!" Roman called.
Patton looked at his friend and smiled, nodding.
"Uhm.. h-hey Roman.." he gulped, internally cursing himself for stuttering.
"Wanna go somewhere after school? Maybe the park or something?" He asked, smiling.
"Oh uhm.. yeah, sure." He looked at the ground between them. "I-I'll meet you at the entrance."
"Really?" Roman asked, beaming. "Okay! See you then!" He walked past them and down the hall.
"Virge, are you sure?" Patton asked.
"It'll be fine, Pat. Don't worry." Virgil smiled. "Let's go to science." He said, walking down the hall.

"Hey!" Roman said, smiling as he approached the slouching individual.
"Hey." Virgil replied. They both began walking away from the school and towards the public park.
"So, what are your hobbies?" Roman asked.
"Listening to music and being depressed."
"Oh come on, don't be like that!" Roman chuckled a little. "So you enjoy musicals, I take it?"
Virgil shrugged. "I mean, it's not all I listen to. But I enjoy Be More Chill and Heathers quite a bit.. sometimes I'll listen to Dear Evan Hansen.." he shoved his hands in his sweayer pockets.
"I enjoy all those including Hamilton and Avenue Q." Roman smiled. "Speaking of Avenue Q, do you mind sharing your sexual preference."
"Well, I'm bisexual, or so I thought. I think I'm heading more to the gay side." Suddenly Virgil got flustered. "S-Sorry if it ma-makes you uncomfortable! I-I can go-go home!"
Roman laughed. "No no, please don't go." He hitched his backpack higher onto his back. "I've never told anyone this except my mum and my friend, Logan."
     Virgil glanced at Roman.
"I'm gay." He chuckled. "I know it's kind of weird to think about since all those always come up to me." He looked at Virgil who was staring at him, his face redder than ever. "Oh god  I'm sorry! Are you alright?!" He panicked.
Virgil cleared his thoughts and sat on the park swings. "You're fine, don't worry." He smiled, earning a blush from Roman.

They spent the rest of that day talking in the park. They enjoyed each other's company.
"We need to hang out more." Virgil said, chuckling.
"Right? Logan and I will sit with you from now on. Maybe it'll get those girls to stop sitting so close to us." Roman laughed.
"They better stop of I'm gonna get jealous." Virgil said, chuckling more.
Roman thought for a second about what he just heard. He blushed, smiling. "Well, I'll be sure to make them know I belong to someone." He held the chains on the swing and looked at the sun setting.
Virgil stared at him. Examining his perfect features. He smiled and took Roman's hand, pulling it away from the chain and into his hand.
"I, too, will let the non-existent girls that huddle around me know that I already have someone." He chuckled.
Roman smiled and sighed out of his nose. He noticed his phone buzzing in his pocket. He took his hand back and brought it out. His mum was calling. He answered.
"Okay." Roman said before hanging up. He stood from the swing and stretched. "Learning stuff about you for hours was fun. But I gotta get home. I'll see you tomorrow, Virgil." He smiled and hugged the boy, who had just stood up.
"It is getting pretty late." Virgil replied. "C'mon." He grabbed hold of Roman's hand and they began walking.
"Does this mean we're dating?" Roman asked.
     "Mmm..no." Virgil said. "Not yet."

Someone sat on the seat next to Virgil, startling him. He looked over and smiled at Roman.
Logan sat next to Patton, sighing and pushing up his glasses. "Finally away from those girls."
"Whoa. I've never seen you up close like this." Patton said in awe.
Logan leaned a little away from him. "Is he always like this?"
     "Yes." Virgil replied plainly.
Logan pushed the bubbly boy back and sat up straight. He looked at Patton through the corner of him and blushed. Both Roman and Virgil smirking at him.
"What?" Logan asked. "Is there something on my face?"
"Oh no! Get it off, it'll ruin your perfect face!" Patton said, turning Logan's head towards him to find the thing that dared mess with his face.
Roman and Virgil chuckled as Logan's fsce heated up.
Virgil took Roman's hand under the table.
"U-Uhm.. excuse me, Roman.. b-but will you please go out with me!" A girl asked.
"Sorry, but I already belong to someone." He held up his and Virgil's hands above the table for proof.
Virgil's face heated up as the girl stared at their hands. He pulled his hand away and grabbed his sandwich to shove in his mouth, facing towards the wall.
Roman shrugged to the girl. "Sorry." He said anf she ran away.
     "You're dating, already?" Logan asked.
"What? No. I told him to wait. For now I'm just an excuse to get those girls off him." Virgil said.
"Okay, not an excuse." They all stared at him. "Okay maybe an excuse. But! There will be a real meaning behind this excuse soon!" Roman said. "So, when can we start dating?"
"One month." Virgil replied, staring at his sandwich.
     "A month?!" Roman complained.
     "Deal with it."

One week later

"What happened to one month?" Logan asked, looking at the two holding hands in public.
"Someone was being too pushy." Virgil lied, blushing.
"He begged me to start dating him before a month because he loved me too much." Roman said, truthfully.
     Logan stared at them.

     Logan clapped in the audience.
"C-c-c-c'mon c-c-c-c'mon, go go!" Roman began singing on stage.

At the end of the play, Roman kissed Dahlia, having been scripted.
The curtains came to a close and everyone cheered. Roman wiped his forehead. Just then Virgil jumped on him and kissed him.
"No more kissing other people." He said.
Roman held him up as Virgil had his legs wrapped around his waist and his hands on the back of his neck.
     "It was for the pla-"
"No more." He stared into Roman's eyes.
     "Okay." He chuckled.

Patton came up behind Logan as he waited for them to be done undressing from their costumes. He tackled the nerd.
"What the hell?!" Logan caught his balance on the wall. "Patton, get off me." He said, the other on his back.
He kissed the nape of his neck. "No."
Logan's face heated up and he collapsed to the ground.

Hope you enjoyed the extra long chapter!
It's currently 5:30am. I have not slept in 26 hours, but that's okay.
I've been writing new chapters to my Phanfiction, two chapters, both 3,000 - 4,000 words. Normally I write 1,000 to 2,000 words, but I want to start writing more.
And obviously, that's gonna take longer. Because I lose my track of thought in the middle of writing. Idk why.

But anyways. Hope you really did enjoy the extra 4,320 worded chapter:)
