Virgil handed the barista the money

"Enjoy your coffee" She smiled, as Virgil turned the girl checked her little timers on her wrist. Nope. Not them.

Who? Their soulmate. They had timers since birth, a count down clock till they meet their soulmate, many don't meet their soulmate until they're old and grey, but that doesn't stop them from searching the world for their soulmate. They all had the same, year then month, date, hour, minute and second, 00:00:00 00:00:00

But Virgil had a problem, his was cracked, this was rare, 1 in every billion people have cracked timers. Virgil was just one of the unlucky ones. A cracked timer was a broken timer, it was blank, one day it had 08:09:21 05:010:09 (in 8 years, 9 months, 21 days, 5 hours, 10 minutes, 9 seconds) for a minute, Virgil was only 15, he thought his timer was fixed, but then it disappeared. Virgil covers his timer with baggy jacket sleeves, he's learnt not to check it, it will just be blank.

He walks through the streets of a busy city, sipping his coffee after another sleep-less night as people sped past. He knocked on his friends, Logan, door. Logan and Virgil moved in together, to split the rent, Patton, Logan's' boyfriend and clock-soulmate, often stayed over, and Patton opened up and let him in.

"Sooooooo, how about it?" Logan asked, "Oh, Virgil, you are back" Logan noticed

"Yup" Virgil said, popping the 'P'

"V, we found this amongst the bills!" Patton held up a letter, on it said 'School Union' with their old school's logo on it

'Oh no, they found it' Virgil thought

"Don't wanna go" Virgil tried to rush off to his room

"Wait, you knew?!" Patton blocked his path

"I. Don't. Want. To go" Virgil glared

"Why not" Logan asked

"It was terrible, you guys might have thought high-school was fun, but it wasn't for me" He pulled his hoodie over his head, the other men new what that meant. 'Leave me alone'

"Ok..." Patton stepped aside. Virgil rushed off to his room

Virgil squirmed in the car seat

"Why did you guys convince me to goooooo" He whined

"Because, you cant miss out on something like this" Patton said, glancing in the mirror

"Eyes on the road" Logan said, not looking from the window

"Nnnnnnnnnnnnnngh" Virgil grunted, sinking lower into his seat.

Soon they were parked outside of their old school. They all pilled out and followed where other ex-students were going. Virgil wanted to see if his 'special spot' was still there, so he shouted out to Patton and Logan, then ran off. Soon he was under a big tree.

"Its smaller than I remember" he muttered and started climbing. Soon he reached the top and sat down in his usual spot, he saw his carved initials, and he reached into the emptied log and pulled out his sketch book.

He smiled as he went through his drawings, they ranged from animals, eyes, his friends to landscapes ... they suddenly darkened to shadows over Virgil's sketched form, monsters chasing him ... but then they suddenly turned to open specific boy, Virgil's heart leapt to his mouth

"After all these years you still have that effect on me" Virgil murmured, page after page had that boy, his childhood crush ... and by the way Virgil's feeling, an adulthood crush.

(Or Patton would say Adu*Virgil clamps my mouth shut* Shuddup)

He flicked through page after page, then he reached the end, sketch book full to the brim of art. He smiled and stuffed it into his pocket

"Good thing I have big pockets" Virgil says, climbing down

"There you are!" Virgil turned around once he was at the bottom and saw Patton rushing towards him, Logan behind him.

"O,oh sorry" he said, Patton took his hand and dragged him to the cafeteria and pointed to their old spot

"OOOOOO REMEMBER THIS!" Patton dashed over to their table and on it was their initials

"Wow, they kept this?" Virgil asked to anyone

"Well, guessing they still don't get enough funding they ... umm ... yeah" Logan started, then saw Virgil's glare, Logan could go on forever if he was allowed.

They walked through the halls, nothing but the sound of footsteps on lino, Virgil sighed contently

"Glad we dragged you here?" Patton giggled, Virgil shrugged.

Beep beep

The three men stopped, they looked at each other, then all eyes were on Virgil, that was the sound of the timer starting. Virgil lifted up his sleeve and looked at his timer

"3 minutes and 52 ... 51 ... 50 ... seconds" Logan said, trying to keep up with the ticking timer

"I,it ... what?" Virgil started hyperventilating

"This is great!" Patton said, then looked serious and looked Virgil dead in the eye

"They're here" Patton said, Virgil took off toward the hall, the sound of talking, music and laughter getting louder, he shot past cabinets of trophies and pictures, their old classrooms and lockers.

'They're here they're here' The words floated around his head

Suddenly his body crashed with someone else's,

"Off" said the red figure

"S,sorry" Virgil said, but then he heard a 'beep beep' But it was two timers instead, both men looked at their timers, they both had 0:0:0 0:0:0

'Better than blank' Virgil thought, then he helped up the man.

"S,sorry..." he said again, he finally saw the mans face and nearly fainted

"R,roman?" Virgil said

"Uhh, yeah? How do you know me ... wait ... Virgil?" Roman said

"Y,yeah, well first off, it's a union, and well ... yeah ... i,its me" Virgil stuttered, the boy he grew up crushing on, but feared to go near him, he was his soulmate ... unbelievable!

Virgil heard feet stampeding towards the two men, they turned and saw Patton and Logan speeding toward them

"VIRGIL! ... Roman? OHMEGOSHITSROMANHIIII!!!!" Patton practically yelled.

"Calm down" Logan said

"Patton! And ........... Liam? No Logan!" Roman instantly recognised the energetic ball of floof, but paused for Logan for a bit

"Yes" he fixed his tie and hair

"This is great! What are the odds!" Patton grinned and elbowed Virgil, the only one that Virgil told Patton his crush. Logan figured it out before Virgil himself even knew.

"Well, they were quite in favour that you would me-uhhhh yeah, I know right" Logan said, Virgil glared at him again.

"Well, heres even greater news" Roman said, lifting his sleeve and pulled Virgils up too. Patton let out a screech

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! OHMEGOSHYOUTOO! ISWEARYOURGONNABETHEDEATHOFMEEE!"

"Roman, what's going on? Oh hello" another man joined the four in the hall,

"Ah, Thomas, these are my other fellow peers" He gestured to the other three

"Oh, Hi" He smiled, waving a bit

"Thomas? ... OH YES THOMAS!" Patton yelled again, he was the social butterfly all through high school, an was that one-kid-that-was-friends-with-everyone, and hugged him

"Ok, now that that's over lets get back to what we were ... discussing ... YOU GUYS ARE SOULMATES AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Patton hugged Roman and Virgil

"What? Really? Wow, isn't that nice Ro" Thomas laughed, poking Roman (once he escaped Patton's death grip ... I mean ... hug)

"Why?" Logan asked, Roman blushed "Oh" Logan simply shrugged

"What? What'd I miss?" Patton asked, looking from one face to another

"Well, for starters ... let's leave them alone" Thomas said, ushering Logan and Patton away from them, towards the party

"Well ... Virgil ... we're all alone ... whatever to say...." Roman said, face beet-red

"Hehe, y,yeah" Virgil stuttered "W,what did Thomas m,mean?"

"I ... uhh ... well ... what that?" Thomas bent down and picked up Virgil's sketch book

'shit, it must've fallen out when we crashed' Virgil swore to himself

"I don't know" Virgil lied very obviously,

"It's yours Virgil, what is it?" He shook it in front of his face, Virgil's name in silver on the spine of it, it was like being back in high school

"Uhh, n,nothing, just ... something I left here ..." Virgil tried to get if from Roman, which was hard, since Roman was a full head and a bit taller than him, Roman opened it above their heads,

"Wow" he gapped at it, Virgil sank to the ground against one of the lockers, hiding in his hoodie.

"These are really good V" Roman said, instantly giving the anxious man a nickname, Virgil heart fluttered

"Really?" he peeked from his dark hoodie

'Wait, THE BACK!' Virgil panicked and jumped for the book, Roman expertly dodged him, without looking from the pages.

"These are to ... oh" Roman face dropped, he got to the 'dark pages' (as Virgil called them) Virgil curled up in a ball against the other wall ('cause he jumped/dove for the book ... yeah?)

"V" Roman muttered and sat down next to him, Virgil peeked between a barely visible gap watching Romans face, sadness, pity, and ... something else

"Oh" He said, eyes wide and face a ... fascinating shade of red, Virgil hid and rolled onto his side on the ground away from him.

"Your very ... talented, they're ... great drawings ... especially with the most handsome man as a subject ... hmmm ... oh" He smiled, he opened a double paged drawing of Roman and Virgil holding hands walking to a sunset inside a heart

"Pleeeeeeeeeeeease" Virgil made a weak attempt to grab it from him, but there was no point, he was nearing the end

"Nuh uh V" The man in red said, getting up and finishing looking through the pages. Once he finished it he dropped it on Virgil.

"So ... you liked ... uhh like? Me?" Roman asked, Virgil didn't move form the curled up position on the ground.

"I uhh ... I like you too...." Roman stated, that got VIrgils attention, his head whipped around

"Y,you do?" He asked, then took Romans outstretched hand and stood up

"Y,yeah ... and it's a bonus we're soulmates" He smirked

"Its ... I still ... it ..." Virgil looked at his timer still 0:0:0 0:0:0

"I know, it was blank ... broken ... but now it ... fixed itself, and just in time too" he winked, everyone knew about his broken Timer, that's half the reason he was bullied.

"C'mon, we've got a party to get to" he laughed and took Virgil's hand as they walked to the hall.
