Dear You {Prinxiety} (Part One)

This is a human highschool soulmate AU! They are all seventeen in this and none of them are related (unless it says later on) and they do not look alike unless it's in little ways.

Possible Trigger Warning: mention of not eating, mention of scars from....stuff, and a character almost swearing.
———————

Dear You,

Hi! It's me, Prince R! Again. Well, you can probably tell since who really sends letters anymore now that we have text messages?

Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that you should really start thinking positive, Mr. Doom and Gloom. You've always seemed very...negative in these letters, to say the least. At least in the more recent ones. And the last one as well. Would you perhaps like to talk about it?

I mean, sorry if that offended you somehow. I've just always assumed you were a boy. Since in the first letter we didn't really tell each other stuff like that and....yeah.

You might not even be a male for all I know! Oof! I got to go! Mr. Picani might catch me. I'm not supposed to be writing in his class (or in any, for that matter), since last time he caught me writing in his class, he told me to stand up in front of the class and read it to everyone.

That was certainly embarrassing.

Wait, I just realized you don't know who Mr. Picani is. I'll explain in the next letter! If that's okay with you, that is.

From the absolutely fabulous Prince R

Virgil sighed as he finished reading the letter, placing it back in his bag. This was a usual occurrence. The letters, that is.

You see, Virgil and..."Prince R" are penpals.

It was apart of an assignment. One for English class, that is.

Their public school teamed up with the local Catholic school that was near their school for an assignment.

The assignment was to write a letter to one of the kids to the other school. About how life is, what they did over the weekend, if they met their soulmate, etc., etc.

But for privacy reasons, and just incase the two letter writers possibly knew each other, they had to go under fake names. Hence why he's writing to a "Prince R" instead of someone with a normal name.

However, this assignment ended two months ago, and the two decided to still write to each other.

"Let me guess, you were delivered another letter from one of our peers from the other school?"

Virgil looked up at his friend, Logan, and smiled slightly. The two have been best friends for a while now.

The pair met each other back in fifth grade, after Logan saw Virgil having an anxiety attack and tried to help him through it. They've been talking ever since.

You know, like those cliché best friend tropes in the movies or novels or even fanfics, for that matter.

Virgil nodded in response. "Yeah. And I see you got held back by a teacher again?" Logan sighed and nodded. This was a usual assurance for the logical teen.

Logan was easily one of the smartest students in the school, so he usually got held back by a teacher after class asking him to tutor other students in that subject.

"Apparently Mr. Hamilton wants me to tutor some girl named Heather in history. I'm not sure which one he meant, though." He said while folding a napkin on the table.

"Um, Logan?"

"Hm?"

"Your words are showing."

"Fuc-" Logan, in a panic, quickly hid his wrist, putting on a BitFit on it. He didn't really like to show his words off. "The grammar on it is incorrect." Was his excuse. When, in reality, there wasn't really any mistakes. They're always perfect.

Let me explain, each person has a soulmate. Once they meet their soulmate, the first words one person says to the other appears on one person's wrist, and the person who says the words get what the other person said to them on their wrist.

Logan had already met his soulmate. One of the boys-and Virgil's former neighbor-from the Catholic school nearby, Patton Père (if anyone knows what that means you get a cookie-).

Virgil, however, had not met his soulmate. And was starting to doubt that he even had one. He stared at his blank wrist. Surely if he had one it would have to be by scars from......never mind that.

"How much did you see of it?" Logan asked, a bit serious in tone, while a bit on the panicky side as well.

"Eh, only something about a pen." Virgil said with a shrug. Even if he had a soulmate himself, he didn't really care for that kind of stuff.

Virgil had just assumed it was a legend until one day he saw his adopted (is that the correct term?) mother with faded words on her wrist. It's rumored that if the pair of soulmates don't love each other or one/both of them aren't really interested in having romantic relationships with people, the words of their soulmate will become faded out.

The two ate in silence. They usually didn't really talk all that much to each other during lunch, so they usually just ate and occasionally talked.

"Hey, lovelies! Virge I need that letter. Stat." Remy, one of Virgil's peers, said as he took a seat next to Virgil, a cup of Starbucks coffee in hand. (I know he isn't and never will be a side but I ran out of characters okay-)

Remy was like one of those family friends but not really a family member.

He only comes occasionally but was still fun to talk to when he did. However, Remy has been talking to him more, due to him being the messenger for Virgil and "Prince R"'s letters.

"Oh hey Remy. I almost forgot about that." Virgil said, looking up. He quickly grabbed his notebook and a pen out of his backpack, starting to write down his own letter. Soon, he finished, ripping the page out of the notebook and folding it up, handing it to Remy.

"Thank you, hun. Logan, can you say hi to your boyfriend for me? Thaaanks!" Remy quickly got up from the table, and walked away, letter in hand.

"I swear that caffeine is getting to him. His speech is even worse than before." Logan sighed, shaking his head.

Roman sighed as he picked at his food on his plate with a fork. He hated what the school had to offer for lunch. Well, he barely ate anyways so that might have been why. Plus, he was bored out of his mind!

Like usual, his mind was racing with creative ideas and fantasy worlds that Roman usually used to escape reality. He was also curious if his pen pal, "Anxiety", had read his letter yet. Or even replied to him yet.

'Ugh, Remy can be so untrustworthy at times. I wish he couldn't leave me in suspense all the time! Maybe send me a text-'

"Roman? Romaaann? You there?" A voice snapped Roman out of his thoughts, also seeing a hand being waved infront of his face. He just smiled, and looked over at his friend.

"Patton!" The prince like teen said, sounding a tad angry and annoyed, when in reality he was not.

"Sorry Roman. You've been spaced out for, like, twenty minutes!" Patton said, showing a bit of concern but some joy in his voice.

Patton was a childhood friend of Roman. The two met back in kindergarten and they quickly hit it off, not realizing at the time they would be growing up together.

From first tooth lost to first crushes, they've been through it all together. And neither of them would have it either way.

Patton looked around for a few seconds, making sure no teachers or staff would be looking or even possibly listening, before lowering his voice.

"So did you eat at all today?" Patton whispered to Roman. Roman nervously looked down at his lunch tray, shaking his head.

You see, Roman has been struggling with an eating disorder. He was perfectly skinny but.....he still felt something it wasn't enough. So he stoped eating, started skipping meals.

His parents or anyone at all didn't seem to notice at how skinny he started to get so he was able to do it easily. Well, at least one person noticed.

Patton, being a good friend along with being the "dad" friend, took notice of it. Now he is trying to save him from it and making sure his friend actually eats.

"Hey, at least you tried! I know you can do it, kiddo. I believe in you." Patton said, giving a small smile

"Yeah, yeah. Patton, did you realize that your uniform shirt is on backwards?" Roman brought up, Patton soon turning red in embarrassment. (Certain schools have uniforms okay and I had no ideas what to write here-)

"Oh shoot! I'll be back!" And with that he left the table, leaving Roman with his thoughts.

'Patton's lucky. He doesn't have to wait for his soulmate. He already has that guy who I haven't even met yet! What was his name? Loland...Dolan....eh, it'll come to me later. What if I have no soulmate? What if I'm destined to-'

The bell soon rang, signaling the end of lunch period. Roman stood up, and poured his lunch in the trash. He walked out of the lunchroom and into the hallway and headed off to class.

The rest of the day went like a burr for Roman. One class after another, just blurriness. To Roman, it was hard to have any fun or focus when you have hardly any of your close friends in your classes.

The bell rang, signaling the end of the day. Roman pushed pass people in the crowded hallway, making his way over to Patton.

"Hey! We on for movie night?" The prince like teen asked his friend with a small smile.

"Oh.....well, sorry to say this, but I actually can't tonight. Logan planned to introduce me to one of his friends tonight! He says I know him, well...I've met a lot of people but I'm still excited!" Patton said, practically beaming.

'Oh, Logan's his name...I swear I've heard that name before....' Roman thought to himself. He quickly smiled again.

"Fun! Well, I'll see you later-" Roman started to walk away, before being spun back around, coming almost face to face with Patton.

"Hey, wanna come? I mean, since he's introducing me one of his friends, shouldn't I introduce him to my best one?" Patton said, looking happy, per usual.

Roman sighed. "Look, I won't come if you don't want me to. I mean,-" Roman stopped, soon looking at Patton and.....realizing he was doing his puppy dog eyes. "Fine I'll come."

Patton soon smiled really wide and grabbed Roman's arm, and raced out of the school.

"So you are coming? Virgil you do not have to accept this invitation if you do not want to go."

It was after school now, and Virgil and Logan were walking on the sidewalk, already away from the hell that is school.

"Yeah. I mean, he sounds cool, and the two of us haven't talked in a while so it would be good to see him, y'know?" Virgil said with a shrug. He didn't really care if he went or not. But he wanted to make sure that Logan's soulmate wasn't, like, a murderer or something. So Virgil agreed when he was asked.

"Virgil I never even told you about him." Logan said with a sigh, adjusting his glasses.

"I know. But sti-"

"Logan? Oh my gosh, hi!" Virgil got cut off with the sound of a bubbly voice. Virgil turned around, and saw that a boy their age with glasses and-for some reason-a cardigan tied around his shoulders came running up to them.

The boy had light brown hair and bright blue eyes framed with glasses, and a big smile to go with it. Virgil also took notice he had a uniform on, figuring that he must go to the Catholic school in the area.

Wow. Patton sure has changed over the years. Virgil thought to himself, soon noticing someone else there, staring in the direction of him and Logan.

The boy looked around his age and was also wearing the uniform, Virgil noted. He had brown hair that was in between being darker and lighter hair. The boy also looked noticeably skinner and shorter than Patton, who is now hugging Logan.

Huh. Odd. The emo thought to himself, staring down the smaller boy who was staring at him.

That was all he could tell until the boy in the distance made eye contact with Virgil, but Virgil soon got distracted by being met with a tight grip around him.

"Patton! You can't just do that! Virgil, I'm so sorry." Logan said, trying to pull Patton off of Virgil.  "Virgil, this is my soulmate, Patton. Patton, this is Virgil. My best friend. According to previous knowledge, you guys know each other if I remember correctly."

The boy, he remembered as Patton, gave Virgil a big smile, while waving to him excitedly. He seemed to have ignore Logan and just went straight to speaking.

"Hi! I'm Patton! You look like.....wait a minute, Virgil? Is that you? Oh my gosh, I haven't seen you in so long! Oh, and here! I made this for....well, you I guess." Patton pulled something out of his pocket and handed it to Virgil.

Virgil fiddled with.....whatever it was in his hands. It was a piece of paper of some sorts. A card, maybe. Virgil pocketed it, planning to read it later.

Patton continued talking about....well, Virgil had no clue at this point. Probably catching up on things.

During all of this, however, Virgil's eyes focused on the boy staring at him, silently and patiently and with wide eyes.

Virgil didn't know why, but he was intrigued by him. There was something him that he couldn't put into words. He couldn't describe it. It was almost like he was drawn to him. Almost like they were.....

No. He's not. You haven't even spoken to him! Virgil thought, internally slapping himself for it.

"Hey Virge? What are you looking at?" Patton spoke up, snapping Virgil out of his thoughts immediately. He looked over at Patton.

"O-Oh, um, nothing." The emoish boy lied through his teeth. He took a glance at where the petite boy was standing, but he was gone.

Huh. Odd. Virgil thought to himself.

"Oh my gosh I can't believe I just did that. Oh my gosh I can't believe I just did that. Oh. My. Go-"

"Romano, you good?" Remy interrupted Roman, waving around the letter. "Aren't you gonna read this letter from "Anxiety"?"

"How do you know his-Nevermind that give me it." Roman said, yanking the letter out of his hands. He ran into to his house and ran upstairs into his bedroom, jumping onto the bed and opening the letter.

Dear You,

Yeah, I'm a boy. I'd just never said anything since...um...this may sound stupid but I was kind of....anxious to do it. And when I get anxious....I, well.....I'd rather not say. Nevermind.

And I'm fine, thanks though. Although, that kind of reminded me of my one friend. He goes to your school as well. I haven't seen him in a while, so I may be wrong.

I'll just call him....Pat. He's usually (or, used to, I think) sunshiny and happy and positive and supportive and helpful and...I honestly have no idea how he does it. It's strange how someone is like that. How the world never changes him. He recently got a soulmate, who is also my friend. And I was invited to go see him again tonight.

Anyways, I gotta go. Lunch is almost over and.....yeah.

-Anxiety

Roman sighed, hugging the letter to his chest. He enjoyed reading the letters he got from "Anxiety". They brought him at least a bit of joy.

Although, the part he mentioned about this "Pat" friend of his reminded him of Patton for some reason. Wait, didn't he have to-

"oH SHOOT-" Roman sat up, remembering about Patton. He quickly set the letter by the others and grabbed his phone, sending a quick text to Patton.

He had completely forgotten that he was supposed to be there, Roman quickly figured out that he must have been in one of his fantasies again while Patton left, and decided to apologize.

Prince Roman: Hey! Sorry I left. I was really in deep with one of my fantasies and I remembered about the letter and.....I'll try to get there if I still can.

Padre: Okay! We went to the mall. Although, have no idea where Virgil went.

Prince Roman: "Virgil"?

Roman's mouth was open in slight shock and a bit confusion. The name wasn't very common so it was kind of a shocker to hear someone with that name.

Padre: Huh?!

Padre: Oh, right!!

Padre: Virgil is Logan's friend. I think you'd like him.

Padre: Although, that may be because I saw you staring at him before you left....

Prince Roman: Patton!

Padre: What? Even if you were imagining things you know it's true.

Roman sighed and set his phone down. He hated to admit it, but the emo looking boy seemed....interesting. And he did want to know more about him....
