Failed Date - Prinxiety -

Human/Soulmate AU

------------------------------------------

Virgil sighed, looking down at his phone to see no new texts. Maybe he should order, his fate clearly wasn't coming now. Or maybe he should just leave? It'd feel weird to start ordering after telling the other servers that he was waiting on somebody.

He was about to start putting his jacket back on and leave when a stranger - wasn't he one of the servers as well? - slid into the empty chair across from him.

"I'm so sorry, my car wasn't working and my phone died halfway here so I couldn't text you. You haven't ordered yet, have you?"

The apology was loud enough for people around them to avert their eyes away from Virgil, and Virgil shook his head.

"Who the hell are you, and what are you doing?" He whispered, but he made no move to leave.

"The name's Roman," the man smiled at him. "And I'm helping. Now, are you ready to order?"

Virgil tried to mask his surprise, his complete shock. But it clearly failed, as Roman tilted his head in concern. "You okay?"

"I'll be right back, order for me okay?" Virgil quickly told him his order before rushing off to the bathroom. Once inside, he took off his jacket again, his face pale but he could feel excitement coursing through his veins as he rolled up his sleeve a bit to look at the name, permanently imprinted to his skin.

The inky black letters were no longer there, like they had been just an hour earlier when Virgil last checked to make sure. No, now there were bright red letters with gold splotches, as if shimmery golden paint had been dripped onto the letters.

His breath hitched, he was not expecting this to happen today. Especially in this way. In his mind, he always expected it to be at least better than meeting them on a failed date. Dear god, he felt sick with embarrassment. He met his soulmate on a failed date.

Slowly, he pulled his jacket back on. Maybe now wasn't the best time to bring it up to him. He could do that later, in a more private situation.

Leaving the bathroom, Virgil was surely paler than when he left. He slid back into his seat across from Roman, who looked up from his bag. Roman flashed him a grin.

"I'll ask again, you okay?"

Virgil smiled slightly and nodded. "Yeah, yeah. I'm sorry, just had to check something." Roman hummed lightly, nodding.

They began to talk, and somehow Roman avoided actually asking for Virgil's name. For now, at least. Constantly calling Virgil "My love", "sweetheart", and even "darling" and "dearest". They sounded so natural, and Virgil found himself blushing on many occasions. Maybe one day they'd be used for him on an actual date.

They enjoyed their dinner, Roman asking some questions about Virgil, and Virgil Roman. Time seemed to move much quicker, and Roman insisted on paying. Virgil could've sworn the waitress smiled at Roman with an impressed and grateful expression.

They left the restaurant hand in hand, but when they got out of reach of the resturaunts light, Virgil pulled his hand free. Roman didn't try to grab it again, humming lightly to himself.

It was cut short as he gasped. "Dammit! I can't believe I forgot!" Roman spun on his heel to look at Virgil. "What's your name? And who the fuck stood you up because I'd love to go have a little 'chat' with them."

Virgil's face flushed pink lightly and he tugged on one of his jacket sleeves. "Oh, my name? It's uh, Virgil."

Roman froze on the spot, eyes widening. He raised his sleeve up a bit on his jacket, showcasing dark purple letters written neatly in curvy lettering. His face split into a grin.

"Oh my stars! You're Virgil?" Roman suddenly grasped both Virgil's hands in his, and Virgil smiled slightly. His nerves slowly fading. He nodded, and Roman squeezed his hands slightly.

"So, that's why you rushed off to the bathroom?"

Virgil rolled his eyes, but nodded. "Also the fact that a cute guy was willing to pretend to be my date. Had to process that."

Roman's on face turned red and he laughed. "Well, I hope the date went well at least?"

Virgil smiled. "I think it went better than it would have if the guy actually showed up."

"Wanna do it again like, Saturday?"

Virgil agreed, and they exchanged numbers. Virgil was about to walk back to his car, but turned around last minute and presses a quick kiss to Roman's cheek. "Thanks again!"

And then he left Roman a blushing and flustered mess, already typing at his phone to tell Logan the good news.
