Hearing (No Ship)

TRIGGER WARNING: hearing loss, fighting, deafness, slight freak out, scolding (light), language. Lemme know!

Ok....hear me out on this one. Based on the post above bc it popped up on my Pinterest and I just......yeah......

No Ship

Another fight. More screams from Roman to his right, Logan to his left. Virgil had his ears covered. No, he wasn't scared. They were fucking loud. He kept looking between them as insults were thrown left and right, and Patton raising his voice to calm them wasn't helping in the slightest.

Virgil held his ears tighter, groaning. He looked at Thomas like 'help me!' but the host just sighed. He tried calming Logan, but neither of the two yelling sides would listen to anyone. They got louder and louder and louder-

And everything went silent except a shrieking ringing in Virgil's ears. He paused, uncovering them as he felt something wet on the palms of his hands. He looked around, everyone's mouths were moving, but he could only hear the ringing. "Guys," Virgil said in what he thought was a normal voice, but nobody heard. He couldn't hear himself. Virgil took a deep breath and screamed, "Guys!"

The others jumped. As Virgil looked around, he saw nobody's mouth moving except Patton's, and he still couldn't hear. He kept trying to make out the words, but the moral side was just talking way too fast. When he just gave a confused expression, Patton frowned.

Logan glanced over at Virgil, knowing normally the other side wouldn't be this...off. Or loud. He saw a small streak of red going down from Virgil's ear and paled slightly. "Virgil?" he asked, but the other didn't look at him. He tried a few more times, with the same results.

Patton frowned. "Now, Virgil. It's not nice to just ignore Logan like that," he scolded lightly.

Virgil started looking panicked. "I-I...what?" he asked, trying to understand. "I can't hear you guys. You actually need to make noise..." He paused, thinking. "I-I can't even hear myself!" Virgil's hands flew to his ears, feeling the liquid again as he went pale. He pulled his hands back and showed the others.

Roman went over to him, gently taking Virgil's hands. "Logan, this is blood," he said as the logical side walked over. "This really shouldn't be coming from his ears."

Logan looked at him. "No shit," he mumbled. "Apologies, Thomas. We may have to cut this video short," he stated. Their host only nodded and all four sank out, appearing in the mind. Patton had Virgil sit down as Logan sent Roman to grab a medical kit from his room.

The logical side took a look, sighing as he pulled away. "Both of Virgil's eardrums have ruptured," he stated, but there was a slight underlying sadness to his tone. He looked to Virgil before grabbing a notepad and pen he always kept and writing a small note to explain.

As Virgil read it, the others watched as he visibly started shaking. All Virgil could think was how was he supposed to listen to his music anymore? Have fun with the others on movie nights? As much as he said he hated it, he always lied. That was one of his favorite things to do with his family.

He looked up at Logan. "Can this be fixed?" Virgil asked, almost yelling. When he saw Patton jump he felt bad and tried lowering his voice. "Is it possible? I can't c-calm without my music, Logan, and this is freaking me out and I won;t be able to watch movies or do videos or-"

Roman placed a hand on Virgil's shoulder, making him stop and bite his lip. He took the notepad from the anxious side and wrote, 'I'm sure it'll be ok.' He handed it back, seeing the other relax a little and nod.

Logan sighed softly. He looked to Patton, who looked almost ready to cry, and Roman. "I cannot promise that he will regain his hearing," he stated simply. "Nor can I say for certain how long this will last. It is likely that if this is small, it will heal on its own. However...this likely happened over time rather than just today. Nothing super loud went on...nothing hit his ears..."

Patton sighed. "This is why we don't scream," he scolded the two, who looked down. The fatherly side sat next to Virgil, who looked utterly lost, and started writing what Logan had said. He showed him, then gave his son a hug. He wanted to just reassure him, to tell him it'll be ok, but reading it is nothing compared to being able to hear it.

Around three months later, Virgil had started to regain his hearing. Logan had kept a close eye on his eardrums, making sure they healed right. He'd had the other start some antibiotics as well to prevent an infection from starting. He had also had Virgil switch spots with him so that if Roman and Logan did fight, it wouldn't take as much of a toll on the anxious side.

Needless to say, if either of them raised their voices, Patton instantly put a stop to it. He didn't want anyone getting hurt again, and definitely not from something like that. Thomas had started doing the same, but had been really worried for his anxiety when told he had been temporarily deaf.

Also needless to say, Deceit and Remus had laughed their asses off. They found this hilarious, and Patton had grounded them both, on multiple occasions, for pranking Virgil by using his loss of hearing against him. Of course Virgil was faster, so he always ended up tackling the two to the ground.

Logan and Roman agreed on one thing, finally. They had learned their lesson about yelling, and both agreed not to do it again....until the next day, when another fight ensued. Hey, st least Virgil wasn't in the middle this time, right?
