Call me Roman (Prince x Anxiety)

He had never really noticed before, had never paid too much attention, but Roman had noticed that even as Logan and Morality had started using his real name more often, Anxiety never did. He wasn't sure why this bothered him, it was silly, but it did. When it came to anyone else calling him Prince, he didn't think twice about it, but that was all Anxiety ever called him.

He found himself wanting to hear Anxiety say his name, as strange as that sounded. So, he started initiating conversations with said person more often. Hoped that maybe, after talking to each other long enough, he may use Roman's real name.

"Good morning, Anxiety." Roman greeted the male, a smile on his face as he entered the kitchen.

"Uh.. morning?" Anxiety stared back, giving an awkward, confused wave. "You seem pretty chipper, Princey. You're.. actually acknowledging me." Roman winced at the statement.

"Apologies, Anxiety. I should greet you more often." Roman smiled again at him, and Anxiety just shrugged.

"Alright. Whatever you say, Princey." Anxiety grabbed what he came in there for, and walked past the prince, brushing against him as he left. Roman looked at his shoulder, the one he had touched, and felt something he was unsure how to describe. He ignored it, focusing instead on talking with Anxiety more.

It had been a few weeks of Roman slowly becoming more acquainted with Anxiety. The two had had more conversations since that awkward encounter in the kitchen, some of which actually lasted hours. The more time Roman spent with the other, the less annoying he found him and the more interesting he seemed. Roman found himself looking forward to talking to him often, and wanting to know even more. Despite the two growing significantly closer, Roman still had not heard Anxiety say his real name a single time.

Anxiety was in the middle of saying something to him, calling him 'Princey' once more, even Roman cut him off.

"Please Anxiety, I think we've become pretty close recently. You don't have to call me Princey anymore, just call me Roman." He smiled, sure that now he would be able to hear Anxiety call him by his name.

"Um.. okay?" Anxiety shrugged, and went right back to what he was saying, leaving Roman disappointed.

More time had passed since then; enough time for Roman to finally discover what his emotions towards Anxiety truly were. He supposed he should have realized sooner, not that that mattered now. All he was worried about now was if those feelings were returned.

Also the fact that despite it being so long since they had started talking, Anxiety still never once called Roman by his name.

It was becoming increasingly annoying, and it made Prince begin to wonder. If Anxiety never even called Roman by his name, maybe he just didn't like him-as a friend or otherwise. He was worried, and really hoped he was incorrect.

He decided the only thing he could really do about it was confront Anxiety. So that is exactly what he set out to do that afternoon, pulling himself out of his thoughts and standing to leave his room. He searched around for Anxiety, and found him pretty quickly, in his room as usual. He had knocked on the door, and heard shuffling inside before it opened.

"Yeah, Princey?" Anxiety questioned, leaning against the doorway and crossing his arms.

"May I come in?" Roman asked. "I'd like to talk." He frowned slightly, and Anxiety bit his lip. Slowly, he stepped aside and allowed the royal inside, the both of them taking a seat.

They sat in silence at first, and then. "Do you like me, Anxiety?" Roman blurted. His cheeks burned, and he quickly tried to recover. "I mean.. Would you consider us close?" He rephrased, glancing away from Anxiety, who looked at him in confused concern.

"Obviously. Why else would I have even answered the door for you?" Anxiety smiled a bit. "You consider us close, right?"

Prince nodded quickly. He still looked nervous and embarrassed. "Um.. then why do you never.." He trailed off, frowning deeper and cheeks growing even warmer. "Why don't you ever use my real name?" He finally managed, and Anxiety stared at him for a moment.

"That's what this is about? Princey-er.. sorry, just cause I call you Princey doesn't mean we're not close. Don't close friends usually use nicknames? I don't understand why it bothers you so much... but, if it bugs you I guess I'll call you your name from now on." Anxiety shrugged, and Roman managed a smile.

"There's.. another thing I was hoping to discuss.." Roman went back to staring at his hands, avoiding Anxiety's eyes carefully.

"Shoot."

"Well.." Roman took a deep breath. "I was wondering.. you say we are close, and... I was wondering if, maybe, you might.. possibly, like me.. as more than a friend..?" He stumbled over his words awkwardly, unsure as to why he was so nervous. He was usually the confident and calm one, but this boy made him so nervous he could hardly get a word out. "B-because, well, I do and-well, I-"

Roman stammered, searching for the right words to say, when Anxiety held up a hand to silence him.

"You really.. do?" Anxiety questioned, caught off guard. "Like me that way, I mean.."

All Roman could manage was a nod.

"Well, if you were really paying attention you should have noticed all the flirting I was doing with you while we talked." Anxiety laughed rather awkwardly, and Roman stared at him in confusion.

"You've been flirting with me without me noticing?" He questioned.

"For a while now." Anxiety shrugged.

"You made me worried for nothing! This whole time you wouldn't say my name and I thought you hated me or something, how did I not notice the flirting!" Roman exclaimed, exasperated.

"Well I didn't make you worried, you did that all on your own, Roman." Anxiety laughed again, and Roman froze, a grin forming on his face.

"That's the first time you've ever said my name." He felt his face burn even brighter than before.

"Yeah, I think it was." Anxiety blinked, and noticed the blush dusting Roman's cheeks. "I should say it more often if it'll make you blush. Now that, is adorable." He laughed, and Roman hid his face.

"Nothing could be nearly as adorable as you, Anx." He smiled through his hands. Anxiety shook his head, taking a hold of his hands and pulling them away from him face. He gave a small grin back to Roman, who grinned even wider and leaned forward so their foreheads were touching.

He stayed that way for a moment, simply gazing into the other's eyes with a still growing grin. "You're adorable." He whispered, breathless at the sight of Anxiety.

"Shut up and kiss me already, will you?" He mumbled back, and Roman chuckled.

"Will do." He finally moved to bring their lips together, hands still held together against their chests as they stood close to each other.

"I love you." Roman whispered as he pulled back, foreheads still touching.

"Love you too, Roman." Anxiety whispered back.
