Jude's Pov
∽
We sat around a circular table, everyone muttering something hopeful to the other. It was grandmother, Uncle Luke, Poe, Finn, Rey, Corinthia, Nalani and I, all wondering why this meeting was being held.
For awhile, I found myself thinking of nothing. I just stared at one of the walls decorated with vines. Uncle Luke's blue eyes showed the kind of gentle concern my grandfather used to have. He laid his hand lightly on my shoulder, and instead of moving it like I usually did, I was soothed by it. He left his hand there and spoke with such a soft voice I felt his words calming me more by the way they were said than the actual words. "This evening, we received a HoloNet from the First Order. This message was sent throughout the entire galaxy and now we might have an issue," He took a seat beside me, removing his hand off my shoulder. "Rey, Jude and myself are being hunted down by the First Order's new superior bounty hunter, Kalila Jane or more commonly known as Kal Ja."
Grandmother shook her head, rubbing her temple. "The First Order will probably do anything to have you three dead, including invading this entire planet."
"This is why I've gathered everyone here," Luke looked around, using his robotic hand to scratch his growing beard. "I have an idea."
Rey sat up in her chair, itching to know his plan. "What is it master?"
"We leave, simple as that," Luke explained. "We can't attack the First Order without knowing the entire galaxy is on our side and the Republic agrees to it, that hasn't happened yet."
"The Republic doesn't want a war," Nalani speaks up, her face decorated with pink and yellow. "The Republic believes that if they leave the First Order alone, nothing will happen. First Order attacks have decreased over the years and they want to keep it that."
"With all due respect your majesty," Corinthia speaks up, not having any of it. "The First Order wants you dead."
"The First Order wants everyone on this planet dead, don't you see that?" Poe interferes. "The only thing stopping them from being strong again is this Resistance!"
"Enough!" Grandmother shouted, putting a hand through her silver hair as she picked up the HoloNet transmitter and stared blankly at it. "I have contacted each Senator apart of the Republic, including the Chancellor. They will be flying to meet me here so we can discuss the termination of the First Order."
"Kalee, Eufornis Major, Tatooine, Chandrila, Bespin, Akiva, Naboo and Anthan Prime will all be discussing a war...here?" I question, processing the idea.
"You missed about a million different planets but that's the goal," Grandmother flicked a switch and the room went dark before a hologram appeared before us. Numbers flashed before my eyes and I watched interestedly as she explained. "The size of the Resistance is just slightly bigger than the size of the First Order. The size of the Resistance with aid from the entire Republic is about ten times the size of the First Order. By the time our Jedi have left and the Senators have arrived, the First Order will be distracted with finding their runaway Jedi. While this happens, I will hopefully receive confirmation from the Senators and Chancellor himself to end the First Order once and for all."
Awkwardly, I raise my hand and wait to be called on. "What about Bellamy?"
Grandmother sighed. "She let you escape, maybe she can escape too."
Luke cleared his throat and waited for his sister to turn the lights back on, when she did, he looked at me. "Jude, I think it's about time we have a talk."
I look around the room and Corinthia gives me a questionable look. "About what?"
Grandmother too looked surprised, taking a seat beside Finn and myself. "What's on your mind Luke?"
"Do we really need an audience?"
"Now you've really got me interested," Corinthia laughed lightly. "I want to hear it."
Luke looked up at grandmother, almost sending her an apologetic smile before turning to me. "Anakin Skywalker is your great grandfather. He possessed so much talent and skill that he become one of the strongest and most powerful Jedi ever. I am a Skywalker but I have learnt to restrain myself from feeling a connection through the force. By birth, your grandmother is a Skywalker and she chose to honour that name before she became General Organa and therefore, your father was a Skywalker," Luke looked at me with all the hope in the galaxy. "Skywalker blood runs through your veins and I have become very old...I need someone to carry the name, the legacy."
It felt as if someone had punched me in the stomach. I sat rigid, paralysed as a winded man is. With all I had, I prevented myself from gasping. Only through my parted lips, I drew tiny gasps, all controlled. "Let me get this straight," I tried to breathe. "You want me to become a Skywalker?"
"You already are, it's just your last name-"
"Absolutely not," Grandmother interrupted. "Now way in hell."
"Leia," Luke groaned. "You don't understand."
"No Luke, I do understand," Grandmother fought back. "I get it, you want him to keep the legacy, make sure your name is passed on through generation to generation."
"Exactly," Luke crossed his arms. "It was father who came to me with the message, in my dreams."
Grandmother's face dropped and she placed her hand on her forehead, contemplating what to say next. "Anakin told you to rename MY grandson?"
Luke nodded his head, looking back at me, in which I probably looked ghastly. "You wouldn't understand it if I explained it Leia. After years of silence, he finally reached out to me."
Fed up, grandmother shouted. "I am not having any of this. You may have a legacy but so does Han, and Jude is the last Solo left."
The silence was a poison to us, for in that void of sound the shallowness of their conversation was laid bare. So without another word, I stood up from my seat and pulled up a picture of Bellamy from the HoloNet. "There is still one Solo left."
There is a distance in grandmother's eyes as she takes a few steps backwards, bumping into the wall like she wasn't expecting it. Her head rolls with the impact, eyes glazed. Her voice comes out thin and distant, "Something isn't right." She's breathing all wrong, beginning to gasp like there's not enough oxygen in the air. Suddenly, her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she slumped against the wall, falling to the ground.
"Oh my god," Corinthia jumped from her chair and fell to the ground. "She's seizing! We need a medic! Someone get a med droid!"
I watch in disbelief as everyone crowds around her as I shuffle to the back. I place my hands on either side of my head and look at Luke who has done the same thing. The med droids and human medics arrive to the scene within seconds, taking her away as Poe and Finn run behind them.
It's silent again.
"She isn't going to die is she?" I mutter out, feeling Corinthia's hand wrap around my own.
"I think she had a heart attack," Nalani suggests, looking sadly at me. "Or a stroke..."
Luke looked up from his feet and shook his head. "We need to go."
"Now?" Rey gapes. "We just got back."
"Now." Luke confirmed.
"I'm coming with you," Corinthia objected. "I'm not losing you, not again."
Nalani picked up grandmother's transmitter device and placed it in the palm of her hand. "Go, I'll make sure things run smoothly until she wakes up."
I let go of Corinthia's hand and take a long stride to Nalani, hugging her tightly. "As it is my rightful duty to take the General's place if she falls, I put you in charge of the Resistance."
"The Senators and Chancellor?" Her eyes filled with fear. "What if she isn't better by the time they arrive?"
"You know the plan," I smile a little bit, trying to show her how much I trust her to do this. "Poe and Finn will help you, Jess Pava will get people to listen to you. Be strong Nalani, may the force be with you."
Nalani nodded her head, looking back at my uncle, Rey and Corinthia before the four of us bolted down the hallway, afraid that if we don't leave soon, the First Order will attack D'Qar.
