Chapter Three

Eva

Beep!

Beep!!

Beep!!!

I hear the beeping sound of a heart monitor faintly through my ears as I drifted slowly into consciousness gradually becoming self aware.

My eyes balls dangled around my closed eyelids repeatedly, trying hard to open my eyes. I successfully opened my eyes slowly, wincing at the blinding light of the room as it engulf my eyes.

I was in a hospital room, lying on a bed with my head tied around in a bandage with different strings and wires attached to my body.

All I felt in me was numbness but the numbness slowly disappeared and turned into pain when I realize the reason why I lay down there in the hospital bed.

I had an accident.

I caused it.

I'm the reason why she's dead.

I don't deserve to live.

My breath was shaky. I was at the verge of tears when the door opened immediately. I saw a doctor coming in along side with a woman whom was very familiar to me, Katerina.

She was my mum's close friend. Seeing I don't have any other family to come in for me during emergencies, it wasn't surprising she had to be the one to step in.

The doctor did a little examination on me. Luckily there wasn't any serious damages done on me during the car accident. I just had a few injuries with some dislocations but I had been in coma for about a month now and all my injuries were pretty healed by now.

The doctor took off some wires from my body urging me to rest on assuring me about discharging me from the hospital soon since I'm almost recovered. He blabbed on about some other things before he left the room leaving me alone with Katerina.

"How are you feeling child?" Katerina asked, standing beside my bed.

"Don't call me that." My voiced came out weakly. "I'm not your child."

Katerina is just about the same age with my mum. I wasn't infuriated because she called me child, I was infuriated because of the kind person she is. She wasn't any different from my mum. She also had a hand in my mum's distastefulness towards me.

"Well you better get well soon." She said clearly ignoring my last statement. "You have a lot of work to do after getting discharged."

I looked up at her saggy face. She looks too old for someone in their thirties. Even all the outrageous heavy makeup she had on didn't even hide all the wrinkles dangling across her face.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked in confusion.

"Don't ask me stupid questions, Eva." She sounded annoyed. "You think all the cost for your medical bills came for free or what? You certainly have to pay me back all penny spent on you. Normally I wouldn't want anything to do with you but I thought of my late poor friend, Julia. She is the reason why I even bother. So get well soon and start paying back my money."

I wanted to claw at ugly face so bad but I didn't need to do that. I needed to act mature.

"Don't worry about your money old lady. I'll get a job around and start paying you back bit by bit so long you don't bother me with your stenchy breath." I growled at her.

"Don't worry about getting a job Eva, you're working for me."

"Wait..what?!" I snapped my head at her in shock. "I'm not working in that brothel you run, Katerina. I rather die." I sneered.

Katerina owns a very big and successful bar she runs in the city. The bar's kind of a brothel in disguise. She pimps out girls working under her as a waitress to her disgusting male customers whom are bunch's of horny and perverted animals.

"Really?" Katerina cocked one of her brows up at me mischievously. "Seems like you've forgotten so soon Eva, you have nowhere to go to. So I'm the only one you've got for now."

"No you're not!" I yelled out at her in anger. "I've got a home to go to." That statement tasted bitter in my mouth as I remembered that argument I had with Julia before that accident happened.

"I don't want to go back to that dirty shit hole you call a home Julia, drop me off this instant!"

Memory of that incident came hitting at me hard.

Katerina laugh wickedly for a moment.

"You're barely eighteen Eva. I'm your new guardian which makes you right under me. So you better get it all together, get well quickly and start working for me. And no need to worry, I'll see to it that you're being fed well." She winked at me before walking majestically out of the room slamming the door shut behind with a loud bang, leaving me there laying down on the bed speechless and outraged.

"I will never work for you, Katerina. Never." I mumbled under my breath through gritted teeth.

I'm not the type to sit and watch people throw shits at me, I'm not that kind of person.

And if I really had to beat Katerina, I've really got to act fast. Firstly, I needed to get the hell out of here quickly before she does.
