And yes, I know that in Ancient Rome technically it wasn't good to be gay. I don't care.

Roman was bolting through the village, panting hard. He was panicky, not wanting to believe what he'd heard. He threw open the door to their cottage, "REMUS!" He ran past their family and to their shared room.
There he was, Remus, Roman's twin. He was laying in a pool of his own sweat, eyes barely open and breathing shallow. Not how a 16 year old should look. He'd been diagnosed around a month ago with an incurable disease for the time, but he had been given three months at least.
Now though...there was a doctor standing over him, and their dad next to the bed, holding their weeping mother. Roman carefully walked over, and the doctor stepped out of the way. He grabbed his twin's hand, barely biting back tears as he saw how pale he was.
"R-Rem," he whispered, tears streaming down his cheeks. "Remus, please answer me..."
Remus slowly opened his eyes, giving his brother a weary but teasing smile. "Hey, Roro," he said weakly. He gently squeezed Roman's hand, barely able to. Remus let out a soft chuckle. "The gods say it's time for me-"
"No," Roman said sharply, squeezing his eyes shut tightly. "N-No, you can't, Remus, please! Not after everything we've been through together, no!" He was full on sobbing now, clutching his brother's hand tight.
"Roman," Remus whispered softly. "Roro, listen. We can see each other in the underworld. But right now..." he had to pause, take a breath. Remus's eyes were slipping shut. "Right now...just remember me."
Remus took one last breath, chest and body going still. His hand went slick, and it would've slipped out of Roman's hand if he didn't have a death grip on it.
Roman had to be forced away, picked up, thrashing in his dad's arms. "No! He's not gone! Put me down!"
His dad pulled Roman out of the room, setting him in the main room of the cottage. "Roman," he said, holding his son's arms. "Son, he's gone. Remus is gone, now man up, and deal with it!"
The teen stayed silent, simply nodding. Roman always knew that his father preferred him over Remus, but he never ever showed it.
That night, Roman couldn't sleep. He tossed and turned, staring at Remus's empty bed. He closed his eyes, more tears slipping.
"Roman."
His eyes flew open, staring at an empty room. Roman closed them again until he heard his name called after another few minutes. This time, when his eyes opened, he spotted a figure on his brother's bed.
Roman let out a small scream, until the figure ran over and forced his mouth shut as best as he could. Except, his hand went right through Roman. He pulled it back, looking at it.
The teen watched as the figure got to be more visible, more corporeal. Roman's eyes went completely wide. "Re...Remus?" he asked, not believing it to be true.
Remus nodded. "Roman, it's me," he whispered. "I don't know how...but it's me." He grinned his normal cockeyed grin at his brother.
They talked all through the night, and into the next day.
The ghost twin never left, and nobody else could see him. Remus and Roman had fun with this, pulling pranks on all the village people.
One day, after a few months, they were sitting in an isolated part just outside the village. Roman and Remus were talking, messing around. Then, Roman just paused. He was staring just past where his brother was. "Woah..."
Remus turned around, eyes going wide as he smiled. "Wow...he's..."
"Godlike," the two said together, looking at one another. They both grinned, and Remus is urging Roman to go talk to him.
He does, and the two actually hit it off. He had said his name was Virgil, that he's just moved there from Athens, in Greece. He was a year younger than Roman, and nothing like him, but Roman found that even more endearing.
Remus did end up getting jealous, of course, but he did his best to not to. Not until Roman started spending more and more time with Virgil, and less with him. Soon, Remus was just left to wander around the village.
Any time that the two were home together, it was even worse. Their father was so proud of Roman for being an excellent warrior, talking about how Remus would've never been that good, he would've been too weak.
Roman apologised to him every night, but honestly couldn't do much more. They had decided against telling anyone Remus was there as a ghost.
Remus's hatred and loathing for his brother only grew with every comment, with every stare at Virgil. He knew it was time to get back at him for this, for being the favored brother.
The ghost twin was wandering around the village, looking for a body to inhabit. Someone his father would love, as well as Virgil. He finally found the perfect person.
Logan, moved there from Troy. He was a warrior, a scholar. Everything Remus wanted to be all wrapped up in one, and even his looks were perfect. He was tall, built, but had an aura of sophistication. He was known well around the village.
Remus took his chance, willing himself to take over Logan's body fully. He had control now. He smirked to himself, checking it out.
The first thing he did was go to his and Roman's dad, winning his favor. With Logan being a skilled warrior, and brute strength being what his dad valued most, he easily won him. Their dad spent more time training "Logan" than he did with Roman.
Roman was honestly confused by the sudden take over from Logan, but he didn't mind. He didn't want to be a warrior, but an actor. Besides, Roman didn't like his dad with how much he bad mouthed Remus. Who...Roman realized he hadn't seen in weeks.
He didn't worry much, nor did he bother with Logan at all. Not until the warrior scholar started hanging with his Virgil. He caught them one day, in the little library in the center of the village.
Logan kept making moves, and eventually, Virgil called off his and Roman's engagement.
Roman had had enough. He approached Logan, wanting to know what he'd done to deserve such scorn. However, when he did, it wasn't what he'd expected.
Instead of Logan's sea blue eyes, ones that exactly matched Roman's stared back at him. "Miss me, brother?"
