Chapter Eleven
Halloween was here in no time. The younger students were upset about not being able to leave the Academy, but the castle was decorated and there was plenty going on so that they would be occupied. The older students were all gearing up for Selina's party even though it wasn't until later that night. Usually parties wouldn't begin until ten or eleven, but because of the midnight curfew doors opened at eight. Probably the earliest party in history, but it had to be done.
Considering it was an all black party, it was easy to find an outfit. Idella helped me pick something out. I refused to wear a dress since it was freezing out so I went with a pair of black skinny jeans and long sleeve black crop top. Although I first picked out a simple black sweater, Idella convinced me I would stick out if I didn't show a little skin. Around seven forty five we dressed to go. Idella was wearing a pair of black jeans as well but a crop top that reached the top of her ribs, revealing her entire stomach. I had forgotten how much she enjoyed fitness and was suddenly jealous of her toned muscular stomach. "Please let me add more makeup to you," Idella said walking over. "It's Halloween, we have an excuse." Her eyes were outlined in black and her eyelashes were long and thick. It was weird to see, considering she usually wasn't too concerned with her appearance. Then again she was right, it was Halloween.
"Fine," I said with a sigh sitting down.
"Perfect," she said taking out her makeup kit. "I'm going to add a bit of blue eyeliner on you to make your eyes stand out." It was more than a little, but what the hell, it was Halloween.
We left the castle a little after eight, figuring no one was going to be there exactly at eight. We were wrong. At eight the house was filled with eager students ready to celebrate Halloween. I wasn't going to lie, Selina's brick manor looked amazing in the night. It was decorated as if it was a haunted mansion covered in cobwebs and black candles with the full moon reflection on the ocean behind. The entire entrance path to her house was surrounded with carved pumpkins all lit with candles. Clearly, someone used magic outside of the school. The three of us entered in through the massive dark wooden door. As I was standing in the spacious entrance way, it reminded me of how jealous I was of where she lived. The brick manor was located right on the coast. The large windows gave a great view of the full moon reflecting on the black water. Although her house was surrounded by trees, it wasn't far from the main part of the town and you could see all the muggles running around in their costumes. Weird tradition muggles have...
Colin came with us of course. Idella's arm was wrapped tightly around his. "I'll go get us drinks," Colin said looking between the two of us with a friendly smile. Idella released his hand and he walked away.
"I can't believe how many people showed up," I said shaking my head. If Selina's parents knew about this they would absolutely kill her. People were already drinking, I can only imagine how the night would go on.
"I can believe it," Idella said. "Everyone has been waiting for a party like this. Where we don't have to worry about a teacher coming around the corner." All the students obeyed Selina's 'all black' rule. Suddenly I spotted Selina coming down the stairs dressed in a tight fitting black dress with cutouts revealing her ribs as her long blonde hair hung by her sides. I had no idea how she was wearing those heels, especially while drinking, but she was pulling it off.
"Welcome to my home," she said loudly as the crowd silenced and turned to her. Her popularity would only increase after this. "No one go upstairs. Nothing else to say...Happy Halloween." She raised her glass quickly before taking a big sip and everyone cheered. I spotted the familiar blonde boy pushing through the crowd. Colin came back with drinks in hand. I took a sip and it burned, Firewhiskey. But I continued drinking because I knew that when I saw Kent along with Grant, I didn't want to have any nerves.
After two drinks I was starting to feel the buzz. Even more people showed up to the party. People also began getting friendlier, coming up to me and saying hi. One kid even hugged me, telling me that I was great and to never change. Once again I spotted Nephele along with Thomas Carlton, looking extremely comfortable in the back corner of the room. She was pretty much sitting on him, laughing and pushing a hand through his light brown hair. Kent will probably murder her if he see's her, after her murders Thomas of course. It was almost nine o'clock so everyone was chugging back drinks before we had to head back to the castle. Idella and I were on our third and that was usually where I cut myself off. Selina was the center of the party. She was constantly being surrounded and handed drinks. I watched as she stumbled through the crowds and at one point she just kicked her heels off and went barefoot without a second thought. Thea and Nelly were running around behind her all night. That's when you know she had far too much to drink. I shook my head, she would somehow get away with this all too.
I felt bad third wheeling with Colin and Idella, I'm sure they wanted some alone time. "I-I'll be right back," I told them. "Just going to...refill my cup." Idella smiled as I took off towards the kitchen. In reality I was looking for Charlie or Kent. As I passed around the house I couldn't stop sipping my drink. Surprisingly it was made really well, but the time I passed around it was empty. When I stepped outside on the dock to see if Kent may be out there, I spotted Cole and a few friends with icorany once more and left quickly. Predictable. What did Selina even see in him anyways? I felt my head spinning a bit, I probably shouldn't be drinking too fast. The house was packed and I was pushing through crowds.
"Having fun?" someone said in a giggly tone. I turned to see Selina looking at me. Her makeup running a bit, hair a bit wild, and dress pulled up even shorter. She looked drunk as ever. "Looking for someone?" she smirked. I noticed she managed to ditch Thea and Nelly.
"And what do y-you mean by that?" I asked her barely able to get my words out. Putting my hand on my head realizing the dizzy feeling I was getting. I should stop now. This was definitely not a usual for me, so I had a very small tolerance. After looking at her, I wondered how I possibly looked at the moment.
"I have been seeing you eye Kent Reid at school," she smirked breaking out into laughter.
"What about Cole?" I pointed out.
"I'm b-busy hosting," she added stumbling over her words and motioning around the the crowd. I noticed she was still barefoot. "Look there is your man," she added with a point. I turned my head and spotted Kent and Grant entering the kitchen. Selina then disappeared from my side. Did I approach him? Deep down I knew it was a bad idea...but I was feeling courageous. Quickly pushing through the crowd I reached them.
"Hi Kent. Grant," I greeted with a nod. Grant looked surprised and Kent smiled.
"I need a drink," Grant replied looking unamused and very sober. He stepped away towards the beers and grabbed one. Kent grabbed a cup and began pouring two different drinks. Handing me one. I took it. Now I know that I should stop...but I couldn't deny a drink from Kent.
"Glad to see you could make it," he said smiling. "Seems like you're ahead of me," he motioned towards the cup and I nodded with a laugh.
"Kent?" Grant called seeming annoyed, but I didn't care. Kent seemed to care though.
"I'll see you later," he whispered quickly stepping away. Sadness hit me. He was going to leave me like that?
Shaking it off I went to find Idella but she and Colin looked...cozy. The two were dancing all while kissing in the middle of the room surrounded by others doing the same. I turned and left, surprisingly crashing into Charlie. "There you are!" he exclaimed loudly and very drunk. I had never seen him this bad before. He wrapped his tan arms around me tightly, slightly spilling the beer that was in his hand. "Are you having fun?" he asked with a silly smile. "Because-because I am having fun." I laughed. Clearly. "Do you know how I could have even more fun?"
"How?" I asked with a laugh.
"Help me find that beautiful cousin of yours," he said with a stutter to his tone as he laughed. I laughed with him while rolling my eyes. I looked around at the crowd of people surrounding us closely.
"There she is!" I said spotting the familiar blonde head walking through the crowd.
"Now is my chance!" Charlie exclaimed dropping his beer, spilling it completely, and pushing through the crowd. Yet he suddenly came to a stop when he saw who was following behind her...Cole. The two were heading up the stairs. Selina was wobbling but turned to look at him with a flirtatious smile as she slowly grabbed onto his left hand. He looked just as dazed as her and smirked back as they continued up the stairs. Charlie turned and faced me with a defeated look. Reaching down to the ground, picking up an empty beer bottle, and sipping it, he walked away. Apparently Selina was done hosting her party. Shaking that disgusting image from my head I turned and left.
The one thing I did love about the Beckingham's mansion was the dock overlooking the ocean. Now that Cole was clearly occupied, I didn't mind going out there. Taking a seat on the bench I almost missed the seat and had to catch myself from slipping to the ground. It only made me realize I finished that last drink rather fast. I rested my head back against the wall and stared at the beautiful full moon. "Told you I would see you later," came the voice of Kent as he sat down next to me.
"Hey," I responded moving a bit closer to him, surprising even myself. He smiled at me looking amused. "Not going to leave me again are you?" He seemed surprised.
"That was just because Grant was watching us," Kent admitted. "Having fun?" he asked with a bit of a laugh.
"I am now," I replied with a smirk. He nodded in amusement. "Where is Grant?" I asked.
"With some girl," Kent said shaking his head. "So I came to find you."
"And why is that?" I asked him. I couldn't believe half the things that were coming out of my mouth, but they came out so quickly. My mind was dizzy and everything was becoming a blur. For a second this felt like a dream. Then it truly became a dream when Kent started leaning in. That answered my question. I wanted to pinch myself but his lips brushed upon mine before I got the chance. Quickly I kissed him back, feeling like this truly was a dream. He placed his arms around my waist as I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling myself even closer.
"There you are," someone said breaking my dream moment. Turning in my place, Idella was standing there with Colin wearing a knowing glance. Her eyes were wide but a small smile formed. "Sorry to ruin the 'moment' but its eleven forty and we need to get back on time." I couldn't believe how dreamlike this all felt. Kent removed one arm from my waist but left the other.
"Eleven forty already?" I heard him ask her in disappointment.
"Yes it looks like someone is going to be needing some...help back to the castle," Idella said stepping towards me.
"No, no I'm good," I answered standing up. More like attempting to stand up as I lost my feet placement and stumbled. Luckily Kent's arm was still around my waist.
"Apparently not," Idella added amused taking my hands.
"I better go find Grant," Kent said standing up. "I'll see you back at the castle." He smiled at me and kissing me quickly on the cheek. I dreamily smiled back while waving.
"B-bye!" I called.
"Time to get you back to the castle," she said to me handing me another glass. I quickly took a sip.
"This isn't Firewhiskey!" I yelled at her while shoving the cup back in her hand.
"No it's Tremai and you need it, trust me." Colin laughed as they guided me into the door. Tremai was a potion that helped sober someone up twice as fast as they normally would. The party was slowly dispersing as no one wanted to get suspended. I only hoped I could pull myself together before the teachers at the gate saw me.
