XLIV
Corinthia's Pov
∽
War came over the horizon like a sudden rainstorm. We became anxious, scared. Violence once confined to just the battle between the Resistance and First Order now flooded the galaxy. We did what every generation has done since the dawn of time, we prepared and we trained. It was one fight and it was a fight I believed we could win.
After a week of training Chandrila's army to fly an X-Wing instead of their usual fighter ships, my last set of men readied themselves to fly out to D'Qar. My troops flashed smiles and appreciative nods as they settled themselves in their newly built X-Wings and took off, one by one.
"You've done it Alro," General Aube pats my back. "No one could've of done this job better than yourself."
"Don't flatter me General."
"You deserve it kid, it's been an honour working beside you," He reaches out and shakes my hand. "I'll see you on D'Qar."
"May the Force be with you." I call out, I begin to walk towards my own X-Wing.
"And with you."
I climb atop my ship and swing my legs into the cockpit. I sit there for awhile as Aube's ship takes off to join the others. I've trained more than two hundred troops in a week and have had no one fail to impress me. I felt like there was a sense of proudness pushing inside me, demanding me to be brave and strong. I never had this kind of bravery before, I felt good.
I did this by myself. Poe or General Organa, not even Jude, had anything to do with my accomplishment. This was all on me. I was a woman of self-confidence, I didn't need anyone to tell me what I can or cannot do.
I flick a few switches and the engines come to life with a loud roar and before I know it, I'm back in the starry galaxy.
By the time I reach D'Qar, I am met with the usual liveliness. Around me, people are busy getting things ready for the war brewing from within. My feet hit the ground and I'm immediately engulfed by my parents. My mother wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me close, gently rubbing my arm. "I'm so glad to see you Corinthia."
"Mother," My cheeks go hot and I try to get her to release me from her grip. "I'm fine, see?"
My father chuckles and kisses the top of my forehead. "You can't let your dear parents be glad to see their daughter?"
Despite the heaviness in my stomach, it fluttered at the idea of my parents missing me. Instead of fighting, I sunk into the warmth of my mother, appreciative of the simple gesture. "Alright, you have a minute." I tease.
There's something magical about my mother suddenly. She just loves everything I do, praises me and adores me for everything I've done. Last year, she would of only hugged me once and engaged in small conversation but now she's here, showing me what it's like to have a mother figure again. I can't blame her, I almost died. I'd swoon over my future kid if they got tortured by Kylo Ren too.
"Leia?" I pipe up. "Has she woken up yet?"
My father shakes his head. "They aren't sure if they ever will."
I feel a heartache in my chest. This heartache hurt for me but it also hurt for Jude. Leia was all he had left and he needed her.
"There's my girl!" Shouts Poe from behind me and I jump. He throws me over his shoulder and I thrash my legs in the air.
"Put me down!"
"No can do Arlo." He chuckled, jumping around like a child.
"Poe," My mother scolds. "She'll throw-up if you keep doing that."
"I'm a pilot mother, I can handle being upside down." I joke before Poe finally sets me down on the ground. "How is the entire fleet looking?"
"Absolutely golden, the First Order doesn't stand a chance," Poe tells me. "We've only got two issues now."
"Oh?"
"Snoke and Ren."
"No problem," I say with a smirk. "We've got Rey, Jude and Luke."
"Don't get cocky now," My father warns me, leading us towards the command room. "We may have Skywalker but they also have Isidore Ren, programmed from birth to kill anything that gets in her way."
"Sorry Pike," Poe interrupts him. "Isidore Ren was Bellamy Solo before, she wasn't programmed from birth."
"What does it matter?" My father questions. "She's not one of us anymore."
I grimace and feel my toes curl in my boots. "Well she was, and I wouldn't be surprised if she had a change of heart."
"What does that mean?" My mother asks, her blue eyes curious to know my secret.
"She's the reason Jude, Rey and I escaped the Finalizer," I explain, interested to see how Poe would react. "We wouldn't be alive if it weren't for her."
My father says nothing but a glint of hope sparkles in Poe's brown eyes as we enter the command room. Sitting in one of the chairs is Luke and beside him, Rey. They welcome us with hugs and warm smiles. Admiral Ackbar and Admiral Statura wait for us to finish our excited greetings before getting down to business.
An old friend rolls up beside me and shows a holographic map of the First Order's army.
"Thank you R2," Statura praises. "Nine massive ships, all controlled from the cockpit located on the top floor. If we target that, they have no one left to function the ships. We still have no word about Snoke's location but our insiders are still searching."
"And their bases?"
"Almost all have been destroyed." Ackbar reports.
"Alright," Poe grins, putting a hand through his hair. "What's the plan of attack?"
"Still working on it," Ackbar explains. "Now that Captain Arlo has returned, we have a better chance to navigate our way through the battleground."
"No problem," I nod, knowing I can figure out something. "What about the General?"
"Their ship is landing now," Statura looks up from his board, his face suddenly twisted. "It appears she has been wounded."
Poe's face is painted with worry and he takes off sprinting, I am quick to follow his lead. I find myself running at the same speed as him, quickly checking behind me to see Luke and Rey following us. We shove our way through the unusually big crowd. Med droids buzz their own way as well.
The door opens and Jude rushes out with Nalani, carrying her bridal style. Two men follow behind her, I assume they are her brothers, Anfra and Bli. Jude is too occupied to notice Poe and I standing but even if he did stop, I'd encourage him to help her instead.
From the doors emerge two more people that I have to squint to see. The crowd of Resistance fighters suddenly started to whisper to each other and soon enough, the whispers became confused yells. Poe sees them before I do and his mouth drops open. I follow his eyes to the girl standing before the Resistance, standing with so much bravery and pride, I feel ill.
Poe is unable to comprehend anything so he just whispers. "Bellamy?"
