How Long? (Roman&Remus & RemusxJanusxVirgil)
NOT ROMANTIC!!!!!! Brotherly, and I'm going with the theory of fusions and 'Romulus', ok?
Song: How Long? — NOT romantic, only a few lyrics.
Warning: name J*ffery D*hmer is mentioned, is Romulus good or bad? Who knows?

Patton paced his room, it was the anniversary that he split Romulus into Remus and Roman. It's not like he did it with malicious intent, and yes, he split the brothers to the light and dark, but he had to. He didn't want them fusing again. It was the best for Thomas and for everyone in the mind palace.
They always knew they were split but they never knew who did it, they had assumed Thomas did it, and settled with that. They never thought to fuse, and they never enjoyed the others company. But, they couldn't lie. It felt like something was missing.
Remus was more open about this and so, Janus and Virgil would comfort him, even when Virgil went into the light side, he'd still help with comforting Remus.
Patton sighed, another year of Remus and Roman not knowing any better.
Virgil and Janus had the day marked to a tea and sat either side of Remus, ice cream Virgil's hand, tissues in Janus' and the television, a Jeffery Dahmer documentary.
Remus was crying, stuffing his face with food, a green blanket wrapped around him, cuddling Janus and Virgil.
"Why?! Why do I feel pain on this day?!" Remus cried out, "I feel more lonely and empty on this day more than ever!"
Virgil and Janus glanced to each other, they knew why, they knew who split Remus and Roman, and why they were split twice. Heck, they helped keep the twins apart.
"We don't know my love." Janus sighed, frowning, gently brushing Remus' hair from his forehead.
"Does Roman feel this way?!" Remus whimpered.
Of course he did, and Virgil and Janus helped him in a separate way, usually after Remus fell asleep.
"I don't know." Virgil lied, frowning as he watched his boyfriend curl up into a ball.
Janus and Virgil felt their hearts breaking at the sight, they could only imagine what Roman does when this happens. They couldn't lie, they felt something for Roman, mainly because before the twins were split, they were dating... They shivered at the thought of him.
Thirty minutes into the documentary Remus fell asleep, well more like cried himself to sleep, and would no doubt have a headache when he woke up. Janus left painkillers and a glass of water on the coffee table.
The two left, going to check on Roman, who was angrily slashing at a wooden bedpost, tears down his cheeks, only stopping when he saw yellow and purple pop in.
"Roman put the sword down." Virgil said, calmly.
The prince nodded, and set his weapon down, "I'm sorry, I feel so empty and alone." He whispered, as Janus fluffed up his pillow.
The two knew the brothers, and they had two emotions on the day of their split, they were either extremely upset and empty, or angry and vengeful.
Virgil frowned as he turned on Disney, "I know, just sleep it off. I promise, you'll be okay tomorrow."
Roman nodded and lay down, "thanks for coming guys..."
"Anything for you, Princey." Janus smiled, softly.
Roman was always the more angry and vengeful one, while Remus was more likely to cry and curl into a ball.
Roman watched the movie, and the two Dark Sides sat there with him until he fell asleep, curled into a red blanket.
They walked out.
"You think they'll figure out why they're so empty? Like, they know they split, but the fact that they could potentially fuse again...?" Virgil asked, holding Janus' hand.
"Let's hope not. He could come back and he..." Janus looked down, "trust me. I don't like keeping this from them, especially Remus, but we must and you know it."
"Think they'll ever figure out it was Patton who split them?" Virgil asked, frowning.
"Let's hope for Patton's sake that they don't."
Virgil glanced up, "you think they know why they were split in the first place?"
"If they knew they would have told us." Janus assured, "come on, let's check on our boyfriend."
As promised Remus and Roman were better the next morning. The two wanted to clear their heads, so went into the Imagination to do so.
Remus was lying on the floor, thinking of the lingering empty feeling he had, thinking of Roman. Why had Thomas separated them? He never knew.
"What are you doing here?" Asked Roman, eyebrow raised, standing a few feet away from his twin.
Sitting up, Remus rolled his eyes, "oh it's you. If you must know, I'm cleaning my head. And you?"
"The same." Roman shrugged, glaring, that empty feeling coming back. "You ever wonder why we hate each other, yet feel so empty like we need each other?"
"What?!" Laughed Remus, "no! Don't be stupid! Why would I need you?!"
Roman glared, "fine! I just thought... that maybe, we... I don't know! Needed each other!" He snapped and walked off.
Remus watched with a frown. How did Thomas split them? Why did he? He sighed and summoned a book on fusions, he'd find out that's for sure.
Day passed, Remus not moving from his spot all day, Roman spent it in his throne room, hand covering his face.
Patton sighed, pacing his room. Roman and Remus hadn't returned and he knew Virgil and Janus were worrying.
Logan sat watching him, "Patton relax—"
"I can't relax!" Patton snapped, before frowning. "Sorry, sorry... I just want Roman to be safe..."
Remus popped outside of Patton's room to inform him he was back, and to apologise for running off, and to confront him about this splitting business. But he paused, he could hear Patton speaking.
"What if Roman is hurt? Or worse, what if he's dead? I-I couldn't live with myself Logan!" Patton cried, "I-I need him... I need him here, safe and alive."
"And Remus?" Logan asked, arms crossed.
Patton smiled, "he can handle himself, he's fine. It's Roman, you know how reckless he gets, how he strives to be the best. I need him alive... what if he ran away? Or he's under a spell? Or—"
Remus pulled back. Roman. Roman, Roman, Roman! And he was glossed over. He had to speak to Roman, now!
Roman sighed, staring at the pages of the book. He had been reading if fusions. Pity, that's what he had from Janus and Virgil for so long. Not friends, pity...
He sighed, getting up and walking out to his balcony. Looking at his kingdom he noticed some parts that were missing, some things that didn't look right. He gripped the book, he needed Remus.
"Roman!" Called a nasally voice, making Roman look up. Just the side he needed.
"Remus..."
Remus' eyes fell to the book, then to his brothers green eyes. Roman looked back to Remus' red eyes. How had they not noticed it all sooner? Thomas never split them...
"You want a drink?" Roman asked, summoning two glasses of a red substance.
"Sure." Remus grabbed it, throwing his head back and gulping it.
The two leaned against the stone barrier balcony, they looked over the kingdom, silently. Neither said anything, but both wanted to say something. But who'd start first?
"Remus/Roman my brother." They started, but Roman gestured for his brother to continue.
"Roman the light."
"Remus the darkness..."
"If you had heard how Pat spoke tonight you'd pity poor Thomas..." Remus sighed. "All of the sorrow won't fit in my chest, it just burns like a fire in the pit of my chest. And my heart is a bird on a spit in my chest." Remus admitted, making Roman raise an eyebrow. Was this about the same thing?
"How long? How long? How long?"
How long had they been lied to? How long had they been separated? How long had Patton kept this secret?
"How long?" Asked Roman with a huff. "Just as long as Patton is king, nothing comes of wishing on stars. And nothing comes of the talks people speak. However sorry they are..." Roman looked to Remus. "Give Patton a piece he'll take it all. Show him a crack he'll tear down the wall. Lend him an ear and the kingdom will fall. The kingdom will fall for a song."
"What does he care for the logic of kings?" Remus snarled. "The laws of our underworld?" Underworld... King... it sounds right, it sounds like them. Was that the kingdom? Before they were split.
Remus frowned, "it is only for love that he speaks, he speaks for the love of you lights."
"You and your pity don't fit in my house!" Roman snapped, hand clenched. "You just burn like a fire in the pit of my house!"
"Roman—"
"And I turn like a bird on a spit in my bed." Roman admitted. "How long? How long? How long?"
How long had they been split? How long had this gone on for? How long had they fallen for it?
"How long?" Scoffed Remus. "Just as long as I am your twin, it's true some things must die." He gestured to himself and Roman. "But then we will come back to life! And the sun must go on rising!" He held out his hand for his twin readily.
Roman hesitated, staring at the hand and took it.
Virgil and Janus, who had gotten worried for their boyfriend and friend, went to look for them, going to both kingdoms, only to see Roman grip Remus' hand. A bright light of white and black engulfed the balcony and in place of the brothers was a man.
He was tall, with long hair and a long beard, tied with a band, one eye green, the other red. He had crown with a few diamonds and emeralds in. He wore a cape, with frills in the shoulder and wrists, and a belt, long black boots and a long sword. He had a logo, the two Prince and Duke Logo's mixed together. This man, this side, was over six feet... that's for sure.
He turned and stared at Janus and Virgil, glaring ever so slightly. The two dark sides shook in fear, before falling to their knees in a bow. King Romulus was back.
"Janus, Virgil..." Romulus smirked, striding over. His voice was smooth lovey honey and syrup, deep and grumbly. He moved his white gloved hands to their chins and dragged his index finger under them, making them look up.
"Our love..." The two responded in harmony, eyes staring at Romulus, eyes blank, hiding and masking the fear they truly felt.
Romulus raised an eyebrow, "what are you wearing? It should only be the best for my kings." He snapped his fingers.
In place of their usual clothing, now all they wore were pants, Virgil in purple and Janus in yellow, the pants puffed out and had enough layering to hide their skin. A purple and yellow like veil loosely wrapped their heads, Janus with his hat on still. Think eyeliner and lashes, with red lip stick and green dots under their lower lip. Then to finish it all off, shackles on the wrists, a chain connecting to it like a leash.
Kings, they were never kings. Maybe at some point the two loved Romulus, even now they still did which is probably why they never put up a fight, but they were certainly not kings or treated fairly.
"Let's go my loves."
Patton sighed, sitting with Thomas, Logan, Emile and Remy.
"I don't know where he is!" Patton cried, wiping his teary eyes.
"Patton, Roman will be fine. He's Roman." Thomas assured with much confidence in The Prince.
Logan sighed, "it's the Dad in him..."
"He's not ok! I feel it!" Patton cried.
Remy rolled his eyes, "babes, he's fine. He's great. He's Roman."
"Is Remus with him?" Emile asked.
Patting shrugged, "I don't know, even so, Remus can handle himself... He loves the danger... Roman is more wary of danger..."
"I'm sure he's fine." Thomas assured.
"Oh I am..."
The group looked up and froze, one though on their mind, 'Romulus.'
"Hello, Patton." He spat out, making Patton shrink in on himself.
Thomas stared, "i-is that...?"
"Roman and Remus..." Logan answered, "yes."
Virgil and Janus appeared next to Romulus, their eyes looked cold and hard, but anyone could see the underlying fear in their eyes.
"How does the sun even fit in the sky?" Romulus asked, stalking up to Patton, leaving behind his boyfriends, who watched in fear.
"It just burns like a fire in the pit of the sky, and the earth is a bird on a spit in the sky. How long? How long? How long?" He snarled, face to face with Patton.
Patton stares in fear, as the others tensed.
They had no idea when, or if, the two would split again. Until then, Romulus was King, he was in charge. The others where his subjects.
He glanced to Virgil and Janus. Remus' poor boyfriends.
