"Good morning bachonnn....", Naina sprinkled water on Preeti and Swati to wake them up. "NAINAA", both shouted in unison. "Kya hai yeh? sone kyu nahi de rahi." "Come on my darlings. 8 baj chuka hai, aur kitna sona, kaam par nahi jaana kya?". "Ek he din mila tha sone ke liye. Warna Arun raat bhar sone nahi deta." Preeti said yawning. Chuckling, Naina started folding the blankets, "Preeti aur swati tumhare liye ek suprise hai." "Kaisa suprise", Preeti asked rubbing her eyes. "My special coffee, I know tum dono isse miss kiye honge. Right?", she pointed at the bedside table, where two coffee cups were placed. "Hayee kitne saalon baad tumhare haat ki coffee. Man kar raha hai ki roz aisa he koi bed coffee le aaye", Preeti sipped the coffee with a smile. "Toh Pandit ko bol dena." " Pandit? Rehne do. Agar woh sootha hai na toh khumbkaran ki tarah soota hai. Roz ek jang ladni padti hai usse uthane." "Accha tum dono suno. Aaj mein apni apartment ko set karne jaa rahi hoon aur tum dono 3 baje pohunch jaana. Philhal mujhe office ke liye nikalna hai. So bye", Naina said picking up her bag and hugging her two friends before leaving.

"Maam Mr. Srikant ka phone aya tha, unhone kaha ki woh woh nikhal chuke hai bas kuch he der main pohunchte he honge", Naina nodded acknowledging what her assistant said. "Maam aap bura na mane toh kya main aapse ek sawal pooch sakti hoon." "Hai poocho." "Maam saare deals ko shuru se lekar end tak aap khud handle karti hai toh phir iss bar apne mujhse kyu kaha Mr. Maheshwari se merger ki baat chalane." "Lavina aisi koi baat nahi. Woh bas aise he maine keh diya tumse. Aur yeh Vinod kaha reh gaya usse pata hai na ki aaj 9 baje ka meeting hai Mr. Maheshwari ke saath." "Haan maam unhe pata hai."
"Here I am." A man in his late twenties, dressed in formals, entered the room with a huge grin on his face. "Wow Vinod how punctual", Naina glared at him. "Naina it's 8:50 now meeting 9 baje ko hai right?" "Hai par usse pehle main tumhare saath discuss karna chahti hoon." "Abhi bhi discuss kar sakthi ho. We still have ten minutes to go. Lavina get me an expresso. Hmm so...", Vinod sat on the seat opposite to Naina in her office. "So matlab?" "So matlab are your ready." "For what?" Naina avoided his eye contact and searched for something on her desk. "Naina hum dono jaante hai ki main kiss baare mein baat kar raha hoon. But if you want me to be more direct then fine, main Sameer ke baare mein baat kar raha hoon." "Please Vinod main uske bare mein baat nahi karna chahti." "Fine. Par are you sure about this merger?" "Vinod tumhare haath mein legal contracts hain aur tum pooch rahe ho ki main iss merger ko lekar sure hoon ya nahi. Of course I am sure Vinod. I don't want my past to ruin my future. Please lets keep this prefessional." "Ok then". "Toh batao itni der kyu hui aane mein?", Naina now shifted her attention on him stopping her desk serach. "Poocho mat tumhari bhabhi ke itne tantrums." Naina laughed saying, "Come one Vinod she is expecting your child, tantrums toh honge he na." "Ya fine, ab business ki baat kare. Naina aaj ke meeting ke baad humme stock exchange ko inform karna padega aur phir..." he trailed on taking the coffee, " Ahh thanks Lavina for the coffee. Aur uske baat court mein register karni padegi aur court ke saath humara ek meeting hoga then the merger will be sanctioned. But don't worry main try karoonga ki yeh saare process jald se jald ho jaye, without any unnecessary delay. Ok? Naina I want you to request to meet the staffs of the merger company. Akhir it will affect them also right." "You are right Vinod. Main baat karti hoon unse." "Maam woh log aa gaye", Lavina informed them. "Haan unse kaho ki woh confrence room mein wait kare hum abhi aate hai", Naina said.

Sameer was yet again feeling anxious. "Sameer tu theek hain na", Munna was clearly concered about him. "Haan Munna main bilkul theek hoon", Sameer said pacing around the room. "Sach sach bata Sameer." "Munna dusri baar milne jaa raha hoon usse, todi anxious feel kar raha hoon." "Dekh Sameer abhi bhi waqt hai, ek baar phir se soch lena." "Tum pagal ho, yahan aake kya baat kar rahe ho." "Dekho Sameer main toh sirf yeh keh raha tha ki..." before Munna could complete the door of the conference room opened and a Naina entered along with a man of about the same age of Naina and another women, who Sameer immediately recognized to be Naina's assistant, Lavina. But the woman dressed in a black shirt with grey pencil skirt caught his attention. She looked elegant as ever. But she didn't seem to resemble the woman he had known. Her walk was more confident than the gracious one he saw years back. Her face had a firm expression of a perfect business women, he would have appreciated it if it was someone else other than her but today she lacked the lively look with which he was greeted years back. She looked directly into Sameer's eyes for a brief period of time before shifting it to the man beside him. Probably his lawyer and then to the well recognized visage of a man. His friend or probably their friend. She greeted Munna and Srikant with a slight smile who reciprocated the same smile.
But a pair of eyes refused to look away from the woman standing in front of him till Vinod extended his hands towards him. "Mr.Maheshwari....Mr. Maheswari", he called out a little louder to grab his attention. Joining hands with him, Vinod spoke "I am Vinod Kotecha, NR's fashion's legal advisory. Pleased to meet you Mr. Maheshwari." The six of them took their seats round the conference table. As they took their seats, Naina took the intercom in her hand and called a peon to come inside the conference room. "Aap log kya lenge coffee or tea" asked Vinod. He received 'coffee' as a response from two different people at the same time. 'Tea' both of them changed it, again together. "Can you both decide on one, Sameer what would you like to have", Vinod asked then individually this time. "Coffee." "and Naina tum?" "Tea." The peon entered the room and Vinod gave the orders. "Aur mere liye bhi coffee", he added in the end. "Vinod tunne abhi dus minute pehle he toh coffee pi thi", Naina looked at Vinod with surprise. "Haan toh." "Phir se, din mein kitne baar coffee piyoge." Sameer had heard the same line spoken with the same concern before. It felt like time hand pressed the rewind button and he could help but think about his time spent with Naina.....

24 January 1993, Ahmedabad,
"Bas na Sameer, din mein kitne baar coffee piyoge."
"Naina tum jaanti ho na ki mujhe coffee kitna pasand hai aur agar main coffee nahi piya toh mujhe neend aa jayegi aur padhai nahi kar paunga."
"Sameer yeh tumhara paanchva cup hai. Ab bas no more coffee."
"Naina please ek last cup. Naina please Naina pleasee. Cup wapas dedona.....Nainaaaaaa..."

"Mr. Maheshwari, Mr. Maheshwari?" Naina broke his line of thoughts. "Huh...." Sameer replied coming to reality. "Aap sun rahe hai na ki main kya keh rahi hoon." "Haan haan... go on." "Woh main keh rahi thi ki main apke employees ke saath baat......". and the it all became inaudible to Sameer. He could see her lips move, but id not hear what she said, all he focused on was her face. He could have sworn somewhere between the conversation her eyes got stuck with his and for that second he knew Naina was lost in them, but she recovered quickly and continued explaining whatever she was explaining.

"So we will meet up soon to discuss regarding the other procedures, philhal ke liye yeh meeting yahi par katam" She closed the file in front of her and even Sameer snapped out. Recovering soon he said "Sure and Thank you Mr. Kotecha", standing up from his seat. Vinod shook his head in disapproval. "Call me Vinod just Vinod." "Ok then aur aap bhi mujhe Mr. Maheshwari nahi sirf Sameer bulayega." Though the words were exchanged with Vinod, Sameer's eyes were conveying it's own message to Naina who was standing just few inches away from him, yet that distance seemed too far to be able to reach. Sameer shook his hands with Vinod and then extended it towards Naina.
Her hand trembled before touching his. The slight tremble was only visible to his eyes. So it does make a difference, he thought as he felt her warm hands slide into his. His heart still fluttered at the minute touch of her fingers. He wished he could pull her into his embrace instead of this formal greeting. His grip around her hand tightened, as if trying to quench the desire he had for all these years, as if to convey the need of her in his life. Naina looked up into his eyes. His eyes was trying to address the Naina that she had buried deep within her, the Naina who was very well concealed deep inside her. His eyes threatened to resurface that Naina, who she didn't want to be. She thanked her stars when the telephone in the office buzzed and he left her hand, immediately feeling isolated from her warmth. Sameer turned to leave the room not before casting one last glance at her. Srikant and Munna followed him out. "Ha bol Swati", Naina said as soon as she picked the call, causing Munna to stop in his tracks for a second before he proceeded forward. This didn't go unnoticed by Naina. "Swati main tumhe baad mein call karti hoon, abhi todha kaam hai. Ok bye". Keeping her mobile on the desk she hurried outside the room.
Sameer checked his pant pockets only to realize that he had left his car keys in the conference room. "Munna tu yahi ruk, lagta hai ki maine car ki chabhi andar he chod aaya main keys lekar aata hoon." He turned back towards the room. He took long strides towards the room, his pace was quick but he was forced to reduce the momentum of his steps to avoid collision with a woman who was moving towards him with equal speed. Fortunately the collision was avoided but the increased speed caused them to twirl around instead of clashing. Their bodies hadn't touched. Their fingers just few millimeters away. Their face so close that they could feel each other's breath. Their eyes locked, transfixed with the sudden closeness. Their feet taking circles on the ground as they twirled together, yet separately. Melody of love yet again echoed in their hearts bringing back a pleasant memory from their past.

11th September 1990, Ahmedabad
A 16 year old girl who had just sworn two minutes back that she would never fall in love with anyone in her life, found herself getting lost in the mesmerizing charcoal coloured orbs that attracted her as soon as its gaze fell over her. The pull so strong that she forgot her promise to herself, forgot herself in those eyes.
A boy around 17 who just got into a chase with his seniors came in contact with a young innocent soul. Whose innocence, mellowed down his anger, increased his heartbeat, caused thousand of emotions to rush through every cell in his body, a faint smile formed on his lips, his eyes refused to leave hers, feeling peaceful in her gaze. Yet he moved away towards those boys, but his head constantly turning back to catch a glimpse of the girl again.
*
Both stood rooted to their spot. Time seemed to have stopped for these two souls. Eyes that were reluctant to part ways. Hands that itched to clasp the other's. Hearts that yearned to hold each other in their arms. But they stood still. Motionless, but not emotionless. The same nervousness, the same spark, the same enticement caught hold of them again. Experiencing the new yet old fragrance of love, they stood captivated by the other's charm. Time being forgotten, environment forgotten, people and boundaries forgotten. Tears started emerging out of those love filled eyes. Tears that did not stop. "Sameer..." She whispered softly. Her voice reflected her inner emotions, that she tried to hide from the world for two years. He felt the tenderness of her voice. Love still hidden somewhere in that voice. He experienced peace for the first time in two years hearing his name again from her. He lifted his hands to cup her face, but stopped midway when a manly voice yanked them out of the spell.
"Naina..." It belonged to Vinod. Immediately Sameer and Naina put some distance between their bodies. Looked every where else in the room except for the other's eyes. Becoming aware of the surrounding he moved towards the room to grab his keys an she went towards the exit door to meet Munna.
***
"Kaise ho tum?", she asked Munna who was waiting in the parking lot. "Main theek hoon. Tum kaisi ho". "Acchi hoon." "Aur...." he trailed of not knowing how to ask. "Swati bhi theek hai." Munna gasped at how well she understood his incomplete words. "Munna, main tumse..." she began to say something but Sameer's vouce stopped her. "Chalein... der ho rahi hai." He said without looking at Naina. "Chalo" Munna replied. Munna gave an awkward smile to Naina before getting into Sameer's car. Naina watched till the car went out of sight and then went inside the building again.
