Broken Routine

TW: Crying, panic attack, worrying about someone dying
Logan and Patton fell into a routine when the two got married. Every day, when he returned from his job at the local high school, Logan would call out, "Patt, I'm home." In true Patton fashion, Patton would respond with, "Hi home! I'm Patton!" It always made Logan roll his eyes, but he truly loved the feeling of reassurance it brought because he knew that his angel was safe.
So used to the routine, Logan instantly knew that something was wrong when he called out his usual, "Patt, I'm home," and waited for Patton's response, only to be met with silence.
Dropping his briefcase, Logan raced out of the entryway and into the kitchen, which is where Patton usually stood to prepare dinner when he returned. The kitchen was completely empty, not even a pan on the stove to show that Patton had been in the room recently.
"Patt?" Logan called again, voice growing frantic as he ran into the living room.
"Patton?" Logan practically yelled upon seeing the empty living room.
Racing through the room, Logan pulled the cushions from the couch, checking everywhere that Patton could have hidden.
When he had confirmed that Patton was indeed not in the living room, Logan tore upstairs, almost tripping in his rush to find his husband. He poked his head into each and every room, all the while thinking about what could have possibly happened.
There's no way he didn't hear me, why didn't he respond? Something's happened, Patton's not okay, something's happened to Patton, Patton could be hurt, or unconscious, or-
Logan froze in the midst of his search, which left him in his and Patton's bedroom.
"No, he can't be d-dead, h-he c-can't be," Logan told himself, trying to reassure himself. "H-he ca-can't b-be."
Now that he had acknowledged the thought, it was all Logan could think about, and he grew terrified. Tears pricked at his eyes as the ever stoic man's breathing grew ragged.
Falling to the floor in his room, Logan curled into a ball, wrapping his arms around his legs as he tried to force the thought from his mind.
"H-he... h-he's n-not... can't... c-can't b-be," Logan stuttered to himself in between the sobs that wracked his body.
It quickly became harder and harder for him to breathe, and he was soon gasping for even the shallowest breath. Sobs continued to wrack his frame, tears pouring from his eyes. He had lost his glasses sometime during his search, and he was somewhat grateful that he didn't have them digging into his face as he lay on the floor.
Patton closed the front door behind him with his foot, looking over the grocery bags piled in his arms as he set his set of keys down on the table in the entryway. Slipping his shoes off, he headed towards the kitchen to put away the groceries.
When he had opened the fridge earlier to try and figure out what to make, he saw that there was barely anything to work with. This had led to him making an impromptu trip to the store to buy ingredients.
After setting all the bags down and putting things away, Patton went back to the entryway, making sure to lock the front door. As he turned to head back to the kitchen, he tripped, losing his balance as he flailed his arms to regain it.
Once Patton was sure he wouldn't fall over, he turned around to see what it was that had tripped him. He gasped when he saw Logan's briefcase lying on its side in the middle of the floor. That meant that he had arrived when Patton wasn't home, so he couldn't-
Patton immediately raced to the kitchen and saw that the note he had scribbled out to Logan was still where he had placed it. He instantly knew that Logan hadn't seen it, because he always wrote a little note in reply to show that he had read it
"Crap, no, no, no, no," Patton whispered to himself, knowing that Logan would have freaked out about him not being home. It had happened once before, and that had freaked both of them out.
Rushing to the living room, Patton didn't see Logan in the room, so he raced upstairs. At the top of the stairs, Patton paused trying to listen for Logan.
It was a few seconds before Patton heard it; faint sobs coming from their bedroom. Instantly, Patton was at the door, nudging it open to reveal Logan lying on the floor, back turned to him.
"Lo?" Patton whispered, taking a few steps and kneeling beside Logan.
As soon as Logan heard Patton's voice, his breathing stopped, and he lifted his head to see if it truly was his angel that had called his name. When he saw that it was, indeed, Patton, he launched himself off of the floor and into Patton's arms, effectively knocking the both of them to the floor.
"I-I... I th-thought I... th-thatat y-you were... were... g-gone," Logan stuttered out, arms wrapped around Patton's torso and face buried in his neck. Patton didn't hesitate to wrap his arms around Logan in return, one hand moving to card through his hair.
"Shhh, I'm right here, Starlight," Patton whispered gently into Logan's ear, tears starting to form in his eyes. "I'm right here, I'm not gonna leave, Lo. I'm so sorry that I scared you. I'm so sorry, Lo. I'm so sorry-"
Patton's voice cracked as tears started falling from his eyes. Logan could sense this, and he looked up at Patton to see him close his eyes as the tears became more frequent.
"Don't cry, Angel," Logan whispered as he moved one of his hands so that he could cup Patton's face, using his thumb to wipe away the tears. "I know you didn't mean to scare me, it's just my natural reaction to worry about you."
Patton nodded, taking deep breaths as he tried to stop crying. It was a few minutes before both their tears subsided and even longer before they decided to get up and make dinner together, but they couldn't be bothered by the time, simply basking in the fact that had each other.
