Pretty (13)
Jane's POV
•-•-•-•-•
I'm barely permitted to move from my current position on the sofa, everyone pitching in their assistance whenever necessary. My dominant arm is broken, and my prosthetic one is difficult to work with.
Seeing as I rarely use it as is, I've been trying to now and the end result is typically either me dropping something or someone stopping my actions and doing it for me.
On the bright side, Lucas has finally woken up. He's been moving around ever since his friends explained to him where we're stationed, who my group and I am and what exactly had happened while he was asleep.
He was practically in hibernation, but it's not his fault for that.
It's clear that he's still adjusting, but he's getting used to everything. Slowly yet surely.
Abby has been spending more time with Éloïse and Aaren when she has the time for it.
My brother spends most of his time with me nowadays, same with El, and I'm thankful for it. Although they do need to mix more with the rest of the group.
I grin a bit to myself, knowing Aaren would scoff at that and deny it. Éloïse would most likely just go with it.
At the moment, I have a book set on my lap so I can pass the time by losing myself in reading, as there isn't much else for me to do.
Aaren sits to my left on a box, twirling his crowbar with ease, while Éloïse is drawing on my right. She seems content as her pencil dashes across the paper expertly.
Abigail's playing with toys that Daiki and Veo has found not too long ago. Miss Ramirez is knitting and Mister Harvey is carving a pocket-sized sculpture out of a scrap piece of wood.
Lucas, Jake and Eric are having a discussion about a variety of different things. Daiki and Veo went out a few minutes ago. Leon is sharpening his daggers, and that leaves Olivia to stalk the previous two gentlemen.
That girl is really getting on all of our nerves for many reasons.
One, because she keeps going after Veo, who only ever shows interest in my brother. I've noticed the stolen glances and little smiles from the pair. I ain't blind.
Then two, when Veo doesn't react to her, which is every time she tries something, she goes to Daiki. This doesn't sit well with El the most.
She's a nice girl, but if you get on your bad side you better pray for your life.
Just ask Aaren.
Éloïse is managing to keep her temper on lock for the sake of the group, and so is Aaren, but I personally am getting close to strangling Olivia. She needs to stop before I snap and put her back in her place.
I'm sure that Éloïse would gladly join me.
My attention is drawn to the front doors as they open to reveal Daiki and Veo entering with Olivia behind them. She's not shutting up, and the two males look more than annoyed at her behavior.
I flicker my gaze back up to them to see her leaning her face in closer to Veo's and resting a hand on Daiki's upper arm.
Aaren tsks in irritation, and I look his way. He stopped messing with his crowbar and is instead now gripping it so tight that his fingers start to turn white.
My eyes darting to my right, El looks as if she's ready to break her pencil in half as she bites the wood below the eraser part.
My circuit just ran short.
"That's it," I murmur, slamming my book onto the coffee table, which makes everyone look at me.
"Mister Harvey, please cover Abby's ears for me," is all I say before marching over towards my target.
As soon as I reach them, I grab Olivia's arm and yank her away from the two, then proceed in to shove her off to the side. She stumbles and I stand in front of the surprised males, my hand near my knife as a scowl rests on my face.
"What do you think you're doing?" she snaps, having the audacity to do so.
I let out an exasperated huff and growl, "It's more like, what are you doing? This is the fucking zombie apocalypse, which if you're too idiotic to realize, means that you have to focus on keeping your group and yourself alive. Not flirting or trying to get into these two guys' pants who obviously aren't interested in you."
She frowns deeper and retorts, "As if you would know how to protect a group—let alone a man."
I open my mouth to argue when Éloïse butts in.
"Hey. In case you haven't noticed bitch, you are digging your own grave as we speak. So you better step the hell down before I smash your teeth in.
"The people who have protected- sorry, is protecting and leads us, are these two fellows right in front of your face. Without them, you'd either be eating humans or out there on your own to get ripped apart."
El stands next to me with her bat in her hands, glaring at Olivia, who doesn't give up.
"Oh, really? And what have you done? Draw?"
"She's also saved your ass, and knowing more than you should know from living on a farm, she knows this town better than anyone from her artwork. Aside from these two," I state angrily, throwing a thumb behind me.
Jake speaks up, his words crystal clear as he crosses his arms, "Olivia. You either get your shit together, or we will let Jane and Éloïse go ham on you."
I spot a mischievous smirk spread across Aaren's face from the corner of my eyes, his tone neutral with a hint of amusement.
"That ain't gon' be pretty."
