Alien (no ship)

I got space on the brain and no impulse control. I don't owe you an explanation. If you like space shenanigans, let me know so I can make more

Logan nervously tapped on the visor of his helmet. He was sweating buckets under the bulky suit, the arms of his glasses digging uncomfortably into his skin. But he couldn't take off the helmet now. He was at a peace meeting, and only his large suit allowed him to conceal the true nature of his humanity.

There was only one other truly humanoid species at the wide table, possessive of a body that reminded Logan of mythical creatures he read back home when he was little. It looked a lot like him on top, but the eyes were spread farther apart and reptilian scales covered the diplomat's cheeks and snakelike lower half, or what he could see under the long skirt at least.

Another caught his eye as they entered, a tall creature about eight feet at least, ducking to fit their tall form into the room. They seemed to possess octopus-like tentacles sprouting from their back, and appeared almost slimy in the blueish lights that almost brushed the tall creature's head. Logan could've reached the lights if he jumped up to hit them, but this creature had to duck under the lights, though they didn't appear to see very well with their pale eyes.

All eyes turned to the snakelike figure, who stood up. Logan had a decent grasp of the common language at the table, but had placed out his translator in front of him just in case.

"Welcome, old friends and new," the naga-like creature paused to look at Logan, "to the first ever Virgo supercluster's diplomatic meeting. Some of you have come far, others not so much, but we are all here today, to discuss the affairs of the new alliance that we will be forming. As an introductory exercise, I request that each of you give your name, species, and homeworld or galaxy. I will begin. I am Janus, a S'akitl from Po'fis in the N784 galaxy."

Logan wrote down names and galaxies, in the hopes that the knowledge would help him later. Then it got around to the other side of the table from Janus, where the eight foot squid creature sat perched cautiously on the chair.

"Duke Remus, Re-ir from the M33 galaxy." Wow, this giant creature lived on a planet so close to Logan's home planet, and he was so drastically different. It was impressive, he would've expected such a foreign creature from himself to come from at least as far as the Canes1 group. Logan realised attention had turned to him, and he stood up shyly.

"Logan, I'm from Earth, in the Milky Way."

A few gasps echoed around the room, and Logan couldn't help but blush. He knew what people thought about the Milky Way. A galaxy of death worlds. If it hadn't have been for the visor of his suit, Logan would have hidden his face. But that was what the visor was there for. To hide the fact that he was human. He had specific instructions not to mention a word of being human to the group, not unless the whole alliance depended on it.

Logan sat down, fidgeting with his hands felt odd with the huge suit. He sighed, relaxing when people seemed to forget about him. The meeting was going smoothly, and no one was saying anything he needed to object to.

The peace treaties were signed, Logan made sure to sign on something with everyone, so humanity would be safe. They had enough problems on their own. They didn't need to be fighting wars with giant tentacled creatures or losing arms races to strange beetle-like creatures.

Then a species attacked them.

It was clear that the other members of the alliance had no experience with underhanded warfare like this, and Logan didn't hear news of the war until possibly months after it had started. He was supposed to bring human soldiers and weaponry to the front lines, to discuss putting human soldiers on the field and using human tactics.

And there he stood, a screen in front of him with several members of the alliance filling the boxes, his clunky space suit concealing himself once again.

"Now, Logan, we absolutely can not have you on the front lines. According to your own descriptions, your people have no armours, no weapons and no stealth advantages naturally. You are an inexperienced species in comparison with the rest of us, you said so yourself. We will not put you on the front lines just yet."
"Janus, I understand you, but we are a tenacious species I promise you. We forge artificial armour and weapons, and our best experts in stealth are comparable to Tark'en warriors. These strategies are ones we've seen before, these wars are ones we've fought on our home planet. If you would just let us help, let me-"
"No, Logan. That is final. You are underprepared, undereducated and underdeveloped. You will stay back this time."

Logan scowled. He could take being called many things, but he was not uneducated, his species was smart. Humans were smart enough for this.

"Janus, these are a predator species, and a primate one at that. You can't tell me you haven't noticed the similarities between-"
"Logan! Shut up! You will not bring your soldiers, you will not bring your weapons, and you will not bring your unwanted advice. You know nothing of this, of war. Stay back, and stay quiet."

That did it. He grabbed his helmet, glancing at a tech who was shaking her head furiously. If he exposed them now, all hell could break loose. But the alliance needed them, if for no other reason than selfish survival, Logan would do anything to preserve the alliance. The helmet hissed out air as it detached.

There was a wave of horrified gasps as Logan's helmet clunked on the floor of the ship. There was deathly silence as Logan adjusted his glasses and grinned. Sharp looking teeth bared in a terrifying display to herbivore after herbivore. A predator species, intelligent enough for interstellar travel? It had never been heard of before.

"I'm a human, Janus. Earth is populated by humans. And we know war. I'll see you on the front lines in less than a cycle. I trust you'll be there."
