At least Deceit had been understanding and supportive, Remus thought bitterly as he looked at the photo placed above his desk. Logan's smile seemed to glow, radiating like the sun and lighting up Remus's world. His heart hurt, and he wanted oh so desperately to see Logan again. Even if it were for a short time. He just wanted to see his boyfriend.
Would they even still be considered a relationship anymore?
Remus stuffed his fist into his mouth to muffle his sob, tears starting to trek down his cheeks for the millionth time over the past two months.
Two months.
That was too long without seeing Logan. Remus didn't know how he's survived this far.
He couldn't even sneak into Logan's room. It was always guarded, them keeping Remus out and Logan locked inside. If only Remus had the courage to actually harm one of them, maybe he'd be able to see his love. But he didn't want to hurt them. It'd only hurt Thomas.
He jolted as his door was broken down- he hadn't even heard the knocking!- and Virgil stormed up to Remus grabbing fistfuls of Remus's shirt. Remus yelped as he was pulled to his feet and shoved to the wall. "What the fuck are you doing?" He screeched, wrapping his hands around Virgil's wrists. "Let me go!"
Huffing and a Deceit doubled over came into sight behind Virgil. "Virgil think about what you're about to do-"
"Where's Logan?" Virgil hissed, anger leaching from his very being.
Remus blinked at him. "What?"
"Anxiety! I've already told you Logan hasn't set foot in here, now let Remus go." Virgil ignored Deceit, even after his role name was used. Remus noticed the small twitch of his eye though.
"Where's Logan? He's not anywhere in our side of the mindscape, and we found a note in his room saying he left to find you."
Remus furrowed his brow, and then it hut him. "Shit!" He shoved Virgil away as quick as he could and bolted out of the room. Virgil and Deceit followed hot on his heels and through the door connecting the two commons.
Remus didn't wait for Virgil or Deceit, nor did he pay any mind to Patton or Roman's shouts of protest. The Imagination door slammed closed behind him and all Remus could hear was the pounding of his heart, thundering in his ears and all he could think was that he can't run fast enough.
Six days.
Six long, miserable days.
Remus leaned on a tree, cursing under his breath. He couldn't feel his feet anymore, and exhaustion was eating at his mind faster and faster. He slumped to the ground, holding his head in his hands. He took in long breaths but it wasn't enough. He needed energy, energy he did not possess.
"God, please be okay," he whispered. Remus looked up to the sky, turning a stunning shade of candy apple red with hints of hot pink and violet slowly creeping past an orange glow. Sunset was nearing.
He hated how beautiful the sky seemed. He wished he could enjoy it, watch as the stars slowly came back to life after a long day's rest and listen as Logan rambled off the constellations. Remus would sometimes create new ones for him to find, giving Logan his dream of finding brand new stars and creating those stunning maps that were always so precise.
Remus's heart ached at the thought of Logan, and he grunted as he pulled himself to his feet. He could see his castle, a black silhouette against the sinking star. He took a deep breath, if he remembered right, it was about a mile away.
He'd need to rest, no matter how much he hated it. Every second not searching meant another chance of Logan getting hurt.
Remus stumbled as he took a step, then another. Until he was running yet again, as fast as his numb feet would carry them. He knew he didn't want to be out after dark, his creatures were uncontrollable even for Remus once it reached nightfall. And some were far more hostile than others.
He shivered at the idea of his snake-wolf-shark hybrid and ran faster.
He collapsed just inside the castle just as the son finally sunk behind the treeline. The door slammed closed behind him and he just lied there, face buried in the wooden floor. Remus felt like lead, his limbs so sore and yet so numb. He felt his stomach growl- when had he last had a meal? Remus couldn't remember.
Hot tears slipped their way down his cheeks as he shoved himself to his elbows, the image of Logan mangled on the forest floor from one of Remus's horrible beasts flashing across his mind. Remus was probably too late. He'd searched everywhere for Logan.
Remus didn't hear the soft clicks of heels or notice the shadow, but he certainly heard the voice.
A low chuckle, bemused. "Took ya long enough."
Remus snapped his head up, wincing as he did hear a crack. He was met with a soft gaze behind rimmed glasses, only set off by the multitude of scrapes and long gash along his side. Remus thought he might've died and was just seeing things. Maybe it was the lack of sleep.
The other side sat in front of Remus, helping him to sit up. He brushed away Remus's tears and Remus only cried harder, grasping Logan's hands tightly in his own. "You're okay," Remus choked out. "You're okay."
Logan nodded, giving Remus's hands a soft squeeze. "My deepest apologies for scaring you, everyone as the Dragon Witch has informed me-"
"-Hope knew where you were?!"
"-yes, anyways. I'm so sorry. It was never my intent. I just... I really needed to see you, and they never even let me out of my room. I had to take the first chance I got and..."
Remus cut him off by collapsing into Logan, holding the logical trait as tight as he could. Logan held Remus just as tight, if not more so. Tears pricked Logan's own eyes as Remus sobbed.
"I'm just glad you're alive. I was so worried, I thought the only person who could tolerate me for more than an hour was dead and it'd be all my fault and- and- I just, life without you is too miserable, it'd be worse if you were truly gone from it. I love you too much to lose you."
Logan stayed quiet for a moment, taking in a shaky breath. "I'm sorry. I... I love you too."
Remus pressed himself closer to Logan, and before he knew it, he was out cold.
