Roman's breathing had been normal. Nothing was out of place. Everything in the Imagination was perfect. Exactly what he had made. Remus hadn't messed with it yet.
Roman's breathing had been normal. Now it was labored, small sobs escaping him. His pride wouldn't let him do anything more. He had grabbed Virgil's jacket on his way out and he held it close to his body. The rain fell down his face and soaked him and the jacket, ruining his previously perfect makeup and hair. The rain made his quickly streaming tears nearly invisible. Nearly.
He then suddenly didn't feel any rain on him, making him look up towards the sky to see an umbrella over his head.
"I knew I'd find you here." Virgil hummed softly, giving a small reassuring smile.
"Me or the jacket?" Roman asked, his voice breaking from crying.
"Both." Virgil said.
"You didn't have to come find me. I would've come back eventually." Roman said with a sigh, looking back down and holding the jacket closer to him.
"It's not the same without you in there. It's all tense and angry. Logan is mad at Patton and Deceit is being a simp and Remus is still... Remus." Virgil said, going to sit down next to him and look out over the beautifully crafted mountain range that Roman had created in only a few seconds. He had always admired the way Roman was able to create all of these things even when he was upset.
"Are they talking about me?" Roman asked, his voice quiet as the distant rolling thunder filled the cold evening air.
"No. They're talking about Thomas being all healthy with his self care and shit." Virgil said and went to lean his head on Roman's shoulder.
"So they are talking about me." Roman mumbled.
"No, you aren't that." Virgil said and Roman looked away. "Roman, this isn't your fault. None of this is your fault. You aren't what's causing Thomas to not be the best with his self care. Plus, Deceit is being an asshole about it." Virgil said, looking to Roman with a small huff.
Roman put his head on his knees, looking away. He didn't want Virgil to see him crying. He was weak for it. He shouldn't be crying.
Virgil sighed. He knew the feeling Roman had. The one where the whole world is rested on your shoulders. Every problem the group has becoming yours. Becoming your fault. It's like you're drowning and every time you get even remotely close to the surface an even larger wave comes crashing down on you and hurls you even farther under the water. "You know... it's not bad to cry." Virgil said, placing the umbrella down on the ground and letting himself get wet with Roman. "I'd even say that it makes a person stronger." He hummed.
Roman's eyebrows furrowed a bit in confusion. "Strong?"
"Yeah, strong." Virgil said, a small smile coming to his lips. Roman's eyes shifted over to Virgil. "You're so strong, Roman. Having emotions- regretting something, feeling guilty- doesn't make you weak. Admitting all of that, growing from it, makes you so strong. So much stronger than anyone could possibly give you credit for."
Roman looked fully over to Virgil. "And what about making giant mistakes that ruin Thomas' life?"
"That hasn't happened. Thomas still has his life. And I'm sure that you'll see soon that everything will be alright. Who knows, maybe he'll find his Prince Charming. Maybe he'll get even better from this experience. Maybe he'll find himself more. At least he can be even more on the path to getting better." Virgil said, humming softly.
Roman paused, the rain stopping as well, though distant thunder could still be heard. It was calming in a way. He stayed silent, sitting in silence with Virgil for a few minutes. He then noticed Virgil had closed his eyes, taking in everything, and he couldn't help but give a very small smile at the calm look on his face.
And, even if only for that one moment, everything seemed like it would be okay. Like his problems were as far away as they could be. On the other side of the world, perhaps.
