No Ship/Virgil centric - An Offer.

Quick authors note: This is in the same au as the Roman as a Siren so if you don't know who Jane is, I suggest you read that.

This isn't as interesting as that but demon lore is fun as hell to write.

Warning: Refences to torture and workmen abuse. Also a swear in the authors note.

All dark themes are subtler than the last one but still.

Did she like the job?

No.

Did she have a choice?

Also no.

The afterlife was simply unjust to it's unfortunate recipients so there was really nothing Jane could do about it. Her beautiful curly red hair had been tugged out of the roots and had grown in as raven and her black dress did not flow quite like it did in life. Her freckles on her cheeks were completely gone as well as the colour in them. Her green eyes had faded to gray, no longing matching the necklace she had lost when she died.

Jane wore special ankle high boots that allowed her to walk on the molten lava that made up the cavern's flooring. Unluckily, they did not protect the rest of her body was covered in burn marks and her knees down had been burnt off, ashes falling out of the stub and into the boots. The boots just walked as if she had legs and when she put them on, it was like her feet were still there

Those marks weren't even the worst viscous attack on her wellbeing. That prize belonged to the four demons she served from all the abuse they delivered to her over the past few months of her sentence.

Four bells hung from her hair, signifying all the demons she worked for. They all had separate bells that if rung would also make one in her raven hair ring. The longer she took to do what they wanted, the harder the bell would pull at Jane's hair, even ripping some strands out if she took too long which is how all her aurbun hair was ripped mercilessly from her skull within her first week of being dead.

That's how she always knew when they wanted something.

Her hair was normally constantly being tugged on since her masters were so lazy, they made her do everything for them. But the Angel's were for once kind to her as today she was spared from the abusive behavior as the three demons had all gone out for the day to make the living's lives even more miserable. 3, not 4. 3. But Jane wasn't aware of that and thought she was by herself.

Boy was she wrong.

Jane sat at the dining room table, marking off all the tasks she had already completed on the chores list they had left for her. She didn't notice the dark presence behind her. She huffed in boredom, blowing her straight, black fringe up in the air. That's when he decided to speak. "Sup Jane." A deep voice spoke, one the almost sounded as though it echoed when he talked.

She jumped in surprise, assuming she was home alone. Jane looked to where she had heard the voice from. There, stood in the doorway, was one of the demons she served. Virgil. Virgil had pale skin with a very light purple tint and his cheeks were covered in purple spiral like markings. His dark brown bangs, almost appearing as black, always fell over his eyes which were shockingly black.

He had pointed ears, not actual horns like his roommates did. Jane assumed it was like an angel thing where you complete a task before you get your wings. He was definitely the most human looking of all the demons. You could glance at him for a second and say 'Huh, what a pale person'. That was until you closer. He wore a black and grey jacket that was always zipped up and had the hood up with no acception. Jane didn't think she'd ever seen him without it.

Underneath his dead eyes were bangs from lack of sleep (She didn't even know if demons had to sleep!) but they gave off the impression that it was eyeshadow for some reason. Weather they were real or fake, Jane didn't know and really did for.

But luckily for her, Virgil was also the most peaceful of the four demons. He simply gave her harmless nicknames as he passed her in the hall while the others tortured her and did other unspeakable things to the poor girl. Jane had another reason to respect him though, he never rang his bell. She appreciated that more than words could describe. Virgil was different than others like him.

That didn't mean she honestly trusted him. She trusted him as much as she could bring herself to because he was only person she could trust. Jane was obviously still wary of him since he is a demon. On top of that, it's hard to trust someone who has something called a scream chamber filled with torture devices. He insisted he never even used it once, just kept it around because it was a gift.

But other than all that, he was a... semi good person.

He still went to the mortal world and terrified normal people but that was a required thing. His job was literally called a fear collector after all. "H-hey?" To say Jane wasn't used to normal, every day conversation with Virgil would be a serious understatement. Their conversations always contained apologies for others behavior as well as jokes he found amusing.

The conversations were numerous but not very long. Understandable, Virgil tended to avoid interaction as much as he could and kept to himself most of time so anytime he spoke to her, she took it as a compliment. Plus if Jane's family had maid who they abused, she'd most likely avoid talking to them too. "Halfway though. I'm surprised you haven't filped out at one of us yet."

For a minute, Jane didn't know what he meant but then she realized; she had served them for 6 months now, half the time she sentenced to. When Jane died, no one knew where on the good-bad scale she sat. Some said she had been kind and compassionate in life. Others, mostly the older ones, said she constantly disobeyed her family and died from lust because of that stupid fish thing that drowned her.

That's why she was here, serving them. They gave her a choice, straight up go to hell or go to heaven after completing a task to prove herself. She picked the second of course and they told her that if she could up the four demons for a year, they'd undo all the damage done to her and send up to heaven. Was it worth it? Jane didn't even know what heaven was like but she hoped so.

"Woo." Jane fist pumped the air unenthusiastically and sarcastically. She spoke bluntly, voice flat as she fake cheered. She didn't feel too proud of the achievement, just seeing it as an extended failure that started from her death cause. Stupid hot fish thing. The entire reason she had the job was so she could earn her spot in heaven and not to belong in that place for eons.

It sucked there. Hell was not as lit as satan's twitter account would have you believe. Not everything was on fire, just some. Jane would say she wished she was dead but she already was and it was five times worst than living. Virgil sighed. "Yeah it's not that great, I just thought I would get you something to celebrate." Jane raised an eyebrow as Virgil smirked.

Virgil pulled out a glass bottle with a cork blocking the top and a large transparent crystal ball from somewhere in his jacket pocket. How did he even fit them in there? Magic, she supposed. Jane's eyes practically glowed in amazement. She was completely speechless. "Y'know I was gonna to make this ball show you your family but if you don't want i-"

He picked the items up off the table, about to them back into his pocket when Jane grabbed his wrist to stop him. She needed to see her family right now even if it wasn't in person. In death, she truely appreciated them and everything they did for her. Even thinking of them gave her hope. Virgil looked surprised for a minute before going back to smirking.

"Alright, you wanna see someone specific? Because I only have the ingredients for one spell." Jane thought for moment. Best case scenario, she was hoping she could see all her family. That wasn't possible though she'd have to make it count, choose the one she had missed the most. The question though was who exactly was that? It really wasn't that difficult.

She needed someone positive, someone who would make feel happy. Who better than her little bro?

"Patton. I chose Patton."

That was like four pages worth of writing in my notebook hhhhhhhhHHHHHH.

Sorry for not uploading here the past few times. I got absolutely saturated at school the week so I wasn't feeling motivated but I found my umbrella yesterday so yay! It's the last day of school (term)! Double yay!

I wrote a fucking song verse. That has nothing do with anything else I just wanted to mention it.
