Mermaid AU
The Webtoon 'A Matter of Life and Death' finally updated. And it was a mermaid au, so I wanted to do one.
"Please, your Majesty! Your too drunk, stop drinking!" Patton took the bottle away.
"Oh please," Roman said. "I'm not that drunk!"
"Please watch out for the railing, Your Majesty. I fear your going to tip over the side."
Roman waved his hand dismissively. "Oh please *hic* I'm fi-" He backed up and, as Patton said, went over the edge.
He passed out from the force of hitting tge water. All he remenbered was seeing Patton's face leaning over the edge before it all went black.
"Please wake up! I don't want to deal with yet another dead one! I always get rumours that I'm the one that kills them. They don't understand the fact that people can die from the force of the water. For bloody's sake! Humans are different from us!" Roman heard a British accent as his eyes slowly started to open. "You awake?" He heard.
He sat up and held his throbbing head. "Where am I?"
"Hell, I know. I just dragged you to the nearest beach front. You might have a lot of sand on your back." He opened his eyes all the way and saw the British man next to him.
"Ah, thanks. Uh, by the way, where is your boat?" Roman asked, looking around and realising there was no transport around. "How did you get me on shore? Don't tell me you dragged me here!"
"Chill out, jesus christ. Look at my lower body dumbass. Though your lighter in water, dragging you on shore was difficult. I thought you had weight on you. Just your muscles." He looked at Roman staring down at his tail in awe.
"So you're like.. a mermaid!" He said excitedly.
"Merman to be exact." The half fish man moved his tail in the sand. "What's your name?"
"Ah, King Roman. And yours?"
"Virgil. Now, I am no king, so don't think highly of me." He began moving towards the water. "I'll get going then. Bye!" And with that he swam off.
"Your majesty!" Patton called. "Where on earth have you been?! You had us worried sick!" He threw a rope over the side of the ship. "You're not injured are you?"
Roman stood up and wiped himself down. "No, I am fine." He looked towards the sea and sighed. "C'mon."
Virgil sat at the bottom of the ocean and thought.
A human that actually took interest of me? If they don't die, they usually freak out and run off, usually found dead later on.
He flinched at a merman, Logan, swimming up to him. "Virgil, will you go and deal with that damn human calling your name?" He grunted.
"Huh?" Virgil began swimming towards the surface of the water. He looked around and saw the man he had saved the other day, sitting on a rock and calling his name. He groaned and swam back down.
"Virgi-" Logan began.
"He'll lose his voice soon." He interrupted.
"VIRGIL!" He heard the man call the nxt day.
"You're kidding me.." he looked up and saw the rock he was perched on, yelling into the sea for the merman. "He doesn't give up, does he?"
"VIRGIL-"
"What?!" He popped up at the surface in front of him.
Roman smiled and leaned down. "Virgil! It's you!"
"What do you want?"
"I wanted to see you again!" He exclaimed, getting closer.
"You're too clos-" Just then, as Virgil was about to push him back, he fell in.
Roman swam to the top, going towards the rock. "Sorry."
Virgil rose to the surface after being a floatie for him to land on. "I'm leaving."
"N-No! Wait!" He called.
"What do you want?" He turned around and glared at the king.
"Uhm.. thank you for saving me two days ago.." he smiled.
"Okay, bye now." He swam under the water and left.
"Finally." Logan said.
"Your Majesty! Where in world do you keep getting alcohol?!" Patton snatched it away. "You are going to fall overboard again!"
Roman smiled. "Good, then I can *hic* meet the merman again." He stood.
"Merman? Your Majesty you're drunk! Stop saying such absurd things and lie down!" Patton grabbed his arm.
Roman pulled it away and dived over the edge.
"YOUR MAJESTY!" Patton sighed. "You're kidding me.."
"Virgil, there is another overboard man. And it's a little aquintance of yours." Logan said, his eye twitching.
"It's not.. oh my god. That little shit." He got up and swam towards the surface. He grabbed Roman, who wasn't unconcious this time, and swam towards the shore. "God, I hate you."
"Virgil~!" He hiccuped as he was being dragged onto the shore.
"A little help would be nice!" He said, struggling to pull him.
Roman stood up and walked a little ways before collapsing in the sand.
"What the hell is that smell?!" Virgil complained. "Is that alcohol?! Oh god, you're drunk, aren't you?" He groaned and sat next to him. "Sea water isn't good for you, so I don't have anything to sober you up with." He looked around. "You like coconuts? Forget I asked, you're having one anyways." He found one on the ground and crawled over to it.
Roman turned and laid on his stomach, putting his chin on his hands and his feet in the air. "Your scales are so pretty." He said, swinging his legs.
Virgil blushed and froze. "Shut up, you're drunk." He grabbed the coconut and turned around to find Roman standing above him. "Break this open and drink it." He said, holding up the coconut.
Roman grabbed it and tossed it aside. He bent down and grabbed Virgil's chin.
"Get away from me, your breath reeks of alcohol!" He tried pushing him away, but he was all muscle and Virgil was all bone.
"You're pretty." Roman hiccuped and smiled at the merman's red face.
"G-Get off! You drunk bastard!" He froze when he felt Roman's breath on his lips.
He moved his hand down Virgil's body and felt his scales. "Oh wow, *hic* so smoothe." He smiled.
His whole face became red. "D-don't touch me." He avoided eye contact, until shock came over him as a pair of lips fell onto his.
Roman pulled away and looked into the other's purple eyes. He chuckled and then started laughing, falling backwards.
"Wh-What's wrong?! Are you okay?" Virgil moved to his side. A pair of arms wrapped around his neck and pulled him down. "Ah! L-let go!" He stuttered, trying to break free from his grasp.
"I can't keep a relationship with you." Roman said. Tears started forming in his eyes. "I won't be able to stay with you.." his grip loosened. He put his hands on his face and began crying. "I have to leave.."
"R-Roman.." Virgil said.
Roman sat up and began wiping his tears. "Give me the coconut.."
Virgil looked around and grabbed a fresh one close to him. "Here.. I can break it open if you want." He smashed it against the tree next to him several times until it broke open. "Here."
Roman took it and began drinking the coconut milk inside. He finished and wiped his mouth, tossing it away. He glanced at Virgil, who looked at him with worry.
"Do you mind helping me get back?" Roman asked.
Virgil's eyes widened. "Oh, uhm, sure.." he cleared his throat and looked down. "Are you sure you're okay?"
He sighed. "I'm still a bit drunk, but I think I'll be oka-" he was cut off by two arms on either side of him and lips on his. He smiled a little, sadly, putting a hand in his hair and the other holding him up. He pulled his head back with his hair. "Enough." He said.
Virgil moved away once his grip loosened. He sat next to him, his tail bent to the side, guiltily. "Sorry.."
"Don't apologize. I just.. don't want to get more attatched to you than I already am." He stood up and looked down. He bent down, smiling, and picked up the half fish bridally. "Let's go."
"I'll miss you." Virgil said.
"Me too. Goodbye Virgil." Roman smiled and began climbing up the rope ladder.
"Your Majesty! For tge last time! No more drinking onboard! And who is that man? Does he need help? We can't just leave him in the ocean!" Patton started complaining.
"He's fine. Now shut your mouth before I shut it for you. Let's go."
1 year later
"Roman, I swear to god. If you begin drinking." Patton scolded.
Remy snatched the beer away and began downing it. "Now you can't have any."
"I don't need to be drunk to go overboard y'know." Roman chuckled. "I'll see you guys later. Adios!" He waved and ran for the edge, jumping off and canon balling into the waters. "VIRGIIIIL!" He called.
Virgil and Logan looked up at the surface. Then at each other. But only one of them was smiling.
"Sorry Logan! I'm leaving!" He smiled wide and swam to the top. "ROMAN!" He called, surfacing the water.
They found each other and the merman swam them both towards shore. They sat at the edge of the shore and water, kissing.
"And here I thought I'd never see you again, Your Majesty." Virgil hugged him.
"I knew I'd see you again. We sail these waters every year." He messed with his soaking hair. "Your scales seem shinier. And more iridescent than last time." He looked down at his tail and touched it.
"Th-thanks." Virgil replied, blushing. He kissed the king again as a wave splashed them both.
"I really need to stop being fully clothed everytime I jump in." Roman complained.
"And you aren't even drunk this time!" Virgil laughed.
