Logicality - Illogical.

Warning: Sadness and angst.

***

The sun had began to rise over the hill. The sky mixed into a beautiful mix of orange, yellow and red all expertly painted and reflected into the calm and clear waters of the river
to make a truely magnificent sight to see indeed. As soon as the sun began to filter though the faulty curtains, Patton groaned and woke up begrudgingly, practically dragging himself out of bed.

Not that he could really complain, the townsfolk of the village were kind enough to give them this place to stay while they sorted out an anomaly in Thomas' imagination which they were grateful for. It also had spectacular views as Patton found he drew the torn up curtains back, sighing contentedly with a smile on his face at the pleasant surprise of a such a gorgeous sight in the morning.

To avoid not being able to the painting like sky, he hurriedly got dressed into a his normal light blue shirt, beige jeans and black sneakers. But, since he couldn't find his cat hood, he threw a black cardigan on over it, not wanting to freeze in cold early morning. He walked up the curved, creaky steps, passing the others rooms as sliently as he could, making his way up to the rooftop.

The rooftop had an even more excellent view than his single window in his dark room of the naturally made beauty that was a sunrise. To his surpise but certainly delight, one of his fellow sides had already made his way up to watch the sunrise, legs hanging off the edge. It was always better to watch beautiful things with good company and Logan definitely made for excellent company.

He already looked ready for the day in  early hours of the day, unlike Patton who had simply thrown an outfit together when he had woken up out of excitement, his hair slicked back while Patton still had messy bedhair. Logan too had his usual outfit of blue jeans, black polo shirt with blue and black businessman like shoes but also had a black jacket because, like Patton, he believed it would be cold.

They were both incorrect since the basking heat of the bright sun made it comfortably warm. Patton grinned to himself as he sat down with his legs underneath him, a simple glance was the only sign he received from Logan that showed he knew he was there. Patton smiled contentedly once more as the two sat peacefully in silence, simply enjoying the wordless company as they gazed at the stunning sunset in front of them.

After a few minutes of admiring the gorgeous view, Patton spoke softly, eyes remaining on the dazzling sunset. "Isn't it beautiful, Lo?" For a short while he received no response as Logan bit his lip. He was barely paying the breathtaking sunrise any mind, he just needed a bigger space than the small room he was given by the townsfolk for temporary residence.

"... I suppose." Was Logan's simple response. Patton tore his eyes away from marvelous view to look at Logan's anxious gaze at his normally calm brown eyes fluttered around the view and fiddled with nothing in particular in his hands. It was a habit when he thinking of something particularly terrible. Patton's smile fell and was replaced with concern.

He placed a hand on the man's shoulder, getting his attention."Is something bothering you?" Logan sighed, knowing if he tried to deny the accusation that Patton would see right though the lies no matter what lie Logan pulled. Therefore, there would be no point since doing something that impossible was illogical and not worth the effort Logan could be spending on solving the problem.

Besides he needed a little positively to balance out the negativity in his mind to truely achieve his logical thinking and Patton seemed to be the best trait to go to for help in that area. He spoke cautiously and quietly. "Deceit has been gone for years but you and I both saw his name tagged back at the town plaza. Do you believe the tag was copied to gain our attention or he's still out there?" Patton frowned.

He turned back to face the sunset that was soon to be long forgotten. He hadn't really had the chance to think about the dark side's name spray painting on the wall. Heck, he hadn't the chance to really think about anything on the entire short but overstuffed trip but since the townsfolk said they could handle it, Patton took the much needed opportunity to collect his bearings.

Patton thought when he had the chance and think about all the events of the few days they had been there that he would have thought of something meaningful to say. But all his thoughts were jumbled and incoherent but one stuck out which was the one Patton then said to Logan. "Yeah, I really don't know. If he is back though, do you think he's after Virgil again?"

He voiced his concern to Logan, now beginning to fiddle aimlessly with his own fingers, pulling his feet out from underneath himself to sit cross legged.
Logan quickly erased the possibility and eased Patton's concern, knowing even if that was the case, Virgil could handle himself. "You needn't worry, I sincerely doubt that is the case as Virgil was simply a lacky to him."

He slowly reached over to Patton and separated his hands to stop him from fiddling, keeping his hand to rub his knuckles gently. Patton sighed, internally wishing that he could simply believe what Logan said to him since, deep down, he knew it was the truth but his worry did not cease. "I can't help but worry. I dont want to lose him, I dont want to lose any of you. I just love you all so much."

Logan raised an eyebrow at the word 'love'. Patton often used it but it was meaningless to Logan himself, not understanding it well. Noticing Logan's raised eyebrow, Patton repeated himself to clarify with a different word Logan understood. "Yeah, I care about all you guys. Especially you, you're my best friend." Patton unconsciously interlocked their hands.

Logan, however, was too distracted by his thoughts to notice.

Sure, he considered himself to be close to Patton. But best friend seemed to be pushing it as Patton had so many traits he was close to, unlike Logan who really just had him. But the small but genuine smile on Patton's face told him that Patton thought of him that and he was quite honoured to be given the title. He smiled back at Patton. "You're my closet companion too, Patton."

He squeezed Patton's hand who looked slightly shocked at the smile before his surprise turned into a grin.
"I know." He knew full well just how distant Logan could be on occasion so Logan admitting that Patton and him were best friends or even just normal everyday friends made him practically glow with happiness. He squeezed the hand back unconsciously.

Logan sighed, making Patton's smile faulter. He pulled his feet from the ledge he was facing Patton. "I never want anything to come between that." Patton smiled again, resisting a sigh of relief. He was glad Logan wasn't mad at him for something. He turned to face Logan as well. "Nothing ever could." Patton was entirely confident in that statement as he leaned in slightly.

Logan sighed, looking away to avoid eye contact. "I'm aware." Patton cupped Logan's cheek with his free, gently guiding Logan to look at him. He smiled at Logan. "Then... we have nothing to fear." Logan smiled back at him after a moment. Patton realized what he had done and blushed slightly as they began to lean in unconsciously, closing his eyes.

Just as their lips were about to met, Logan pulled away, letting Patton's hand go. "Fear! The tag was rushed meaning Deceit was terrified of getting caught. That means, if he is still around, he must be planning something." Patton blinked a few times before realizing what Logan was talking, having forgotten all about in favor of kissing Logan. Dang it.

Logan stood up, newly determined to fix the problem after and about to head back downstairs when Patton took hold of his wrist, keeping him in place. "Logan, even if he is, the people of Roman's kingdom said they could handle it." Patton spoke softly. Logan frowned, glaring at Patton with a look that could only be desribed as pure irritation. "If they can handle it, why did we even come here in the first place?"

Logan barked, ripping his arm from Patton's grip. Patton fliched back, he hated when Logan mad at him as he always just wanted to help Logan out but always ended up getting in the way and then stuff like happens. He unconsciously held himself, looking at the ground. "...I thought we were having fun..." Despite all the strange things that had happened, he had enjoyed hanging around the others.

He just loved spending time with his friends, no matter what they were doing. Logan didn't see it like that. He thought if they didn't achieve something then their efforts were wasted. "There's nothing fun about running around, fighting and exploring for no reason like absolute buffoons. We're part of Thomas and protecting him is our only purpose for existing."

Logan looked away from Patton, throwing his arms in the air and huffing from annoyance. "Without us, he'd have nothing, no emotions, no ideas, no common sense and no survival. We can't just take vacations! We don't make mistakes and we certainly don't have time for-" Logan turned back to see Patton looking at him with a hurt expression, shoulders slumped.

"Don't have time for what?" Logan felt his throat close up, preventing him from speaking. His eyes awkwardly shifted away from Patton, not being able to meet the normally cheerful side's eyes. But even if he didn't explain himself, Patton knew what he meant. Logan tried to step away, to go back downstairs and forget what just happened, beginning to walk over to the hatch.

But Patton took hold of his arm before he could. Logan sighed, realizing he'd have to continue to remain there a short while longer. Patton was desperate for Logan to just let go but the logical side was too stubborn for that. "Do we just have to be Thomas' personality? Can't we be capable of nothing else? Can't we not, for a few moments at least, be something more?"

Patton let go of the arm and wandered around him to cup his cheeks once again. Logan swiped the hand away, voice bitter with venom. "There is nothing more. Logic is all I am and if you don't like it-" Patto sighed and took a step back. "Logan, I like that about you... more than you will ever realize." Patton slowly walked backwards before turning to go back to his room. Patton wasn't sad, he couldn't feel anything, just an empty husk.

He wiped the tear from that fell down his face as he left Logan alone like he had first wanted. Logan sighed, watching Patton leave down the stairs. He glanced back to the sky to the sun nowhere to be found, hidden by the gray clouds that showed it would soon rain as if the weather knew that the peace Logan and Patton he shared when the bubbly man had first joined him on the roof was now gone.

His face softened when he realized how cold he had been to Patton, chest constricting in guilt. When he recognized that he was beginning to feel emotions, he quickly shoved them down. He didn't need icky feelings distracting him and he certainly didn't wish he had kissed Patton while he had accompanied him on the rooftop. Oh well, no use dwelling on something so unimportant, he had work to do.

He shallowed his heart before heading back down the stairs.
