Prinxiety

Roman was alone in his room, dozing off. He was supposed to meet his tutor later on, actually, in five minutes...and the guy was ten minutes away. He rushed out, panting as he ran. He kept checking the time, seeing it tick closer and closer.

He burst into the library, panting hard. Roman's eyes were wide as he scanned the place, landing on Logan Barry. He walked over. "Hey, sorry I'm late, Lo.*

Logan glanced up, confused. "Roman? Your session doesn't start for..." he looked at his watch. "Five minutes?"

Roman's eyes widened slightly as he checked his phone. "Five...minutes..." he mumbled, frowning. "Huh..I guess I misread the time." He sat across from Logan, setting his books down carefully.

This was one of many occurrences like this. Roman would be late, he'd show up, and turns out the was early. So, like any logical thinking would lead him, obviously he could control time!

"No!" Virgil said, laughing. "Roman, I'm sorry, but I highly doubt that you can control time, Roman." The two friends were walking to the park after school.

Virgil Dark. Nonbeliever in anything mystical like that, he prefers what he can see and feel. Anything else gets his anxiety going straight through the roof. He's short, sassy, and emo. With his dark hair and eyes, how could Roman not fall in love with his childhood friend? He loved the way Virgil dressed, how he acted. Everything about Virgil was just amazing to Roman.

He snapped out of his daze when Virgil clapped in front of his face, "Yo, Princey, what're you daydreaming about?"

Roman shook his head. "I'm trying to think of how to make you believe me, Emo!" he chuckled softly. "How can I...?"

He looked next to him, seeing Virgil not there. Roman panicked slightly, glancing around. He looked towards the street to his left, seeing Virgil having tripped. He went to help him up and out of the corner of his eye saw a bus driving towards them. Out of instinct, Roman jumped back. Virgil didn't move in time.

The rest of that day was filled with sobs and cries, being in the hospital then going home. Seeing your best friend, your only true friend, underneath that white sheet of loss doesn't help anything when grief consumes you.

Roman sat up from his spot on the bed, thinking. "I can...rewind time," he said tiredly before his eyes widened. "I can rewind time!"

Sure he'd never done it purposefully before, but Roman had to try! He concentrated, and when Roman opened his eyes, he smiled. It was the morning again, and he had three new texts from Virgil. Exactly how he had that morning.

Most of the day went normal, the exact same as before. Until Roman tried convincing Virgil about him reversing time. "Virgil, I'm telling you! I reversed time today because you died!" They were walking home again, but this time, Virgil was on the inside of the sidewalk. Roman didn't want him falling in the street again.

"Princey, I really don't believe you," Virgil chuckled a little. He was walking, smiling, and zoning out a bit as Roman kept talking. He looked around, seeing the park not far off. "Race ya, Ro!"

Virgil sprinted off, running to the park. Roman shook his head, laughing. He checked both ways, running across the street. Virgil was already there, laughing. He had started climbing the tree in the park, laughing as he got higher and higher.

Roman watched, smiling. He crossed his arms, eyes trained on Virgil, then filling with worry. Virgil's hoodie caught, making him slip. And fall. Hitting branches on the way down, falling on the ground. Unconscious. Bleeding. Not breathing.

He panicked, concentrating again. And Roman sat up, panting and shaking. He checked his phone, smiling as he did. Three messages from Virgil. Roman sighed in relief, knowing he could protect Virgil today.

Instead of going to the park, Roman took Virgil to a cafe after school. He kept telling Virgil about reversing time, but he couldn't seem to do it right then.

They stayed there until after dark, until it was just them and a cashier. The two started leaving, going to Roman's house. On the way though...nothing good happened. Roman got grabbed, as did Virgil. Roman ripped free, right as the man holding Virgil plunged a knife into his stomach and they both ran.

Roman collapsed next to his friend, sobbing. He quickly restarted the day, waking up and seeing the three same texts.

This went on for what would've been months if they weren't all the same day. Every day, after a while, Roman would find ways to get Virgil to believe him. He'd explain and Virgil would listen.

After a while, things started to change. The universe hated that Roman was doing this. One time, after what seemed like years, the clouds were grey as he awoke. He frowned, but saw the same three texts from Virgil.

He thought this would be just the same day again, just with some bad weather. Roman was with Virgil at his house, watching the news. Virgil was scared, there was a high chance of a devastating tornado. Sirens were going off and Roman's parents weren't home. He was shaking, sitting in Roman's arms. "W-We're gonna be ok, right?" he asked, looking at Roman with wide eyes.

Roman bit his lip, sighing. "I don't know," he admitted. "This hasn't happened before."

Virgil sighed softly. "Well...if you've done this before...maybe....Roman the universe doesn't want me," he said bluntly. "If you've done this day after day after day after day...maybe it's just-"

"No!" Roman said, already tearing up. "N-No, I can't...I can't lose you!" He yelled, making VIrgil flinch. "Please, Virgil...I love you and I have for a long time....please."

The smaller boy sighed softly. "Roman...kiss me," he said, looking him in the eyes. "Kiss me...restart the day and let me go. Otherwise...is it worth it to save me and let everyone else die?" Virgil's eyes traced Roman's face.

Roman sighed softly, looking down. "I can't....Virgil please..." he would've said more, but lips met his, causing Roman to be silent.

The kiss broke after a minute and Virgil met his eyes. "Please Roman...please."

The time changer was silently crying. He kissed Virgil one more time, closing his eyes. Then Roman woke up. He saw the texts, feeling horrible. Today was going to be the most devastating yet.

The weather was clear, opposing Roman's cloudy head. He couldn't focus, making Virgil worry. Once the time came...it was the same as the first day. Virgil tripping. The bus. Roman jumping out of the way. The sirens, lights, the hospital.

Roman hated what he did. But it was what Virgil wanted. So...he pretended to be happy. The one thing he always focused on when he missed Virgil was the kiss. The saft lips Virgil had.

At Virgil's funeral, Roman stood next to the cactus. He looked down at Virgil, a small tear going down his cheek. It fell onto Virgil's head and Roman leaned down, kissing his forehead. "I love you, Virgil..."
