8-Death Of Me
It was the day after my birthday and I was sitting in the cafeteria with Adam and we were currently eating dinner. He was talking about, something, I don't know what it is to be honest, my mind was somewhere else. I kept thinking of Vader, I had my fingers on the little bell around my neck and I twisted it causing it ding every once in awhile. I enjoyed the sound of it.
"You're not listening at all are you?" Adam snapped me out of my thoughts and I looked up to see his slightly annoyed but playful grin.
I sighed, "I'm so sorry, my mind was completely somewhere else." I dropped my hand from my necklace and took a bite of my bitter food.
"I could tell," He chuckled as he took a bite out of his bread, "Does it have anything to do with who gave you that?" He pointed towards my necklace.
Yes.
"No," I lied, "I was thinking of something Tarkin asked me to do."
He gave me a look that said 'I don't believe you' but he didn't pry any further, "So how's your wrist feeling?" He asked taking a sip of his water.
"It doesn't really hurt anymore." I admitted as I wiggled it around, there was only a slight pain but nothing I couldn't handle.
"Good, you should be able take off the cast tomorrow." He used a napkin to wipe his face and hands and he threw it on top of his tray, signaling he was finished.
I smiled happily, "Finally, I hate this stupid thing, it's been making me work slow. I'm surprised Tarkin hasn't yelled at me for how long I've been taking on, 'simple tasks', as he likes to call them."
"But you've always worked slow." He teased and I picked up a piece of my bread and tossed it at him causing him to chuckle.
"Jerk," I chuckled as I stood up and grabbed my tray, "I'm turning in for the night."
"Me too." He stood up as well and grabbed his tray before holding his hand out for mine, "I'll throw it away for you."
I smiled as I handed him my tray, "Has anyone ever told you that you're too nice?"
"Once or twice." He winked as he walked away towards the trash can. I waited by the door for him and we both stepped out together and made our way down the hallways to our rooms. "Are you ever gonna tell me who gave that to you?" He began asking about my necklace again, last night he bugged me for almost an entire hour about it but I didn't budge. I knew it was his crush and jealousy that was leading him to be so persistent.
"Nope." I responded as we turned a corner.
He groaned, "Why can't you tell me?" He slightly whined.
"Why do you need to know?" I asked in an annoyed.
"Well I would like to know who my competition is." He nudged my shoulder playfully.
I rolled my eyes as I reached my room, "Goodnight Adam." I ignored his comment and pushed in my code causing the door to open.
"I'll find out eventually." He smirked, "Goodnight beautiful." He winked and turned away towards his room.
I sighed as I closed the door and locked it. That man is so confident I'm going to magically fall for him. Sure he has a nice body and a nice face but none of it compares to.. I sighed again not wanting to think of the name of the man who's probably just going to be the death of me.
I hopped in my shower to wash away the sweat from the day and to clean my greasy hair. The warm water felt good and I closed my eyes as I enjoyed the warmth of it on my skin.
I let my imagination take its course as I thought of his arms wrapping around me from behind, imaging what it would be like if he were in here, tracing kisses along my neck as his wet hands slid down my arms and gripped my hips to pull me close to him.
I shook my head rapidly to push the dirty thoughts away. I couldn't, that could never happen. I tried remembering the last time we got close and how much I was afraid that he was going to kill me in that moment, so it would kill the excitement that was building inside of me.
Thankfully it worked and I turned the water off and wrapped myself in a towel.
What is wrong with me?
I changed into my pajamas and dried my hair before laying in bed. I was having trouble sleeping as always so I began to look up at the ceiling and count. But my counting was cut short when there was a knock on my door. I sat up and looked at the door wondering if it was just my imagination but when I heard a loud bang against it then I knew someone was actually there.
I kicked my feet over and hesitantly walked up to the door, nervous that it could be someone with ill intentions. "Who is it?" I asked.
"Open the door." I recognized the angry voice and I quickly did as he said.
"Oh my, what happened to you?" I asked as Vader stood in front of me with a slash across his face that still had blood coming out of it and he was gripping his mechanical arm.
"I need you to fix this." He spoke sternly as he held up his mechanical arm that seemed to have pieces of it missing and from what I could tell, he couldn't move it on his own.
"Go to the bed, I'll be back." I told him as I ran to the hangar to get the tools I think I might need and also tools I wasn't sure if I would need, just in case. Plus a first aid kit that I kept in there ever since the toe incident.
I ran back to my room to see him sitting on the bed, still holding onto his arm. I grabbed a chair and pulled it in front of him. His eyes never left me as I grabbed ahold of his arm and began to examine the issue. "Can you fix it?" He asked like he had no faith in me.
"I can fix anything." I spoke confidently with a smile, I still didn't look up at him though, I was afraid to meet his gaze. I heard him snort through his nose at my confidence. "You could have gone to someone else if you don't believe I could do it, I'm not the only mechanic on this station." I responded to his rudeness with an eye roll.
"I knew you were awake." My eyes widened slightly at his words but I tried hiding it, I really hope he didn't hear the things I was thinking about earlier.
I began by opening up the arm to see some of the wires were disconnected. There's the issue with the movement, I just have to fuse them back together. I worked slowly, my wrist was starting to hurt with all this movement and I didn't want to make it worse.
"What happened to your wrist?" He broke the silence in the air and I stiffened a little. I thought he knew what he did.
"I fell." I answered at the thought of him shoving and me falling onto the floor.
"I'm sorry." He apologized which took me by surprise and I finally looked up to meet his eyes.
"It's okay." I blamed myself anyway, I shouldn't have done what I did. I continued working in silence until I was done. "Try moving it." I said as I backed away to give him space now that my close proximity was no longer required.
He lifted it and wiggled the fingers, "Thank you." He responded without taking his eyes away from it as he continued to bend it and move it around.
"I don't have the pieces that are missing but it should continue working fine without them." I stood up so I could place my tools in the bag I brought and zipped it closed. My eyes shifted to the first aid kit. "Do you want me to clean your cut?" I asked hesitantly as I turned around with the kit in my hand.
He looked down to it then back up to me and he nodded. I let out a nervous sigh as I stepped forward. I was going to have to be really close to him and I needed to fight all urges. I didn't want a repeat of what happened last time.
I set the kit next to him on the bed and pulled out wipes to clean the blood, which also contained alcohol so it was going to sting. "This might hurt a little." I said as I brought the wipe to his face but he didn't flinch.
"I've felt worse." He responded without taking his eyes off of me. I did my best not to look into his eyes, I knew it would make me feel things that I didn't want to feel.
"What happened anyway?" I asked trying to break the tension that was filling the room.
He chuckled, "Wampa caught me by surprise." No wonder this cut was so harsh, Wampas have huge claws.
I smiled a little, "Never expected you to be the type to let anything get the jump on you."
"I was distracted." He admitted.
"By?" I set the wipe down and grabbed cream to place on the cut, he flinched at the coldness of it.
"It doesn't matter, just hurry up." He went back to his normal harsh tone.
"Almost done." I sighed at his bipolar attitude.
I leaned a little more forward and my necklace dangled in his eye shot. I flinched in surprise as I felt a cold hand near my neck and I looked down to see he was admiring the charm in his hand. "Do you like it?" He asked without looking away from it.
"Yes, thank you." I said as I pressed a bandage to his face and backed away, showing him I was done. "You're good to go." I half smiled and grabbed the kit. I closed it and turned around to place it over near my tool bag when I felt his hand grip my wrist so he could twist me back around.
My eyes widened at how close he was and my heart began to race nervously, he looked from my eyes then down to my cast. He grabbed it and took the cast off to reveal the very small amount of bruising that was left. He rubbed his fingers on it and the coldness of it made me want to shiver. Then just as he did before I saw a glow of yellow come from his hand and the bruising disappeared.
"We're even." He let go of my wrist and turned around to leave the room.
As soon as he was gone I let out a heavy breath and held my hand to my chest to calm down my racing heart. How does he have this affect me? Why can't I ever be in his presence without feeling like my chest is going to burst. I set the kit down and cleaned up the blood covered wipes and threw them in the trash before washing my hands and getting back in bed.
I stared up at the ceiling and began counting to not think of him, so I can fall asleep. But for the first time, it wasn't working.
~*~•~*~
I woke up to the sound of my comlink. "Yes?" I groaned into it once I pulled it from my night stand. I felt dead, I hardly got any sleep last night.
"(y/n) I need you in the hangar." The grungy voice of Tarkin came through and I sighed, I really didn't like him nor did I want his face to be the first one I see in the morning. What a crappy way to start a day.
"I'll be there right now." I stood up and put on a change of clothes before throwing my hair up in a bun and leaving my room to meet him.
Once I walked inside I saw a beat up TIE-fighter in the front, slightly away from the rest. "There you are," He addressed me when he saw me enter the room, "We found one of our ships on Geonosis, it could use some work. I want it in pristine condition when you're done." He spoke with authority.
I mentally rolled my eyes, "It'll be done Admiral." I nodded respectively and he walked away without another word, as usual. He was always so rude.
I walked up to the fighter and it wasn't in too bad of shape so it shouldn't take me long. I began to try banging out dents but was stopped when I heard a beeping sound, "What the hell?" I spoke to myself as I opened up the entrance and poked my head inside to follow the noise. It was coming from under the seat, I moved a few pieces of debris out of my way and my eyes widened when I saw the red countdown.

I pulled myself out of the ship and started running but I wasn't quick enough and the blast hit me causing me to fly roughly against the wall and that was the last thing I remembered when everything went black.
