Chapter 16

Sam & Cat & the Haunted Thundermans: The Dark Twister

Chapter Sixteen: Where Are We?
Phoebe Thunderman POV

"PHOEBE, WAKE UP!!!" Max shouted at me, while he shook me, waking me up from my unconscious state.

I fluttered my eyes open. I woke up to see Max's face in front of me. I shoved him out of the way, so that I could look at my surroundings. In front of me, I saw a bunch of palm trees and blueberry bushes. Underneath me, was white sand. I then turned my head to the right. Right in front of my eyes, was a huge ocean. I watched as the ten-foot tall waves crashed onto the shore, creating white sea foam. I then turned towards Max, who was dusting the sand off of his dark-blue swim trunks.

"You didn't have to shove me, you know!" Max complained.

"You were in my way!" I argued.

Max groaned. "Out of all of the people I know, I just had to be stuck on this stupid island with you!"

"Where are we and how did we get here!?!?"

"The stupid tornado carried us all the way here! I don't know where we are exactly. All I know is that we're on some kind of deserted island."

"How is that possible!?!? How come we aren't torn to shreds already!?!?"

"I don't know, but do you even remember what happened at The Dolphin Swimming Center?"

I looked up at the sky, struggling to remember what had happened. For some reason, my mind felt very dizzy.

"All I remember is having our thundersense go off, while swimming with dolphins, a huge tornado forming in the clouds, running for our lives, loosing you and not knowing where you went, having the tornado catching up with us, and it lifting me up in the air," I told Max.

"Yeah, that's exactly what happened!" Max replied, "Your mind is probably just a bit foggy from all of the spinning. Mine was like that too when I woke up."

"How long have you been up for, Max?"

Max thought for a moment. "I'm not too sure; I don't have a clock. But, I'm guessing about thirty minutes."

"Is that how long you've been trying to wake me up for?"

"No, I spent the first ten minutes trying to remember what happened. Then, I spent the next fifteen trying to figure out how we're not dead yet. Then, I spent the last five trying to wake you up."

"Oh. So, what happened to you that made you loose us?"

"I got trampled by the crowd of petrified people, then got picked up by the tornado."

"I wish that I would've known that when everybody was panicking, trying to find you. It was like living in a mad house!"

Max gulped, then looked down. "W-was C-cat panicking too?"

I cocked my head at Max. "Why wouldn't she of been? Even though you guys were fighting, Cat is still your friend and she still cares about you."

Max's eyes widened. "You can remember that we were fighting?"

I nodded. "I don't remember what you guys were fighting about, but I just remember that we got out, Cat said something mean, you jumped back in, I jumped in with you to get you back out, then we saw the tornado, then began to run."

"I'm surprised that you can remember that much already! It took me about five minutes to remember that and it only took you about two!"

"That's because I'm smarter than you, Max!"

"Who said you're smarter than me, Phoebe? My grades spell out AAAAAAAAA and yours spell out AAAAAAAAB!"

"Max, you only got those grades because you changed them in the computer. And besides, just because I'm not the best drawer in the world, doesn't mean that I'm stupid."

"Ok, whatever, Phoebe! Anyways, it was not just when we were swimming with dolphins that Cat and I fought!"

"You guys fought another time!?!? When!?!?

"Well, when we were on the bus, Cat sat next to me because I was all alone. I then told her in a harsh tone to go away. For some reason, she got mad at me for being rude to her, and she still hasn't gotten over it!"

"Max, you do realize that people get upset when you're rude to them, right?"

"Yes, but I don't understand why she got so upset."

"You were being mean to her; that's why."

"Yes, but she lives with Sam all the time and she's rude to a lot of people! Phoebe, you're a girl; you know how girls think! Tell me why she got so upset!"

I thought for a moment. "Well, how would you feel if some one saved your life, then turned out to be a real jerk off!?!?"

Max looked at me like he was offended. "Are you calling me a jerk, Phoebe!?!?"

"Yes, I am because you shouldn't treat people that way!"

"I'm a super villain! What did you expect, Phoebe!?!?"

"Whatever, Max. So anyways, you never answered me."

Max thought for a moment. "I guess that I'd get pretty upset too. I would be like, if you're such a jerk, then where did your courage come from to save me!?!?"

"Exactly."

"Wait, are you saying that I have no courage, Phoebe!?!?"

"No, not at all. But, wouldn't you be like, why are you being so mean to me? I thought that you were supposed to be nice!"

Max thought for a moment. "Yes, I would be. Then, I would start to think, 'you know what? I don't care if you saved my life, I'm now going to be mean to you too, jerk face!' "

"And that's what Cat must of been thinking when you were being rude to her on the bus!"

"But, why Cat!?!? She has such a friendly personality. Why is she being so mean?"

"Well, maybe she's just one of those people who have strong opinions, like me. You know whenever you say something that I like is stupid, I immediately fire back at you?"
"Yeah, why?"

"Well, maybe Cat is one of those people who do that, like me."

"Well, she doesn't do that with Sam. If Sam says something that she likes is stupid, she'll just say, 'well, I think that it's great!' "

I thought for a moment. "Yeah, I guess you're right!"

"Yeah, no duh, Phoebe! There has to be another reason!"

I thought for a moment. "Well, maybe she thought you were a good person when you helped save her, and she's trying to convince you to be like how she thought you were!"

"Well, if she is, I'm never going to give in! I am Max Thunderman! I am a super villain, not a super hero, like you, Mom, Dad, Nora, and Billy! And besides, since when did yelling at people help them become nicer? I just don't get that!"

"Well, maybe she's working you up."

"What do you mean she's working me up!?!?"

"Well, maybe she's planning on fighting with you for a couple of more days, then she's going to start to bet you on things, like, 'I bet you ten dollars that you can't make to to the lobby before me!' And maybe once she has you all worked up, she'll start saying, 'I bet fifty dollars you that you can't be nice to people for the rest of our vacation!' And once you've won, she might double the money and say, "Here's an extra fifty for being so nice. Being nice to people, pays off, Max!' Then, since you'll be so used to being nice to people, you'll become a nice person!"

"I'll take her on in the race to the lobby bet, but there's no way I'm going to be nice to people!"

"But, what if she calls you a chicken?"

"Then, I'll say, 'I bet you fifty dollars that your plans fails!' "

"But, what if she acts dumb and says, 'what plan!?!?' "

"Then, I'll say, 'don't pretend like you don't know what you're doing, Cat!' "

"But, what if I had never told you what I think that Cat is doing? Would you of figured it out, or get mad at Cat for calling you a chicken and accept?"

"I would of just said no, but then she could of kept on annoying me to the point where I had finally gave in."

I grinned. "That's what I thought."

"But, Cat couldn't of planned all of that! She has the brain of a goldfish!"

"Sometimes people who don't seem too bright, can come up with some very smart things, Max."

Max raised one eyebrow. "Oh really!?!? Look at Billy, Phoebe."

"I said, 'sometimes', Max!"

"Well, I guess you're right. I remember that on a couple of tv shows that I've watched, they were all trying to solve the problem or trying to figure out what was going on, and the dumbest character out of all of them would figure it all out, and the other characters would be like, 'h-how did you figure that out?" Then, the stupid character would go back to them normal selves and ask, 'figure what out?' "

"Exactly!"

"Can we start to look for some food now? I'm starving!"

I then felt my stomach rumble. "Yeah, I'm starving too. Who knows when the last time we ate was? It could of been a couple of days ago!"

"Yeah, that's why we need to find something to eat this instant!"

"Well, why don't we eat some blueberries from those bushes over there?" I suggested, as I pointed towards the blueberry bushes.

"Sounds like a plan," Max agreed, as he started to walk towards the blueberry bushes.

I then rolled over on my stomach and pushed myself out of the sand. I then followed Max towards the blueberry bushes. By the time that I had gotten to the blueberry bushes, Max was already there. I watched him as he picked a blueberry off of one of the bushes and popped it into his mouth. A disgusted look came upon Max's face as he began to chew the blueberry.

"This blueberry taste funny," he told me.

"Well, maybe it's rotten," I guessed.

Max just shrugged. "I guess one rotten blueberry won't hurt me. I mean, it's only one little, rotten blueberry, not twenty of them!"

"Exactly," I agreed, as I picked a blueberry off of one of the bushes and popped it into my mouth.

As I began to chew the blueberry, I could taste its insides. It did not taste like a regular blueberry. It tasted kind of like blueberries, but with this weird, funky, brussels sprouts taste. It didn't really taste like a berry; it tasted like some kind of weird, green vegetable that most people don't like.

"Yeah, these blueberries do taste funny," I agreed.

"See what I mean!?!?" Max asked.

"Why do you think that they taste so funny?"

Max thought for a moment. "I don't know. Maybe they're all rotten."

"I don't think so...," I disagreed, as I began to study the blueberries, "They're all hard and blue, not purple, leaking, and covered in mold!"

"Yeah, you're right. Well, what else could it be? We need to think here! These might not be regular blueberries, if they taste like this!"

"Yeah, you might be right," I agreed, as I began to think, "Do you think that it's the soil that's making these blueberries taste so funny?"

Max scrunched up his nose and squinted his eyes. "What are you talking about, Phoebe? The blueberries are planted into the sand, not dirt!"

"Well, soil doesn't always have to be dirt, Max. It can be sand too. But, have you ever seen blueberries planted in the sand before?"

Max thought for a moment. "No, I guess that I haven't. But, what's your point, Phoebe?"
"My point is that maybe that the blueberry plants aren't getting that the nutrition that they need or that they are getting different nutrients than other blueberries get because of the sand that they're planted in."

"Maybe. But, what's the difference? A blueberry is a blueberry and blueberries are food, which is what we really need to survive on this island," Max told me, as he picked another blueberry off of one of the bushes and ate it.

"Yeah, I guess you're right," I agreed, as I picked another blueberry and ate it.

"Wait a minute, how are we going to get any fluids?" Max asked me.

I thought for a moment. "Well, maybe we could drink some milk from the coconuts in the palm tress."

"Uh, I don't know you, Phoebe, but I am not an expert at climbing trees, I can't hold off long enough to wait for one to fall off one of the palm trees, and I can't drink salt water, without boiling it."

"Well, I guess that we could start a fire, but we would need a pot in order to boil the water."

"Exactly!"

"Well, I guess we could go around and look for any fallen coconuts. If we can't find any, we could always crush these blueberries in our hands and make blueberry juice. We won't be getting as much fluids as we would with the milk inside of a coconut, but at least it would be something for us to drink, without getting sick."

"That's a good idea."

"Yeah, Max, this isn't like back at home, where a machine could do all of this stuff for us. We have to start thinking like survivors! We have to start building and cooking things for ourselves now!"

Max sighed. "I know. I'm really going to miss having my phones, my computers, and all of my other devices."

"Max, even if we weren't on this deserted island right now, you still wouldn't of been able to use any of your devices!"

"Yeah, but who knows how long we're going to be stuck on this island, Phoebe!?!? We could be stuck here for the rest of our lives!"

I shivered at the thought of spending the rest of my life with Max, only focusing on surviving, and not on the other great things in life.

"Hopefully we get found A LOT sooner than that!" I exclaimed.

"Yeah, hopefully! I don't think I could deal with you always being at my side for the rest of my life!" Max agreed.

"Yeah, me neither!"
