Plan out the Window - Dukexiety -

Might've gone a bit off prompt here- that's my bad! Basically I wrote it as a plan gone wrong but worked out in the end 😅

----------------------------------

"Hold on- what?!" Roman's shrill voice carried throughout the entire mind palace as Remus held Virgil close, interlocking their fingers. He gave Virgil's hand a soft squeeze, feeling the side's shoulders slump just a bit. This was the first time they were coming out, after all.

"Yeah Princey! Isn't it great? It didn't go exactly as I hoped it would-"

"We got attacked by a giant bear wasp thing that spat ice."

"Which! Made it all the more exciting! Right Scare-Bear?" Remus managed to pull Virgil closer. The embodiment of anxiety groaned, letting his face fall into Remus's shoulder.

"From here on out, no nicknames with bear in it. Not after all that." Remus huffed at Virgil's words, but didn't argue. Instead he held Virgil's hand up, the others- being Roman, Deceit, and the Dragon Witch- crowding around them to get a better look.

On Virgil's hand was an intricately created ring that had tiny chain links attaching it to a bracelet. In both were small gemstones bedded into it, a mix of deep purple and pastel green. The inscriptions were in a language only Remus and Virgil knew.

"I knew you were up to something, coming to my hut with those glittering jewels!" Hope exclaimed, tentatively taking Virgil's hand in her own to look more closely. "By the stars, this is gorgeous."

"I still don't understand- you two have been dating for how long again?" Roman asked, one hand on Remus's shoulder and the other on his hip.

"Almost four years," Virgil answered.

"I say about time." Deceit spoke softly, but a fond smile rested on his face. "Now I won't need to be the one to get Remus up in the morning."

"Dee wait hold on you can't really expect me to wake up this gremlin?" Remus gasped, looking down at his fiance in utter betrayal. Deceit laughed.

"Your husband, your responsibility." Virgil cursed under his breath.

"I'm right here!" Remus pouted slightly, but couldn't hold back his smile as he burst into a fit of giggles. Roman clapped his hands.

"Alright, so it seems I'm the only one not in the know about this, aside from maybe Logicality upstairs in their rooms. Can ya fill me in?"

And so they all settled on the couch around Remus and Virgil. As Remus told the tale of how they started dating, how they kept it hidden for so long, and even told the events of the day, Virgil watched him with nothing but love and fascination in his eyes.

Their engagement hadn't gone exactly as either of them planned. A lovely picnic in the Imagination. It happened to pour. So they went inside(leaving picnic outside). Remus getting down on one knee and just as he's about to ask, something crashes through a window.

They... Eventually got back to the question. And Virgil said yes.

Watching as Remus made a very rough sketch of the creature that had attacked them, Virgil felt a sort of amazement that he could have fallen in love with this absolutely demented but amazing man. That Remus even returned his feelings.

Sure, Remus admitted that the proposal was spontaneous. He'd had something else planned. But in reality...

Virgil could care less about it. So long as he was with Remus in the end.

Virgil nestled closer to Remus, letting his eyes flutter closed as an arm wrapped prospectively around him.

He wouldn't exchange it for anything in the world.
