Virgil Black was a soldier in the Mind War, between the Darks and the Lights, it was all pointless nicknames but it was still used.
The soldiers were all invited to a ball, The Winter Ball, thrown by the Royals family.
He went there with his friend Janus Copperhead, the two wearing their usual uniform, a black tailor coat, Virgil in a purple undershirt and Janus in a yellow undershirt.
There Virgil met Roman and Remus Royals, Romulus Royals twin sons.
Virgil saw Remus first and prevented Janus from greeting the man in a greet suit, he greeted him before he stumbled off to go with Janus.
Remus introduced him to his brother, Roman who looked at Virgil, completely helpless.
Months of letters between Roman and Virgil, with playful teasing from Remus, and a conversation between Virgil and Romulus, led to this very moment.
Janus and Remus walking down the isle, flowers thrown by a Remy Sleeps and then Roman Black and Virgil Black.
Yeah, the two got married.
Virgil a purple suit and Roman in a red dress, because he wanted to wear a dress.
Rings on index and speeches were to be made.
"Alright, alright. That's what I'm talkin' about!" Janus called out with a grin, glass in hand. "Now everyone give it up for the groom of honour Remus C. Royals!"
Everyone cheered and turned to Remus.
"A toast to the groom!" Remus smiled, glass raised, smiling to Virgil.
"To the groom! To the groom! To the groom!" The males sang, glasses raised.
"To the bride!" Winked Remus at Roman who smirked playfully.
"To the bride! To the bride! To the bride!"
"From your brother!" Sang Remus.
"Remus! Remus! Remus!"
"Who is always by your side." Remus finished.
"By your side! By your side!"
"To your union!" Sang Remus.
"To the union!" Sang the females.
"To the revolution!" Sang the soldiers.
"And the hope that you provide!" Remus smiled.
"You provide! You provide!"
"May you always..." Sang Remus, a smile on his face.
"Always!"
"Be satisfied!" Remus smiled, the smile slowly turning into a frown.
Rewind. Rewind,
Rewind
Helpless,
sky's, sky's
Drownin' in em
Drownin', rewind
'I remember that night, I just might-'
Rewind
'I remember that night, I just might-'
Rewind
'I remember that night, I remember that-'
The Winter Ball, were it all started.
"I remember that night, I just might regret that night for the rest of my days." Remus sang, as soldiers surrounded him, smirking and wink.
"I remember those soldier boys tripping over themselves to win our praise." Remus sang, "I remember that dreamlike candlelight like a dream that you can't quite place.
"But oh sweet Virgil, I'll never forget the first time I saw your face!" Remus sang, "I have never been the same." Thats when he saw Virgil.
"Intelligent eyes in a hunger-pang frame and when you said "Hi," I forgot my dang name." Janus walked up to Remus but Virgil stopped him. "Set my heart aflame, ev'ry part aflame..."
"This is not a game!"
"You strike me as a young man who has never been satisfied." Virgil greeted.
"I'm sure I don't know what you mean." Remus replied, "you forget yourself."
"You're like me. I'm never satisfied." Virgil sang, holding out his hand.
"Is that right?" Remus asked, taking his hand.
"I have never been satisfied." Virgil kissed his knuckles.
"My name it is Remus Royals." Remus greeted and bowed.
Virgil bowed back, "mine is Virgil Anx Black."
"Where's your fam'ly from?" Asked Remus, as Virgil pulled the Royals hand to his chest.
"Unimportant. There's a million things I haven't done," Virgil said, letting go, "but just you wait, just you wait..." He began walking away and stumbled to Janus.
"So so so!" Remus sang, "so this is what it feels like to match wits with someone at your level! What the hell is the catch?" Shrugged Remus.
"It's the feeling of freedom, of seein' the light! It's Ben Franklin with a key and a kite! You see it, right?" He held out a shaky hand.
"The conversation lasted two minutes, maybe three minutes. Ev'rything we said in total agreement. It's a dream and it's a bit of a dance. A bit of a posture, it's a bit of a stance." He's raised his arms as a soldier took his hands.
"He's a bit of a flirt, but I'm 'a give it a chance. I asked about his fam'ly, did you see his answer? His hands started fidgeting, he looked askance?" Sang Remus, as he was spun. "He's penniless, he's flying by the seat of his pants."
"Handsome, boy, does he know it! Some abs, and he can't even show it!" Sang Remus, thinking of how handsome Virgil is.
"I wanna take him far away from this place!"
Roman rushed up to Remus and took his hands, "then I turn and see my brothers face and he is..."
"Helpless..." Roman sang with a dreamy smile, the two spun.
"And I know he is..."
"Helpless...!" Roman took him to the side of the room.
"And his eyes are just..."
"Helpless..." Roman sang again.
"And I realize," Remus caressed his brothers chin softly, with a soft smile then walked off. "Three fundamental truths at the exact same time..."
He tapped Virgil's shoulder, as Virgil was talking to General Thomas Sanders.
"May I borrow for you a minute Sir Black?"
"You May Sir Royals." Smiled Virgil.
Thomas smiled and nodded, watching as Virgil and Remus linked arms.
"Where are you taking me?" Virgil asked.
"I'm about to change your life." Grinned Remus, making Virgil smile in excitement.
"Then by all means, lead the way." Virgil smirked, tightening his grip.
"Number one!"
"I'm a guy in a world in which my only job is to marry rich. My father has two sons so I'm the one who has to social climb for one." Remus sang, as he remembered what he thought that night.
"So I'm the oldest and the wittiest and the gossip in Florida City is insidious. And oh sweet Virgil is penniless. Ha! That doesn't mean I want him any less."
He stopped in front of Roman, who turned around.
"Roman C. Royals." Roman greeted and bowed. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Royals?" Asked Virgil, looking at Remus confused, as he scratched his ear.
"My brother." Remus smiled.
"Number two!"
"He's after me cuz I'm a Royals brother that elevates his status, I'd have to be naïve to set that aside." Remus sang.
"Maybe that is why I introduce him to Roman, now that's his bride. Nice going, Remus C., he was right. You will never be satisfied" Remus frowned.
"Thank you for all your service." Roman thanked, smiling as Virgil took his hand and kissed his knuckles.
"If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it." Virgil replied.
"I'll leave you to it!" Smiled Remus as Roman smiled, being led away by Virgil.
Once out of sight, Remus frowned, missing the glance sent to him by Virgil.
"Number three!"
"I know my brother like I know my own mind, you will never find anyone as trusting or as kind. If I tell him that I love him he'd be silently resigned. He'd be mine, he would say, "I'm fine"..." Remus frowned, "he'd be lying!"
Remus frowned more and looked down, "but when I fantasize at night, it's oh sweet Virgil's eyes, as I romanticize what might have been if I hadn't sized him up so quickly..." He smiled sadly.
"At least my dear Roman's his wife; At least I keep his eyes in my life..." Remus sang sadly.
"He will never be satisfied... I will never be satisfied."
He opened his eyes, he was still making that damned speech and he was smiling, despite wanting to cry.
Glass raised, he continued.
"To the groom!"
"To the groom! To the groom! To the groom!"
"To the bride!" Yelled Remus.
"To the bride! To the bride! To the bride!"
"From your brother!" Remus sang.
"Remus! Remus! Remus!"
"Who is always by your side!" Sang Remus, smiling to his brother.
"By your side! By your side!"
"To your union!" Remus smiled, glancing to Virgil.
"To the union! To the revolution!"
"And the hope that you provide!" Remus continued.
"You provide! You provide!"
"May you always..." Remus sang.
"Always!"
"Be satisfied..." Remus finished.
"Be satisfied. Be satisfied. Be satisfied."
Roman and Virgil walked off, arms linked with each other as guests began to leave.
"And I know..." Remus sang quietly.
Be satisfied. Be satisfied. Be satisfied.
"He'll be happy as his bride..." Remus sighed.
Be satisfied. Be satisfied. Be satisfied .Be satisfied.
"And I know...." Remus frowned.
Be satisfied. Be satisfied. Be satisfied. Be satisfied.
"He will never be satisfied... I will never be satisfied..."
Remus was now alone.
