Party (Prince x Anxiety)

Requested. I am so sorry this has taken me so long.

A party. Anxiety had never liked parties, and never really wanted to go to one, but Thomas was going and pretty much decided for all of them.

What did people even do at parties? He had no idea, but, he did know that he could invite someone as a date. He wasn't sure how that worked either, or if he would even ask anyone.

He did have someone he wanted to ask, though. Of course, he was already going, but perhaps things would go differently if Anxiety asked Roman to go as his date. He had thought about it a lot, had imagined a scenario where Roman accepted and they hung out together all night, doing whatever people did at parties. Dancing? He wasn't very good at that, so he hoped not.

Most of the scenarios he imagined tended to involve him being rejected, though. He knew that a lot of the things he came up with likely wouldn't happen, and he knew he was over exaggerating, but the thought of asking him really was terrifying. He also knew that there was also the slightest chance that Roman would agree. He really wanted to take the chance, especially if that may be the outcome, but was still very nervous about it.

He had tried everything he could think of to be more confident in asking. He had practiced doing so in front of the mirror, which was very embarrassing. He had also asked for advice on asking, although he refused to say who exactly it was he wanted to ask(While Patton always kept their best interest in mind he also was not the best at keeping secrets). He had tried many more things, none of which helped to make him any less nervous.

After a while of trying to figure out ways to ask, Anxiety decided that if he waited too long to do it perfectly, it would never happen. It was best to stumble through his question rather than never ask it, because he was so scared of messing up. So, when he saw Roman later that day, he tried his best to get his question out.

He stumbled over his words so much he couldn't be understood, and talked so slowly, delaying asking, that he never completely got the question out anyways. Roman just stood there patiently and listened to his indecipherable babbling, curious as to why he seemed so nervous and awkward. After a while of avoiding the question completely, Anxiety paused in the middle of his sentence and sighed.

"Never mind." He shook his head, and darted out of the room before Roman could even realize he had stopped talking.

Later on that day, after Anxiety had beat himself up for how badly his attempt had gone, he decided to try again. This time, he would be straight to the point, and just ask the question as soon as he opened his mouth. He wouldn't delay it, and then it could all just be over. Either Roman would completely rip his heart out, or he would accept and they could both be happy at the party together.

He approached Roman for the second time that day, greeting him as usual and apologizing for earlier. This time when he went to speak he managed to ask his question.

The only problem was, he spoke so fast Roman hadn't been able to catch it.

"Could you say that again?" He asked. By now Anxiety's heart was racing so fast he would be surprised if Roman couldn't hear it. He tried his best to ask again, taking a deep breath to calm himself down.

"Would you be my date to the party?" He mumbled finally, staring at the ground. He took a nervous glance up at the other. Roman seemed confused.

"I'm sorry, Anxiety." He started, and Anxiety flinched. He was being rejected, of course

"I still couldn't understand you. You're speaking too quietly." Oh. Anxiety paused for a moment. He shouldn't have jumped to a conclusion, of course, but Roman's response had terrified him, in that second that he believed he was being rejected and he realized he had been completely unprepared for what to say if that had happened. He had actually been feeling hopeful, and now he was doubting himself.

"I'm sorry," he sighed. "I have to go again."

He started to walk off, but was stopped as Roman grabbed a hold of his arm. "Anxiety, wait. You clearly have something you need to say, why do you keep running off?"

Anxiety jumped, startled at being grabbed, and even more startled after Roman's question. He couldn't answer him honestly, couldn't really answer him at all. He didn't know what to say, he was too scared.

Instead he jerked his arm away, apologized again, and retreated back into his room.

After that, Anxiety hadn't tried again. He had given up any hope he had that things would go well, and decided that he already knew the party would be a disaster for him.

The time had come, and Anxiety knew he just needed to face it. He assumed he would just sit out in the corner, by himself to get lost in thought. He hoped he wouldn't get too scared and somehow embarrass himself.

Once they had gotten there, however, Anxiety was surprised as Roman walked up to him and started up a conversation. They had talked for a while, when Anxiety asked why Roman wasn't enjoying himself doing other things.

"I wanted to make sure you had fun as well." He shrugged. "I know this isn't something you would usually enjoy."

"You don't have to do that..." Anxiety looked at the ground, nervously. He was glad Roman had though of him, though.

"I also just... wanted to spend some time with you." The other admitted, laughing awkwardly and glancing around the room. Anxiety wasn't sure what to say in reply to that, and was glad when Roman decided to change the subject to talk about something else. Still, he couldn't fight off the smile on his face knowing that Roman wanted to talk to him

Later on that night, Roman had convinced Anxiety to dance with him when a song came on. It took a minute, but Anxiety decided that if it made Roman happy he would definitely try.

So here they were now, standing close and arms wrapped around each other, moving slowly with the music. Anxiety kept telling Roman he wasn't good at it, but the other insisted that it didn't matter.

"As long as you're having fun, who cares if you're dancing well or not? Don't worry about what others might think." He smiled, and Anxiety actually listened to what he said, ignoring all the other people around them to focus on Roman. He smiled back at Roman.

"So... You definitely don't have to answer if you don't want to," Roman started, smile faltering as he looked at Anxiety. "But I am very curious. What were you going to say to me before?"

Anxiety's face burned, and he looked down at the ground, considering whether or not to tell him. He still felt hopeful that Roman would return his feelings, but he also wasn't sure.

"It's... Well, you have to swear you won't just.. Laugh in my face. It is... embarrassing." He muttered, still looking at the floor.

"Of course I won't." Roman smiled at him, putting his hand under Anxiety's chin to get him to look up. Both of their faces were red.

"Well I," He started, looking for the right words to say. "I was... Hoping that you might like to... Be my date? So-sorry, I-"

"What are you sorry for?" Roman cut him off, frowning. "There's nothing wrong with that. In fact... I was hopeful that was what you wanted to say." He laughed, looking around the room. His blush was getting worse every word he spoke.

"Really?" Anxiety gaped. "So you... You like me back?"

"Well, yes." Roman nodded, finally looking back at the other. "I thought this was... obvious."

"Oh." Anxiety mumbled, staring back at Roman awkwardly. After a while the two of them smiled widely at each other, still blushing darkly. Anxiety moved slightly closer to Roman, taking a deep breath before asking. "Can I... kiss you?"

Roman nodded, moving closer to him as well. Anxiety inched forward the rest of the way, until their lips were pressed together, and everything around them was completely forgotten. They held each other close, smiling as they pulled apart. They both stared at each other, letting out awkward, happy giggles.

Anxiety really wasn't sure what he had been so worried about. Parties weren't all bad.

Aaahhhhhh I'm so sorry this has taken me forever I've just had a ton I've been doing and-ahhh I hope this was good.

On another note, seeing as I did this on Mother's Day I would just like to say that to anyone who doesn't have a dad/doesn't have a very great dad, I shall be your dad lol. Okay no but seriously I hope you're all doing well and that you know how much I care that you're doing well. Please remember to take care of yourselves, and remember that while things might not be the best I'm sure you're doing the best you can and I know you can get through today.

I love all of you.

I hope that you enjoyed this. *alien throws ring pop from a UFO* (thanks XxfierysoulsxX) Bye!-Bob
