#2: Surprise

Thank you for your support.
Happy Reading❤

The corridors of VJN University were  filled with the chatter of students but there was one voice that could be distinctly heard from a distance.

"GS HAI APNI BADI KAMAL, NAAM HAI USKA NAINA AGARWAL."

The slogans had just changed from,

"TOTA PE NA MAINA PE MOHAR LAGEGI  NAINA PE."

- because the result of the GS Elections were out and Naina Agarwal had won by a huge margin.

The voice that was soaring above all the commotion and could be heard clearly belonged to Sameer Maheshwari. Naina had gracefully accepted her victory with a smile and a thank you speech for every student who had voted in her favour but Sameer had lost his mind. He was having a hard time in keeping his emotions under control. The second highest voice was that of Naina's sister Preeti.

"GS HAI APNI BADI KAMAL NAAM HAI USKA NAINA AGARWAL."

Sameer kept shouting slogans of Naina's name all the way to Red Rose. She had to close her own ears because of his volume but he didn't care, he was going to celebrate her victory. More than Naina, it was Sameer's dream to see her win the election. She had pinned all her hopes on Ms. Fresher 1992 but because of the cheap tactics of Kartik and Sunaina's friends, she had lost a title she deserved. Her defeat had made the shine in his own Mr. Fresher's trophy disappear. This time he had not left any stone unturned from hell, heaven or Earth to make make Naina's election campaign a success.

"GS HAI APNI ..."

"Bas Sameer bas." Naina held his arm to calm him down but his eyes were twinkling with a sense of achievement that she had never seen before. She had never seen him this excited or satisfied. If he could, he would have lifted Naina in his arms and would have twirled her around the entire college.

Even after 3 years of their relationship, whenever he held her hand he tried to be extra gentle. He wondered over the pressure of his hold a lot, it had to be enough to tell her he was there for her but he couldn't make it too tight. Naina was too delicate for him and he didn't want to manhandle her even in the slightest of ways.

Munna - Pandit and Swati went to give their orders while Preeti, Kamya and Hema were heading towards their regular table.

The entire atmosphere had turned festive with Naina's victory. Even Swati, who was upset with Naina had talked to her about her insecurities and her pain. She had told her about Sunaina's attempts at manipulating her and how she had almost been successful but it was Munna who had sensed changes in her behavior and had confronted her.

The idiot, bandar Munna was the one who talked Swati out of all her discomforts and told her to talk to Naina directly. JBR's Duffer Boy was the one who made her see sense and had helped Naina and Swati bridge their gaps. It turned out that Munna was deeper and more sensible than anyone would have thought! This incident had cemented SwaMun's relationship forever.  Swati and Munna had grown together in love and the color of Naina-Swati's friendship had deepened.

The eight wheeler truck was back on track and was running ahead with full speed.

Sameer went to join the others in their celebrations but Naina held his arm to stop him.

"Sameer! Do minute bahar aaoge? Mujhe tumse kuch kaam hai." Naina asked him.

"Mujhse kaam hai?" Sameer said.

"Haa hai kuch kaam tum bahar chalo na." Naina pulled him out with her. He looked at their hands, smiled and followed her.

Not caring about the eyes of their fellow college mates Naina took Sameer out with him. They went out of the campus, out of the college gates.

"Apni bike start karo." Naina ordered him.

"Hum kaha jaa-" Sameer asked her.

"Tum bahut sawal puchte ho! Jitna keh rahi hu utna karo. Apne college ki GS se baat kar rahe ho tum Mr. Maheshwari." Naina crossed her arms.

"Ok... Mrs. Maheshwari."

Naina's facade of ordering him melted as she blushed when he called her Mrs. Maheshwari. She controlled her overgrowing smile and told him to start his bike. She sat behind him. There was no bag in between them. She sat like a normal girlfriend should. She held his shoulder's and Sameer felt happiness oozing out of his face. Only he knew how much he had craved for this little moment on their first bike ride.

Naina told him where to go and he followed her directions. After 15 minutes they were standing outside a park.

"Tum 2 minute ruko, mai 5 minute me aayi." Naina said and went inside the park gate. Sameer kept standing outside waiting for her. She was no where in sight for the next 10 minutes but he didn't complain kyuki yeh un dinon ki baat hai jab intezaar me bhi pyaar hota tha.

Sameer was busy looking around when Naina came running out of the gate.

"Sorry thodi late ho gayi." She was running out of breath and was panting a little.

"Naina tum kya kar rahi ho?" Sameer was getting confused.

"Ye lo, apne aankh par pati bandho." Naina gave him a black cloth to tie on his eyes.

"Meri aankho par to waise bhi tumhare pyar ki pati bandhi hai." Sameer Cheesy Maheshwari was back.

"Buddhu!" Naina said and gave him the cloth.

"Mere haath nahi chal rahe." Sameer whined like a little baby.

She laughed and went behind him. He leaned on the bike while she tied the cloth around his eyes. As she felt his hair brushing against her fingers, a tingling sensation filled her stomach.

She cleared her throat to put her emotions back in place and said, "Ab chalo mere saath."

"Mujhe kuch dikhai nahi de raha." The mischief was clearly audible in his voice.

Naina took his hand and led him inside the park. Sameer bent down and Naina untied the cloth around his eyes.

"SURPRISSSEEEE!!" She greeted him.

"Naina? Ye sab?" Sameer looked at Naina and then at all the preparations she had done.

An isolated bench and tree were decorated with balloons. Some stray balloons were kept on the bench's periphery. There were two small, white boxes in the centre. One of it was kept with a plastic knife on it. The setting was simple but reminded them of Naina's 18th Birthday party. The colors of the balloons gave a youthful contrast to the brown and green background.

"Yeh sab kiske liye?" He asked her.

"Tumhare liye." She shrugged her shoulders.

"Kyu?"

"Kyuki" She dragged the i "Ek mahan insan ne mujhse kaha tha ki pyar me har din khas hota hai. Toh, maine socha ki aaj uss insan ka din special banaya jaaye."

"Woh sab toh theek hai Naina par aaj tumhara special din hai. Tum college elections jeeti ho. Sab tumhara wait kar rahe honge. Aaj tumhara din hai mujhe kisi aur din special feel karwa lena. Ab wapas college chalo." He began walking back but she didn't move.

She crossed her arms and kept looking at her decorations with an angry glare.

"Naina..." Sameer called her.

"Naina.."

"Naina ..."

"Tumhe jaana hai tum jao." Naina took angry steps and sat on the bench. Some of the balloons fell on the ground. Sameer walked in her direction and picked them up.

She didn't look at him. So, to gain her attention he threw one on her face.

"Sameer!!" She cried and threw some balloons at him. Soon, they began playing with balloons and throwing them around like little kids. Memories of Naina's birthday came flashing back in their head. All the running made them out of breath and exhausted, they retired to the bench and sat on either side of the boxes. They looked at each other panting and laughed. It felt like ages when they had laughed so much.

Naina turned towards the boxes and opened the one with a plastic knife on it. It had a small chocolate cake which read

Thank You Sameer.

"Thank You? Kis liye?" He read it and looked at her.

"Har cheez ke liye." Her eyes moistened as she said these words.

"Ab tumhe itna good looking life partner mila hai iske liye tumhe mujhe nahi Bhagwan ji aur mere Mummy Papa ko shukriya kehna chahiye. Ye handsome chehra unki den hai." He joked.

"Tch... Sameer!!" Naina whined a little. He chuckled but then calmed himself down to let her speak.

"Arjun Bhaiya aur Shefali ke saath jo bhi hua tha, usne mujhe hila ke rakh diya tha. Mai bahut dar gayi thi. Mujhe laga tha ki Agarwal aur Maheshwari wali baat ki wajah se humare parivaar kabhi bhi humare rishte ke liye taiyar nahi honge. Mujhme dubara Papa ya Chacha ji ko khud ko fasi lagate huye dekhne ki himmat nahi thi. Mujhe laga tha ki mai bhi tumhare saath wahi karungi jo Arjun Bhaiya ne Shefali ke saath kiya. Maine Shefali ko tut-te huye dekha tha Sameer, par mai tumhe tut-te huye nahi dekh sakti thi."

"Maine khud ko kamzor maan liya aur agle din tumhe apna faisla suna diya. Tum mujhe manate rahe, khud ko chot pahuchate rahe par mujhe laga tumhe khudse door karke mai tumhe aur gehri chot lagne se bacha rahi hu lekin maine toh tumhe aur khud ko mar hi diya tha. Tum sab kuch chod chad ke sanyas lene chale gaye the! Munna ne bataya mujhe tum din bhar sone ki koshish karte the taaki tumhe meri yaad na aaye. Meri wajah se tumne Sunaina ke saath khela, uska dil tod diya aur uss bandar, Sharad ki naak bhi tod di." She laughed remembering Sharad's crooked nose.

"Iss poore kisse mein bas mai sirf mai-mai kar rahi thi. Mera parivar, mera faisla, mere Chacha ji. Maine toh humare pyar ko bhi galat keh diya fir bhi jab Chacha ji ne humare rishte ke liye haa kaha tum turant maan gaye. Tumne apne maan, apmaan ke baare me bilkul bhi nahi socha. Tum toh Munna ki khushi ke baare me soch rahe the. Maine tumhara dil dukhaya hai Sameer, I am sorry aur itna bura bartav karne ke baad bhi mere saath khade rehne ke liye, mujhse zyada mujhse pyar karne ke liye... Thank You."

Sameer was taken aback with her confession. He was upset with Naina during their break up phase but he had never wanted an apology from her or even any sign of gratitude. His love was above his ego.

"Tab toh mujhe bhi tumhe sorry aur thank you kehna chahiye na." Sameer said. "Tum itne dard me thi, itni pareshani me thi aur maine kya kiya? Kuch nahi. Jab mai Dadi ki baaton ko sach man kar tumse door hona chahta tha tab tumne har mumkin koshish ki mera dar door karne ki. Maine kya kiya? Tumhare haath me mehndi dekhi aur Sunaina ko propose kar diya. Maine jo kiya uski wajah se wo ladki tumhari aur Swati ki dosti bhi todne wali thi. I am sorry Naina."

"Sharad se rishta tay (fix) hone se tumhe bhi toh bahut takleef ho rahi hogi. Mere paas Mama Mami, Bhaiya Bhabhi, Munna Pandit sab the par tum toh kisi se khul ke baat bhi nahi kar sakti thi. Tumhare sapne, tumhara parivaar sab ek jhatke me tumse alag ho raha tha. Tum itni pareshaan thi aur mai tumhe aur dard dena chah raha tha Sunaina ke saath ghum ke."

"Par tumne mere pair ke dard ki wajah se roz mere liye gadi bheji, mai khana kha saku isliye poori class ko party de di." Naina tried to remind him.

"Ye mera farz tha aur haq bhi. Tum mujhe bhi meri burai nahi karne deti! Tum mujhse itna pyar kaise kar sakti ho? Kabhi kabhi mai ye soch ke dar jaata hu ki agar sahi waqt par Sharad ka asli chehra hum logon ke saamne nahi aata toh tumhari poori life barbaad ho jati ya uss din maine Chacha ji se baat-"

"Chachaji se baat? Chachaji se kab baat ki tumne?" Naina asked him.

"Nahi. Kuch nahi. Kisi din nahi. Tumhare kaan baj rahe hai kya?" Sameer laughed nervously and looked ahead.

The silence that followed marked the complete dispersal of the heaviness of their past. There was no complain left, there was no wound that needed to be healed. They were together and will always be.

"Chalo ek promise karte hain -" Sameer said.

"Hello!! Maine apna promise sabke samne Munna ko likhit me diya hai. Tum bolo."

Sameer laughed. He wiped the pool of tears in Naina's eyes and she wiped his.

"Mai, Mr. Sameer Jaiprakash Maheshwari, ye kasam khata hu ki har sukh dukh, utar chadav me Naina Agarwal ka saath dunga. Uska wazan jitna bhi badh jaaye, uske har bojh ko uthaunga aur -"

He couldn't complete what he wanted to say. She began slapping his arm and he didn't complain. He enjoyed all the happy moments they shared.

Naina opened the other box, she took out a samosa from it and made him eat it first. She then had the remaining part herself. Sameer saw a bottle of Coke kept in that box and made Naina drink it first. He happily drank her jootha then.

Dil ke chaman ka hasna toh dekho
Jagi nazar ka sapna toh dekho

Aise huye hum ek jaan ek dil
Tu hai ki mai hu kehna hai mushkil

Jhoka basanti hai tu,
Tan hai gulabi mera.

Do rang milne ke baad,
Hote nahi hai juda

Toh fir sambhal
Dil ye chala
Jana kaha
Aa dil me aa

Saathiya tune kya kiya
Beliya tune kya kiya
