21| You Just Messed Up With Your Destiny

DESTINY

"Yo, Kazenosuke!" Esmeralda called, so loud that she could have potentially waken up the dead. "I hope you ain't got nothin' on your schedule or anything, 'cause I'm challenging you to a BlackJack match right now."

Kazenosuke was chilling with about five of his homies on the table right in front of him, and he had just finished the half dreadful, half good BlackJack match with Kerazin.

Whilst Kerazin had gone off to talk to Kiandre & Sekani about something, Kazenosuke in the meantime had just stayed where he was because he couldn't be bothered to leave.

Kiandre was just too far.

Kazenosuke couldn't have been bothered to walk all the way there.

Actually, he was only like ten steps away but Kazenosuke was just kinda lazy like that.

He was chatting to his crew about which girls in the nightclub had looked the hottest- that was until Esmeralda had come to the scene with Janette, demanding Kazenosuke for a BlackJack match.

Without Kazenosuke's consent, Esmeralda had then sat down on the long razzmatazz coloured sofa located right opposite Kazenosuke, Kazenosuke just staring at her like she was a crazy person or something.

"You? BlackJack?" He repeated, before kissing his teeth. "Look, I ain't got time for no games, man."

"Esmeralda, this is a bad idea.."

"Shut up, Janette!"

Janette in the far distance who didn't really want to follow Esmeralda but had still done so anyway (because the girl hadn't really taken it well when her friends had said no to her) just rolled her eyes before walking off.

In the meantime, Esmeralda was deeply staring Kazenosuke down kinda like she wanted to hurt him or something, before literally shouting something at him again.

"And why's that, huh? Why don't you wanna verse me?" She had risen up from the sofa she was sitting on again, literally banging both of her hands on the table.

"'Cause I'm a girl, huh? 'Cause I'm black? What? You misogynistic now? You racist now?"

Kazenosuke wasn't black but he was an ethnic minority as well, so why Esmeralda was acting like Kazenosuke was being unfair towards her, Kazenosuke didn't know.

Oohing and aahing went across the room, and some of the people that weren't involved before had started to be involved now.

Kazenosuke didn't even reply to her though, he had just smiled to himself, with his yellow teeth showing and everything.

Yeah, the guy smoked, which was probably why his teeth were yellow so much. He practically had tooth decay.

Kazenosuke had absolutely hated dentists, and the last time the dude had been to one was like two hundred centuries ago now.

He hated them that much.

Esmeralda had realised he was smiling so much, so she couldn't help but to wonder why this might have been the case.

"Why you smiling?" She demanded.

"So it's a crime to smile now?" Kazenosuke fumed. "And no, I ain't no racist, or whatever the other word means," Misogynistic meant strongly prejudiced against women. "But I am a thug, and I can mess you up if you ain't careful."

He came up closer to her too, staring her down even more, giving her the dirtiest look of all time.

This guy rarely smiled.

But then again, Esmeralda should have known better than to mess with him.

In fact, Janette had even warned her and told her that she was playing herself, but Esmeralda didn't listen, she wanted to win this argument.

Heck, was it even an argument?

They weren't even shouting or yelling at each other.

Esmeralda was yelling at Kazenosuke, but Kazenosuke was replying to her back in the most expressionless way possible.

So if it wasn't an argument then...

Esmeralda wanted to win the conversation, and she wasn't going to let anyone stop her.

"Look, if I were you, and I'm glad that I ain't 'cause that is some dusty old outfit, I wouldn't get on my bad side. You understand that?"

Yes. Esmeralda understood that.

But she didn't care, she had still demanded Kazenosuke for a match anyway.

By now, everyone around them was chanting 'verse her' continuous times, which Kazenosuke didn't mind because he had liked the attention he was getting at first...

But then after a while, things had started to get a too much so Kazenosuke was starting to resent everybody surrounding him for it.

"Enough, y'all," Kazenosuke deadpanned after about twenty seconds of everyone kinda pressuring him to verse Esmeralda even though he didn't want to.

"Look, I ain't versing this chick even if she was the last person on Earth. Screw y'all, man. Imma find Kiandre."

So was Kiandre like the go to person that people went to when they were annoyed or upset over something?

Because he honestly didn't deserve it, after rejecting such a fine goddess like Destiny.

Either way, Kazenosuke had stayed true to his word, and he had actually gone to find Kiandre & Kerazin.

In the meantime, Esmeralda wanted to know if she had won the so called 'argument' between them, with Janette yelling at her to stop wasting her time.

**********

"So how did things go between you and Destiny?" Kerazin wanted to know. "Apparently y'all had met each other at Richard Gold earlier today? What happened?"

Kerazin was chilling with Kazenosuke and Sekani opposite where Kazenosuke was talking (and kinda arguing) with Esmeralda, with Kerazin sitting on top of the sofa whilst Kiandre & Sekani were both sitting down on it.

Like normal people.

No, Kiandre hadn't any of told his homies that he had rejected Destiny, because he knew how close they all were to Destiny, so therefore he didn't want anyone yelling at him over the seemingly stupid decision he had made of friendzoning her.

Even though Kiandre hadn't exactly told Kerazin himself that he had kindly (and debatably) friendzoned Destiny, Sekani had done it for him anyway, and as Kiandre had suspected...

...When Kerazin had heard the news.

He wasn't very happy about this at all.

"Dude! You rejected Destiny? Why the hell would you do something like that?"

"That's what I'm sayin', fam!" Sekani holler-agreed, high fiving Kerazin. "I tried telling him he made a mistake but he ain't listenin'."

Kiandre just frowned really, he was too annoyed at Sekani to actually say anything.

In fact, after Sekani had said what he had said, he had mercilessly kicked him underneath the table, mainly as a warning to not get on his bad side, but he did.

He really did.

And Kiandre wasn't OK with it.

"What is wrong with you?" Kiandre had whispered to his younger cousin when Kerazin wasn't really paying attention. "Tell anyone the news one more time and I'll tell Ephraim and/or Zainab that you're underage."

"Chill, bro. It's not that deep, honestly," Sekani replied back. "And if you ever consider doing that, then I'll just tell everyone that Destiny had rejected you instead, and not the other way around."

Kiandre had fallen silent at that.

Sekani was good.

But he wasn't going to let his annoying cousin, let alone his younger cousin just take advantage of him like that.

"But you can't really do that, because everyone knows I rejected Destiny anyway."

"Oh nooo, not everyone," Sekani corrected him, kinda smiling at him. He couldn't really smile properly, he sucked at it. That was what the dude had gotten for being in a foul mood for half of his life.

"And you know I'm a convincing liar, so I wouldn't even think about messing with me."

Sekani was right though, he was a pretty convincing liar.

Like the other day, he had slyly convinced his parents that he had gotten 80% in his Maths test even though he had gotten eighteen instead.

Sekani had absolutely hated Maths, and he had never ever studied for it, let alone for tests in general.

Either way, Sekani had completely yet surprisingly gotten away with the lie for about ten days.. until his parents had found out.

And had grounded him for lying as well as failing his test too.

"Just why, bro? Why would you reject Destiny?" Kerazin went on and on and on about this, but for some reason, Kiandre didn't really seem to mind because Kerazin was pretty chill.

"In a room full of bad girls, Destiny's just that angel ascending from Heaven, you know what I mean?"

"That's literally what I said earlier!"

"Is it? If that's the case then great minds think alike."

"I'm tellin' you!"

Kerazin and Sekani had then fist bumped each other again, with Kiandre thinking of a logical reason as to why he had rejected Destiny.

"I just didn't feel the same way, I guess. Is that a crime now?" Kiandre confessed candidly. "And hey, at least I told the truth, right? Would you guys rather have had me lie to Destiny? And what the heck, man? I thought that all of y'all had my backs, clearly not."

Kiandre had actually looked really dejected now, and both Kerazin and Sekani had kinda figured that they had messed up.

In fact they had even stared at each other for a while (like ten seconds) until Kerazin had emotionlessly winked at Sekani, causing Sekani to nod at him and put his arm around Kiandre.

"Look, bro, we do have your backs but just 'cause I'm your cousin and Kerazin's one of your best friends doesn't necessarily mean that we have to agree with everything you do and say."

"Yeah, K," Kerazin added, coming closer to him. "You know Sekani and I meant no harm. We're just kinda surprised as to why you would have rejected Destiny. She seemed perfect for you. But on a real level though: you just messed up with your destiny."

Yeah.

Destiny had seemed perfect for Kiandre.

But that hadn't actually meant that she was perfect for Kiandre, because she wasn't.

Was she?

Kiandre didn't even know anymore. He was becoming too tired to think straight now. Destiny was driving him insane.

Even if she was perfect for him, Kiandre wasn't even allowed to be in a relationship anyway until university, and neither was Destiny.

It was still the summer holiday.

If they had ended up in different universities and they were in a relationship right now then that would have caused some serious problems.

Long distance had worked but even then, it wasn't really all of the time.

Another reason why he had rejected her in the first place besides having unrequited feelings for the girl was because he had been hurt before, and he didn't want anyone to hurt him again.

Which was kinda stupid actually, as Kiandre had just hurt Destiny by rejecting her, but still. He didn't want to rush anything, he would have rather focused on his studies.

"Thanks guys, and sorry for lashing out at you, Sekani. But honestly, and I mean it, if anyone talks about Destiny again, I will freak out."

That was when two of Kiandre's homies again (aka his friends Trevor and Kazenosuke), had walked into the scene, Trevor pretty much ruining everything for him.

"Yo!" Trevor shouted, having no idea what was going on. "Have y'all seen what Destiny's wearing? She looks hot! So hot that it's not even funny."

Nah, Dave East ain't Asian, but just pretend he is for the sake of this book. And I love Destiny's name. I can literally make so many puns out of it.
