3| It's Not Fate, It's Destiny
☆ DESTINY ☆
"Nah, bro, I'm tellin' you, tonight is going to be lit," Sekani whispered to Kiandre. "This nightclub is going to be off the hook! We seriously can't miss it."
Sekani was talking to Kiandre in the far distance, with Destiny clandestinely watching them behind a clothes rack.
She had just discovered kind of recently that Kiandre was at the shops with his cousin Sekani, & obviously, because the girl couldn't actually talk to him yet:
A) because Sekani was there and
B) Destiny couldn't even talk to Kiandre properly anyway, whether people were with him or not
She therefore decided to hide behind somewhere, contemplating talking to Kiandre when the time was right.
Oh god, why does Sekani have to be here? Destiny thought to herself in annoyance. He's so annoying.
It was clear that the two of them didn't get along. They didn't, more than anything. Destiny's thoughts had revealed everything.
The reason that they hadn't gotten along (most of the time anyway) was mainly because Destiny was the reason Sekani had gotten an F in his science project the other day.
Sekani had worked so dang hard for his science project, only for Destiny to accidentally ruin it by toppling over a Bunsen Burner that was on.
Even though it was by accident, Sekani had truly believed that it was on purpose. This was exactly two years ago though, with Sekani & Destiny being sworn enemies since.
He had even moved down a set in science. He was so pissed at Destiny that he forced Kiandre to block her on his phone and never speak to her again, but Kiandre refused.
Sekani was light skinned, & his hair was in high top braids. How him and Kiandre were cousins, Destiny didn't know, as they weren't even the same race to begin with.
Kiandre was from California, but Sekani was from South Korea. He was half Korean and half Egyptian. His father was Korean but his mother was Egyptian. Sekani also had nice hazel eyes, almost perfect teeth and freckles everywhere.
Today, him & Kiandre were nearly wearing the same thing to be honest: navy sleeveless hoodie, a white long sleeved top with their name on it in neon rainbow writing, jeans and trainers.
Kiandre was wearing jeans.
Sekani on the other hand was wearing tracksuit bottoms, because Kiandre truly believed that wearing a tracksuit outside (unless jogging or anything similar) was unholy, goodness knew why.
"No offence, Sekani but Same Difference is an 18+ nightclub," Kiandre reminded him. "You're only sixteen, you can't go."
Good. I don't want him to go, he's so jarring, Destiny thought to herself in the far distance, hiding behind the clothes rack so much, hoping that neither Sekani or Kiandre would have seen her.
"Yeah I know but, I look eighteen, right?" Sekani scoffed, holding his sleeveless hoodie with both hands and turning around.
Sekani really didn't look eighteen, he was like two foot one.
Except not really.
He was five foot seven, but he had that baby face, that face that had made him look younger than he actually was.
Kiandre didn't say anything much, just rolled his eyes comically before muttering you've got to be kidding me under his breath, which then led to a conversation about what Kiandre was going to wear to the nightclub tonight.
They were right in front of the clothes rack, the one that was located opposite Destiny, and Sekani was currently picking out clothes that he believed his cousin Kiandre would have liked.
"Whoa, this is nice!" Sekani brought out a jersey jacket that was red and blue- the red bit was on the left and the blue bit was on the right.
On the red bit was ice, and on the blue bit was neon fire. Sekani put the jacket near Kiandre and smiled, before saying anything else.
"This would totally suit you, fam! And it kinda matches with the name of the nightclub: Same Difference."
He wasn't wrong.
Whilst red represented ice on the jacket, blue represented heat instead. Sadly, Kiandre didn't really like the jacket, he did, but he just couldn't afford the dang thing.
He didn't even say that, as he didn't want Sekani to perceive him as being broke. He just stated that he didn't like the jacket, but Sekani did not take this well at all.
"You don't like the jacket?! Have you got no fashion sense at all? What the heck is wrong with you, bro?"
Kiandre sighed.
He didn't even want to be there in the first place. Sekani forced him to be there, and his sister Kassandra (who was Kiandre's sister, not Sekani's, but more on her later).
"Look, we all have different opinions, Sekani," he answered in annoyance. "And do I even have to go to the nightclub anyway? Why can't I just stay at home and read the bible."
"I've got nothin' against that, bro," Sekani replied, surrendering by putting his hands up. "But you've got to know when to have fun sometimes, you know what I'm saying?"
Kiandre did know what he was saying, but he didn't really care about what he was saying.
He just wanted to read his Bible at home by himself... was that too much to ask?
Shrugging to himself, Kiandre just looked away, wishing he was somewhere else apart from Richard Gold right now.
Richard Gold was the name of the shop they were in right now and it was the most expensive shop in the history of shops.
Sekani clicked his fingers unexpectedly as though he had just thought of something before smiling to himself as he had said his next sentence.
"Yo, bro, you can just read your Bible at the Same Difference nightclub!"
Nuh-uh.
Ain't gonna happen, bro.
Ain't gonna happen.
"You've got to be kiddin' me, Sekani. I am not reading my Bible in some silly nightclub. I don't really like reading it in loud places. I feel like I'm disrespecting God that way."
No wonder Destiny had fancied Kiandre so much. He was so religious. Guys like that were hard to find nowadays.
Always marry someone the same religion as you, sis, Destiny's sister Priscilla had told her the other day, when both of them were doing the garden. Destiny had just told her sister that she had a crush on Kiandre, and surprisingly, Priscilla was actually very happy about this.
If you don't marry someone the same religion as you, you might have to change religion because of them. Not sayin' that this will happen... but I don't want that for you, boo.
For some reason, Destiny's mother wanted her to marry someone religious.
Was Destiny going to?
She hadn't thought about it yet, but she knew better than to go against her parents' wishes, even if some of them were kinda over the top.
No, Destiny wasn't going to marry Kiandre... although it could have been a possibility. She could have put it in her to do list for the future.
To marry Kiandre.
Sekani and Kiandre were still searching for what Kiandre was going to wear to Same Difference tonight, as like Destiny, his clothes weren't exactly the best either.
Why does he have to buy new clothes? Destiny thought to herself. He looks good in everything he wears!
"A tuxedo?" Sekani yelled. "You must be having a laugh! I ain't lettin' my cousin wear that to Same Difference tonight."
Then Kiandre kinda yelled back at Sekani, telling the guy that he was under age, so he couldn't go to the nightclub even if he wanted to, and once again: everybody had different opinions.
Destiny had been watching them the whole time, because she desperately wanted to talk to Kiandre (without making a fool of herself), but she couldn't really do that when Sekani was there.
She kinda got in trouble as well, as one of the staff members saw her and decided to make a comment at her.
Then a series of misfortunate events had happened afterwards.
"Ahem."
Destiny looked up, where a man with dark hair, a black & white tuxedo and sunglasses was staring down at her, and he wasn't very happy, at all.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Uhm...
Destiny needed to come up with an excuse and fast, the staff member was starting to become more suspicious each time she wasn't saying anything.
When Destiny told him that she was admiring the clothes, the staff member rudely told her to go and do it somewhere else, as she was blocking the way where staff members needed to go to get deliveries people had made online.
Then the worst thing had happened.
The clothes rack that Destiny was hiding behind to spy on Kiandre (& Sekani too for that matter) must have been crazy unstable or something because the next thing Destiny knew, the clothes rack had toppled over.
And it was like a domino effect because pretty much everything next to it had toppled over too, including some of the plastic mannequins as well.
Even though everything was an honest accident, the staff member didn't want to hear it. He literally yelled at Destiny to leave the shop, and he wasn't having any mercy on her.
"Get out the shop. Right now!"
"But it was an accident!"
"I don't care- leave!"
So Destiny had listened to him. She didn't want to, but she had still done so anyway.
And it had turned out that she didn't need to start the conversation with Kiandre anyway, because Kiandre had actually done it for her.
Both him and Sekani had watched Destiny get yelled at just now by the staff member (apparently he was Richard Gold), but neither of them actually knew it was Destiny.
Until now.
"Destiny, is that you?"
She sighed.
She really wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone at all...
..But hey. This was Kiandre, Destiny loved Kiandre, so she would have happily talked to him.
Hang on, is Kiandre calling my name?
Yes, baby. Yes.
There aren't any other Destinies here, are there? Destiny thought to herself, her heart racing that her crush was calling her.
Hopefully.
And no, there wasn't another Destiny in the shop. That would have been crazy embarrassing for Destiny, the real Destiny, if there was.
Kiandre called her again, but Destiny didn't reply as she was too busy thinking about if Kiandre had actually called her not.
"Look, bro, she ain't in the mood to talk to you," Sekani realised. "Can't believe I'm saying this but stop bothering her and leave her alone."
"No. I'm Kiandre, everyone's always in the mood to talk to me. And if they ain't, I'll just make them talk to me."
Don't get cocky, Kiandre.
He had called Destiny's name one more time for her to hear, but when she didn't reply again, Kiandre had kind of started to become concerned.
"Is that even Destiny?"
"Nah, bro," Sekani said, rolling his eyes. He hated Destiny to bits, so obviously Kiandre calling her so much made him sick in the head. "It's not Destiny. It's fate."
"It's not fate, it's Destiny."
But just because Destiny looked like Destiny didn't necessarily mean that she was Destiny.
If that had made sense.
Eventually, Destiny turned around, facing both Kiandre and Sekani. She called Kiandre's name, coming closer to him, praying that she wouldn't have made a downright fool of herself like she had always done when she was around him.
Knowingly or unknowingly.
"Knew it was you. What are you doing here?"
Thank God he didn't ask her what had taken her so long to reply, as Destiny was not ready to answer that question.
Destiny didn't know what to say- she did know what to say... but she just didn't say it. She had just said something else.
"What are you doing here?"
Aye, aye, aye.
This was going to be a long day.
Jesus Christ, Destiny, why did you answer Kiandre's question by literally asking him the same question?
When Sekani had realised what she had said, he just facepalmed himself in downright annoyance.
"He had asked you the question first, ya dingbat, so therefore answer the question first!"
Kiandre and Destiny both shot Sekani dirty looks at the same time, with Kiandre muttering how he should have been nice to her under his breath, otherwise he would have told his parents that he was trying to sneak off to an underage nightclub.
"Why should I be nice to the girl that gave me an F in my science project two years ago?"
This guy was seriously ticking Destiny off right now & she was most certainly not going down without a fight.
"You said it yourself, that was two years ago!" She hollered. "And volcanoes are kinda overrated anyway, no disrespect. I was doing you a favour."
Sekani just stared at her.
In fact, screw the no disrespect comment, Sekani had deserved all the disrespect he could get. He was so jarring sometimes, honestly.
How did Kiandre tolerate him?
"It was an accident."
"Yeah. Accidentally on purpose!"
Kiandre told both of them to calm down before things had gotten worse, before apologising on Sekani's behalf that he could have been annoying sometimes.
Yeah, no kidding.
Then Kiandre had asked Destiny if she was at the shop by herself, but Destiny couldn't stop saying and elongating the word 'Uhm' to him.
"What's wrong?" Sekani jeered. "You can't speak? Answer the question, you idiot!"
Destiny just told him to shut up.
She was not in the mood, especially for Sekani.
"What the heck cuz, are you just gonna let her disrespect me like that?"
Kiandre nodded, before telling him that he deserved it.
"This is totally whack! I'm going to find Kassandra... at least she appreciates me!"
Then he went off to do as he said he would.
"Good riddance!"
"I second that," Destiny added smiling, but Sekani had just given her the dirtiest look in the world.
Then he had given her the I'm watching you signal, before heading off to find Kassandra, not that Kiandre and Destiny had cared much as they were fully immersed into their own conversation to care or notice that Sekani was gone in the first place.
