Out of my Mind Part 4

<Virgil's POV>

The door to my cell opens and a man walks in. He doesn't look much older than me...

He walks over to a chair next to me. I remain still on my bed and don't acknowledge him.

"Hi, I'm Roman." He says. I say nothing

<Roman's POV>

"Hi, I'm Roman." I say. The boy in front of me doesn't respond, or acknowledge my presence at all.

"It's okay if you don't want to talk to me, I'm not asking you to."

He shoots me a cautious glance, so fast I almost miss it, then goes back to staring blankly at the wall. I look at him, studying every feature.

His skin is pale, almost as if he's wearing foundation, but I know he wouldn't be able to get that so it must be natural. His hair is a dark brown, similar to my own, and looks as if he doesn't put much effort into it. His fringe hangs into his face. He's laying on the bed in the room with a loose posture. Everything about him gives off a vibe that says that he doesn't care and would rather be left alone.

Everything except his eyes. His eyes are a deep chocolate color, filled with so many emotions but still have this guarded look to them. They show fear, curiosity, cautiousness, pain, anxiety, sadness, borderline depression, intimidation, loneliness, stress, discomfort, and a slight insanity. They show everything he hides from the world. They show everything that he thinks will be used against him. They're my favorite thing about him, because they give me a glimpse of the real him, the person behind the walls, the person he tries to keep hidden.

"I like your eyes." I find myself saying. He tenses slightly, but that's the only sign that he heard what I said or even noticed that I spoke.

"It's kinda cold in here.." I say, noticing the slight draft in the room. I get no reaction.

"Are you always this quiet?" I ask, genuine curiosity in my voice. He gives a small smirk in amusement but other than that, nothing.

We go on like this for the rest of my two hours. I make small comments and observations and he gives little to no response. Not once did he talk.

The door to the room opens and Patton sticks his head in.

"Roman, time to go." He says to me. I nod and get up from my seat. I make my way over to the door, and look back to say one more thing before leaving.

"Ya know? You don't seem like the kind of person who would be in a mental hospital. At least... I think your pretty normal." Then I walk out and close the door behind me.
