Chapter 2: Shattered

Kairav Goenka's eyes seemed to cloud over as he thought about love. It was a concept he had once believed in, once thought was the key to happiness.

Kairav's thoughts about his father, Kartik, and his relationships with Naira and Sirat were complex and multifaceted. On the one hand, he had always admired his father's capacity to love, to give himself completely to another person.

Kartik's love for Naira had been all-consuming, and Kairav had grown up watching his father adore his mother, support her, and make her happy.

But then, Naira had passed away, and Kartik had been left to pick up the pieces of his shattered heart. Kairav had seen his father's pain, his grief, and his struggle to come to terms with the loss of the love of his life.

And then, Sirat had come into their lives, and Kartik had found love again. Kairav had been happy for his father, happy to see him smile again, happy to see him find joy in the company of another person.

As he reflected on his father's relationships, Kairav couldn't help but feel a sense of confusion. He admired his father's courage in loving again, but a part of him wondered if it was possible to love two people in different ways.

Was it fair to compare his father's love for Naira to his love for Sirat? Or were they two separate entities, two distinct experiences that couldn't be measured against each other?

As Kairav looked back on his life, he felt grateful to have had both Naira and Sirat in his life. They had each brought their own unique love and light into his world, and had helped shape him into the person he was today. He remembered the way Naira used to make him laugh, the way she used to encourage him to pursue his dreams, and the way she used to always be there for him, no matter what.

He also remembered the way Sirat used to listen to him, the way she used to offer him guidance and wisdom, and the way she used to make him feel seen and heard. Sirat had been a constant presence in his life, a steady source of comfort and support, and Kairav was grateful for the time they had shared together.

Naira, like Devaki Maa, had been the embodiment of motherly love, nurturing Kairav with care and devotion. Sirat, like Yashoda Maiya, had brought a sense of warmth and comfort to his life, filling his world with joy and laughter.

Together, they had painted Kairav's life with vibrant colours, creating a masterpiece of love, happiness, and adventure. But with their departure, the colours had faded, leaving behind a dull and empty canvas.

Kairav's heart was now a canvas of grey, a reflection of the sadness and longing that had taken over his life. The memories of Naira and Sirat still lingered, a bittersweet reminder of the happiness they had brought into his world.

Their absence had drained the colour from his life, leaving behind a hollow sense of emptiness. The laughter, the tears, the moments of joy and sorrow - all had become a distant memory, a reminder of a life that once was, but was no more.

Just as Kairav was trying to come to terms with the loss of Naira and Sirat, Kritika entered his life, bringing with her a ray of sunshine and hope. She was like a breath of fresh air, filling his life with laughter, joy, and excitement.

For a while, it seemed as though the colours had returned to his life, and he was once again surrounded by the vibrant hues of happiness.

But that was before his first love, Kritika, had left him standing alone at the altar, her absence a gaping wound that had never fully healed.

The pain of that day still lingered, a constant reminder of the fragility of love. Kairav had thought that he and Kritika were meant to be, that their love was strong enough to overcome any obstacle. But in the end, it had been just a fleeting dream, a momentary lapse of reason.

Kritika's rejection had been a brutal blow, one that had left Kairav reeling. He had given her his heart, his everything, and she had crushed it beneath her feet. The memories of their time together still haunted him, the laughter, the tears, the whispers of forever. But it had all been a lie, a cruel joke played on his heart.

Kairav's heart had become a fortress, surrounded by walls that he thought were impenetrable. He had built them brick by brick, using the pain and betrayal of his past as the mortar that held them together. He had convinced himself that love was just a myth, a fairy tale that only existed in the minds of the naive and the weak.

He had thrown himself into his work, using the distraction to numb the pain of his past. The long hours, the endless meetings, and the constant pressure had become his escape, his way of avoiding the emotions that he didn't want to feel. He had become a master of hiding behind his mask of confidence and success, never letting anyone see the vulnerability that lay beneath.

Kairav had also made himself believe that he wasn't as lucky as his papa, Kartik. He had grown up watching his father's love story with Naira and Sirat, and he had always felt like he couldn't measure up. He had convinced himself that he wasn't worthy of the kind of love that his father had experienced, that he was somehow flawed or defective.

This belief had become a self-fulfilling prophecy, as Kairav had begun to sabotage his own relationships and push people away before they could get too close. He had become a loner, content to spend his days and nights alone, surrounded by the walls that he had built around his heart.

It was a moment of raw emotion, one that Kairav had been holding back for years. As he stood at Mimi's birthday celebration, surrounded by the people he loved, he couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions.

The news of Aarohi's wedding to Abhimanyu Birla had hit him like a ton of bricks, and for the first time in years, he had let his guard down and expressed his true feelings.

as he looked at Aarohi, his baby sister, and thought about her marrying Abhimanyu Birla, a man he considered to be a monster, Kairav's emotions had boiled over. He had always been protective of Aarohi, and the thought of her being with someone who didn't deserve her was unbearable.

For a moment, Kairav had forgotten about his own pain and heartache, and had let his love and concern for Aarohi take over.

He had spoken from the heart, expressing his true feelings and concerns about the wedding. It was a moment of vulnerability, one that he hadn't experienced in a long time.

As he looked back on that moment, Kairav realized that it was a turning point for him. It was a reminder that he still had the capacity to feel deeply, to love and care for those around him. It was a reminder that he didn't have to be alone, that he could let people in and trust them with his emotions.

The memories of that fateful day still haunted Kairav. The sound of screeching tires, the crunching of metal, and the shattering of glass was etched in his mind like a scar. He remembered the feeling of weightlessness, the sensation of being suspended in mid-air, as his car careened out of control.

The airbag had deployed, but it was too late. Kairav's body had already taken the brunt of the impact, and he felt himself being thrown back against the seat. His eyes had closed, and the darkness had closed in around him, like a shroud.

The silence that followed was eerie, a stark contrast to the chaos that had preceded it. The only sounds were the creaking of twisted metal, the hissing of steam, and the distant wail of sirens. Kairav's car was a mangled mess, a testament to the devastating force of the collision.

As he lay motionless, his fate hanging precariously in the balance, Kairav's mind had flashed back to all the people he loved. He thought of his family, his friends, and the life he had built. He thought of all the things he still wanted to do, all the experiences he still wanted to have.

. Kairav's world had gone dark, the only sensation the feeling of his body being thrown back, his head snapping forward.

He had tried to cry out, but his voice had been lost in the chaos. As the darkness closed in around him, Kairav had felt a sense of disorientation, his mind struggling to process what was happening.

He had been driving, and then...and then everything had gone black. The next thing Kairav knew, he was being lifted, his body being moved. He tried to open his eyes, but they felt heavy, unresponsive.

He was aware of voices, distant and muffled, but he couldn't make out what they were saying.Someone was shouting, "Call an ambulance! We need to get him to the hospital, now!" The words were urgent, panicked, and Kairav felt a sense of fear rising up within him.

He tried to move, to struggle, but his body felt like lead, unresponsive. He was being carried, lifted into the air, and he felt a sense of weightlessness, of floating. The voices grew louder, more insistent, and Kairav felt himself being placed on a hard surface.

He tried to open his eyes again, but they still wouldn't budge.A face appeared above him, a blur of features, and a voice said, "Sir, can you hear me? We're going to get you to the hospital, okay?"Kairav tried to respond, but his voice was barely a whisper.

He felt a sense of panic rising up within him, a sense of desperation. He was trapped, unable to move, unable to escape.

The face disappeared, and Kairav was left alone with his thoughts. He was aware of the sound of sirens, growing louder, and the feeling of movement, of being carried away.

The darkness closed in around him again, and Kairav felt himself being pulled under, down into a deep, abyssal void. He was aware of nothing, no sound, no sensation, just the feeling of being lost, of being alone. And then, everything went black.

.............

"Hello?" Akshara picked up the phone, her voice laced with a mix of anxiety and trepidation. She had been on edge since Kairav had stormed out of the house after his argument with Aarohi, and she had been trying to reach him for hours.

But he hadn't answered her calls, and she had been left to wonder what was going on. As she heard the stranger's voice on the other end of the line, her tension turned to dread. "What..." she started to say, but her voice trailed off as she felt her world ending.

"Akshu, what happened?" he asked, his voice gentle but insistent. He placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, but Akshara barely registered the touch.

Akshara's eyes widened in horror, her face pale and clammy. She tried to speak, but the words caught in her throat. "Bade Papa..." she stammered, her voice barely audible. Her eyes darted wildly around the room, as if searching for an escape from the nightmare that was unfolding.

Manish's expression turned grim, his eyes filled with a sense of foreboding. "Akshu, beta, what is it?" he pressed, his voice gentle but insistent. He took the phone from her hand, his eyes scanning the room for any signs of what was wrong.

Akshara took a deep breath, the words tumbling out of her mouth in a rush. "Bhai... accident!" she exclaimed, her voice cracking with emotion. The room around her began to spin, and she felt herself crumbling to the ground, Manish's arms catching her just in time.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, but it was no use. She was beyond consolation, beyond comfort. She was in a state of panic, and she didn't know how to get out of it.

She felt like she was trapped in a never-ending nightmare, and she didn't know how to wake up. All she could do was wait, wait for news, wait for updates, wait for Kairav to come back to her. And as she waited, she felt like her world was ending, like everything she knew and loved was being torn apart.

The phone felt like it was slipping out of her hands, and Akshara had to force herself to hold on. She was shaking, her body trembling with fear and anxiety. She felt like she was going to collapse, like she was going to fall to the ground and never get up.

But she knew she had to be strong, for Kairav, for her family, for herself. She took another deep breath, trying to calm herself down, trying to think of what she needed to do next. She needed to get to the hospital, to be with Kairav, to make sure he was okay. She needed to be strong, to be brave, to face whatever

As Akshara heard the news of Kairav's accident, she felt a chill run down her spine. The memories of losing her own mothers, Naira and sirat, and her father, Kartik, came flooding back, and she was transported to a place of pain and grief that she thought she had long left behind.

The thought of losing someone she loved again, especially her own brother, was almost too much to bear. Akshara's mind was racing with worst-case scenarios, and she couldn't shake off the feeling of dread that had settled in the pit of her stomach.

She remembered the day she lost Sirat mumma, and how it had felt like her whole world had come crashing down. She had been so young, so innocent, and so dependent on her mother's love and care.

The pain of losing her had been like a knife to the heart, and Akshara had thought that she would never be able to heal from it.And then, just when she thought that things couldn't get any worse, she had lost her father, Kartik, too.

The grief had been overwhelming, and Akshara had felt like she was drowning in a sea of sadness. Now, as she heard about Kairav's accident, Akshara felt like she was reliving those moments all over again.

The fear, the anxiety, and the uncertainty were all too familiar, and she couldn't help but wonder if she was going to lose another person she loved.Akshara's eyes welled up with tears as she thought about Kairav, her brother, her friend, and her confidant. She remembered the way he used to make her laugh,  the way he used to protect her, and the way he used to be there for her whenever she needed him.

The thought of losing him was unbearable, and Akshara felt like she was going to collapse under the weight of her emotions. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, but it was no use. The memories of losing her parents were still too raw, too painful, and too fresh in her mind.

"Aaru bhai!" Akshara's voice was laced with a mix of urgency and concern, and it immediately caught Aarohi's attention. Aarohi was still trying to process the argument she had with Kairav, and her heart was heavy with emotions.

She had been trying to distract herself by taking care of her six-year-old daughter Roohi, who was currently playing with her toys on the floor, but Akshara's call had brought her back to reality.

Aarohi's mind was still reeling from the argument she had with Kairav earlier. She had said some things she couldn't take back, and now she was feeling guilty and anxious about how he was doing. She had been trying to reach out to him, but he wasn't answering her calls or messages. The not knowing was killing her, and she couldn't shake off the feeling that she had hurt him deeply.

As she heard Akshara's voice, Aarohi's heart skipped a beat. What could be wrong? Had something happened to Kairav? Was he okay? The thought of losing her brother, or him being hurt, was unbearable. Aarohi's eyes began to well up with tears as she thought about the argument they had, and how she had hurt him.

She quickly got up from the floor, where she was sitting with Roohi, and walked to the other room to answer Akshara's call. "Akshu?" Aarohi's voice was tentative, and she could sense that something was wrong. She felt a lump form in her throat as she waited for Akshara to respond.

"Akshu, what's wrong?" Aarohi asked again, her voice shaking slightly. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, and her palms were getting sweaty. She was trying to prepare herself for the worst, but she wasn't sure if she was ready to handle it.

As she waited for Akshara to respond, Aarohi's mind was racing with worst-case scenarios. Had Kairav gotten into an accident? Was he hurt? The thought of losing her brother, or him being hurt, was unbearable. She felt like she was going to collapse under the weight of her emotions.

"Akshu, please tell me what's wrong," Aarohi begged, her voice cracking with emotion. She was trying to stay strong, but she couldn't help the tears that were streaming down her face. She felt like she was going to lose her brother, and the thought was too much to bear.

As she waited for Akshara's response, Aarohi felt like time was standing still. She was trapped in a nightmare, and she couldn't wake up. The only thing she could do was wait, and hope that Kairav was okay. But as the seconds ticked by, Aarohi's anxiety grew, and she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was terribly wrong.
