Same Old Song

"I knew that you'd linger like a stolen kiss
I knew you'd haunt all of my my what-ifs
The smell of smoke would hang around this long
Cause I knew everything when I was young
I knew I'd curse you for the longest time
I knew I'd wish you would have changed your mind
I knew you'd miss me once the moment died
I knew to love would be to lose my mind."

~ Taylor Swift

Ophelia Aeneas the daughter of one of the most influential families in the Capital is one of the top top students in the Academy. Though being a top student with an expected bright future does not make a girl any less foolish or naive. It isn't until Ophelia is assigned to mentor a young tribute from District 2 for the 10th annual Hunger Games that she becomes aware of the true cruelty of the world.

But she she learns her lessons far too late. Because it is impossible to see the true colors of someone you love until they have destroyed you.

Author's Note: Let me start of by saying the this book and movie absolutely stuck me more than the original series did. Because wow it was brilliant, and it absolutely inspired me to do this. Let me start of by saying that if you're looking for romance then this is not the book for you. This is not a love story, and this does not romanticize Snow or anything he had done. He will not be redeemed or painted as a better person. Ophelia might also be a character that you do not entirely like, and that is okay because that is how I chose to write her. She is a Capitol citizen after all, she is not perfect. This is also connected to my other Finnick Odair story, Echoes of Silence, the order that you read them doesn't really matter though this story will be referenced in the other. Hope you all enjoy even if this isn't the happiest of stories.

Disclaimer: I do not take any credit for any of the brilliant characters or storylines in A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes that all belongs to Suzanne Collins. I do however own Opehelia and any other original characters and storylines that I have added.

Trigger Warnings: This book does include violence, death, sexual content and explicit language. If you are sensitive to any of these topics please proceed with caution.
