3-A New Record
(a/n The person I have in mind for Adam is Dean Geyer for anyone who might want a visual of him but of course you can always ignore this and picture him anyway you want! (: )
I was done.
I hadn't called him back though, nor has he decided to come back. I was too afraid, I felt like me talking back meant the two chances rule no longer applied to me. In a way I feel like him not killing me then and there WAS my second chance.
I sat there on the floor admiring my work, I was happy with it though, let's just hope he is too.
"You're done?"
I jumped at the voice and turned my head in fear of it being him but when I saw Adam, my racing heart came back to it's normal slow and steady pace. "Yeah for the past hour and a half." I sighed. Yes I've been sitting here for well over an hour too scared to call Vader. Don't judge me.
He knitted his brows together, "Why haven't you called him then? He sent me here to check on your progress."
My eyes widened slightly, "Um," I looked away from him, damn it I can't hide anymore, "I'm going to be honest, I'm scared." I looked back to him and he had a sympathetic look.
"Believe me when I tell you that there isn't a single person in this station who isn't afraid, me included," He walked up to me and knelt down next to me since I was sitting cross-legged on the floor, "But the longer you take, the more angry he's going to be."
I sighed, "Can you tell him I just finished?" I asked with hope that he would lie for me.
He chuckled and nodded before bringing his comlink to his mouth, "She just finished my Lord."
"Send her to me." He responded almost instantly and spoke in the same threatening tone he did earlier.
Oh force why does he want me to come to him and not just come here?
Adam stood up and held his hand out to me, "Best not to keep him waiting, I'll take you there." I accepted his hand and he pulled me to my feet but he pulled me a little closer than he needed to so I was slightly pressed against him. He smirked down at me and I stepped back with a nervous chuckle. He was going a little far with this flirting thing. He led me out of the room and down the hall to wherever Vader was until we stood out of a closed door, "Go ahead."
I looked to him scared, "You're not coming in with me?"
He shook his head, "He didn't ask for me." He gave me a little wave with a smile and walked away, leaving me standing in front of this door on my own. I stood there for maybe five minutes until I breathed heavily and was about to knock but the door slid open on it's own. I couldn't see anyone inside so I slowly entered. I looked around the room, there was a black desk at the very end that was scattered with papers and other loose objects, to the right was a black leather couch, and that's when I saw him to the left leaning over a small table. He wasn't wearing the hood so I could finally see his blonde hair, but that didn't make him any less intimidating.
"Come here," He demanded and I reluctantly walked to him and stopped when I was about two feet away, "Closer," He said in the same tone and I moved even closer to the point where our shoulders almost touched, "I did the math." He looked up from some prints that were in front of him on the table and met my eyes. I felt like cowering into a corner due to the intensity of the yellow glow.
"And?" I asked and once again my voice came out more high pitched than normal.
"You were right," He responded and I almost let a smile appear on my lips but his next words made me stop, "And you were wrong." He was now fully facing me, he towered over me by almost a whole foot.
"How?" I questioned, confused on how I can be both wrong and right.
"It does increase the accuracy but not by twenty-five percent, only by fifteen." He glared down at me intimidatingly.
Wow I was a little off that doesn't mean I deserve to die though does it?
"Did I say you were gonna die?" He knitted his brows at me with an annoyed expression.
Did I say that out loud?
"You didn't have to." He responded to my thoughts and my eyes widened at my realization.
This is how he knew I was lying earlier when he confronted me about the plans. He knew the answer before the question even left his lips.
"You can read my mind?" I asked surprised and slightly more nervous than before.
Not only do I have to watch my mouth but now I have to watch my thoughts? I'm doomed.
"Ever since I stepped on the station, yours are the loudest," He snorted as he stepped closer, "Tell me, are you disappointed that I don't have four eyes, a tail, and what was the last one? Oh yeah, scaly skin?" He folded his arms across his chest and stared down at me waiting for a response.
I don't feel like there's a correct answer to this question.
"No?" I answered unsure of my response.
He snorted through his nose and turned around to walk behind his desk, he sat on the chair and began shifting through the papers like he was looking for something specific. After a minute or two his eyes snapped up to me. "You can go now." He spoke annoyed like it was an obvious thing, How was I supposed to know, he didn't exactly say anything. "Well I assumed that me walking away from you was an indication that I no longer wanted this conversation to continue." He waved his hand like I was a bug he was shooing away. "I'll contact you once I've looked over the ship."
I sighed, "Yes sir." I nodded and turned to exit the room. I was almost power walking, eager to get out of here.
"Oh and if you ever talk back to me again your thoughts will become a reality." He threatened causing me to stop in my tracks just as I reached the door.
"Yes sir." I said again with a little more fear and I continued walking so I was out of the room and I let out a sigh of relief when I was no longer in his presence. I walked along the corridor trying to remember where exactly my room was when I walked into Adam.
"Hey," He smiled, "How did it go?"
I shrugged, "I'm alive so better than I thought." I joked, I'm the type to use humor to make myself feel better about situations. Because deep down I was scared and angry that I ever decided to take up this job. But in my defense, actually meeting Darth Vader never once crossed my mind, how stupid of me.
"Come on," He grabbed onto my arm, "You've been working hours and I didn't see you eat breakfast so we're gonna put some food in you." I followed him even though the thought of eating that food wasn't great but I started to feel my stomach growl. He led me into the mess hall and we grabbed a tray of, I honestly don't know what it is. I followed to a table that had two other guys sitting and eating, "(y/n) this is Kyle and Mike, guys this is (y/n)." I sat down in front of the one known as Mike and Adam sat next to me. They both said their hellos and we all began discussing our jobs. I learned that both Mike and Kyle worked with Adam in weapons and they both seemed impressed when I told them I was the mechanic who was upgrading the TIE-fighters.
"That seems like a lot of wor-"
He was cut off by the sound of the cafeteria doors bursting open roughly, they slammed against the wall creating a loud bang, "Who has been in my office?!" Vader strutted in with rage clear on his face. Wait I was just in there, I began to raise my hand but Adam shook his head and used his hand to bring mine back down. The entire room was dead quiet as everyone looked to him in fear, his eyes scanned along the entire room as he met everyone's eyes, including mine, they stayed on mine a little longer than most peoples which made me incredibly nervous. "Whoever it was, took something from me and if I don't get it back." He raised his hand to the poor soul who happened to be the closest to him and he began to be choked by an invisible force. "I will kill you all one by one." He growled as he closed his fist tightly and we heard a crack as the man fell to the floor.
I looked at the man's body in horror, "Oh my god." I whispered, despite losing everyone I have ever loved, I've never seen anyone be murdered before.
"I want it back." He snapped as he turned around and with the wave of his hand the doors flew open and he exited. The room was still silent as everyone kept their eyes to the door expecting him to return. But after a few moments people began to talk again, mostly about what just happened, and a pair of clonetroopers walked in and carried the body of the man away.
I pushed my tray away from me, "I've suddenly lost my appetite." I sighed as I thought of the man I just watched get murdered and wondering what it was that Vader was missing that led be so angry.
"Maybe he's missing a tampon." Kyle scoffed and my eyes widened as the two other men at the table chuckled.
"He has ears everywhere, be careful with what you say," I warned him. "Or think." I added with a mumble. They all looked at me funny and I was beginning to think I was the only one who knew about his little mind trick, or at least the only one at this table who does. I stood up and grabbed my tray, "It was nice meeting you two but I'm gonna turn in for the day."
Adam stood up, "I'll come with you."
"No," I stopped him, " You finish your food, I just want to go take a nap or something." I half-smiled and he nodded before sitting back down.
"Alright well when you leave just make a right and then a left." He gave me directions to my room and I thanked him that I wouldn't be getting lost.
After throwing my tray away I was walking along the hallways of the Death Star, following the directions just as Adam had given them. I passed by a familiar door, Vaders, and I could hear a crash from inside. I quickly picked up my pace to get away from his door so I wouldn't be caught up in his wrath like the man from the cafeteria.
I was just about to turn a corner when my body stopped moving, like I was being held by an invisible force. "Come here." I recognized his soft, yet menacing voice.
I looked to my right to see him standing outside of his door, "Well if you'd let me go I can." I told him referring to the force hold he had on me. I suddenly felt my body relax as the hold loosened. He stepped into his office and I made my way there and entered to see the room a complete mess.
"I checked on the fighter." He spoke without looking at me as he kept is attention on his holographic table. "It was good. I want the rest done."
"I'll start first thing in the morning." I nodded and kept my voice as respectful as I could.
"Good." He waved his hand and walked towards his desk, just like he did before. I took that as him ending the conversation and I turned to leave. "Wait," He stopped me and I turned to meet his gaze, "You want to ask me something." It was more of a statement than a question.
And he was right, "I was wondering what it is that you're missing."
He narrowed his eyes, "Why does it matter?"
"How is anyone supposed to know what to look for if you don't tell them?" I questioned a little annoyed but I did my best to sound respectful so he wouldn't take it as me talking back.
"Whoever took it knows." He responded as he leaned in his chair and folded his arms.
"Right, well that's all I wanted to say so I'll get out of your way now," I turned back to the door and my eyes caught a colorful object underneath his couch. It seemed out of place, "Is it that?" I pointed towards the object and I saw his eyes narrow at it.
"Bring it to me." He demanded and I walked over and picked it up to admire it, it was a string of colorful beads. I walked over and placed it on his desk. He grabbed it and as he eyed it I could swear I saw a hint of grief in his features, but it was gone as quickly as it came. "Thanks." He mumbled as he opened a box and placed it neatly inside. His fingers trailed lightly on the beads before I saw him sigh and he closed the box.
"Was that it?" I asked and he nodded as he placed the box inside a drawer, "So you killed that man for no reason." The words came out of my mouth before I could stop them.
He smirked up at me, "I wouldn't say for no reason, I didn't like what he was thinking." He shrugged nonchalantly.
"Doesn't everyone know that you can hear them?" I asked and he shook his head.
"I prefer that they didn't, it shows me who's loyal and who isn't," He lifted a ball on his desk with the force and began floating it above his palm, I became mesmerized by it until his next words snapped me out of it, "So don't say anything unless you want to end up like him." He threatened without looking away from the ball.
That's two death threats in one day. A new record.
"I won't say anything." I sighed and turned around so I could leave the room.
"(y/n)."
"Yes?" I turned slightly so I could see him from the corner of my eye.
"Sorry about your brother." He didn't look away from the ball like it was the only thing keeping him calm. My eyes slightly widened, I hadn't thought of my brother all day and the mention of him cracked open the wound I was suppressing. I was also taken aback that he would even mention it, let alone apologize for it. And how he would even know, but if he heard my tail, eye, scaly skin joke then he has most likely heard me think of my brother.
"Thanks." I mumbled as I left his office with tears escaping my eyes.
(a/n So guess who just watched Revenge of the Sith and has become depressed for the hundredth time? ME. I hope you liked this chapter, I had a lot of fun writing it! I know the apology seems out of place for Vader BUT it's there for a reason and you will find out later why it fits so well here (: )
