Chapter 41

"Hey, come here. I need you to help me fold these clothes."

I turned around and sighed in resignation as a stack of walking clothes approached me. Sticking out my arms, I let Mom rest the stack of clothes against me.

"Where's May?"I groaned. "I need that brat to help me with this—"

"Don't call your sister a brat," Mom snipped. "Go to the main room and ask your sister politely to help you."

"Alright, alright," I muttered.

"Did you just talk back to me?"

"What? I was just responding—" I sighed. "Oh, never mind..."

Setting the clothes down in the main room, I called for May who immediately popped up and sat down happily with me to fold the clothes. Moments later, Mom entered the room to help us.

"So," I said, keeping my eyes on the pair of pants in front of me. "How were the patients today?"

"All of them were doing well," Mom smiled, patting her stack. "Thank goodness for that really. One of my patients who came in today had a knife wound in her side. Someone stabbed her for some reason she wouldn't tell me. But I still cannot believe that person had the nerve to hurt her."

Bump. Bump. Bump.

"Listen to me, Sakura. People who kill or hurt anyone for any reason are scum. They are worse than scum. Grow up with a kind heart. Learn to heal and love. Like me, we doctors help the world become a better place. I won't complain if you take after me. I'll teach you."

Bump. Bump. Bump.

"It's strange, you know. How both people who takes lives and people who save lives can hold the same knife in their hands but do completely different things with it."

Bump. Bump. Bump.

"Sakura? You hear me, yes?"

Bump. Bump. Bump.

"Yes, Mom."

"Are you sure about that?"

My hands froze. That voice.

BumpBumpBump.

Slowly, I looked up. A scream escaped from my throat before I could catch it as I stared at the horrifying scene unfurling before me.

Mom's eyes had turn hollow, and her skin was slowly wasting away to a grayish-pastel color. Besides her, May's body was going through the same change. Both of their bones began to protrude more and more against their thinning skin as their hair began to fall off.

Then out of nowhere, slowly, like he had grown out from the ground, a pale large, scarred man appeared from behind Mom with his hands on her shoulders. A different man arose from the ground, and this time, he was dressed as a Royal soldier. He placed his hands on May's shoulders and stared at me listlessly.

I was rooted in place with fear as I stared at them, my breath lost. Their hollow eyes suddenly glowed red; it was like staring at a lighting red ball. Then, out of nowhere, they smiled so widely that the ends of their mouths almost touch their eyes.

I screamed. I screamed and screamed, but I couldn't hear myself at all.

Mom moved forward and opened her palm up at me, offering me something in her hand. I gasped and glanced down. In her palm, a clean dagger flashed up towards me. In its reflection, I could see myself shaking from fear.

My eyes had changed again; they were red and dilated, bright with terror. I blinked again, and all of a sudden, I couldn't see my reflection. But it wasn't because the dagger had disappeared.

It was because it was now covered in blood.

"That's my blood you have on your dagger, girl."

BUMPBUMPBUMPBUMP

Before I could look back up, I was falling, and the scene in front of me disappeared. I shut my eyes, steeling myself for the impact, but it never came.

I didn't open my eyes for a few more seconds before realizing I had stopped falling. Resting my hand on my chest, I listen to my heartbeat which was so clear in my ears for a moment. Slowly, I opened my eyes and found myself staring at an endless white blank space.

It seemed like I was in a reverie.

Standing up, I cautiously walked around, my footsteps echoing with every step I took in the empty space. Suddenly, I felt a cold breeze behind me. I turned around; it was almost like time had slowed down as I turned and caught a glimpse of the same pair of red eyes I had. Before I could see anything else though, a hand covered my view and clasped tightly on my face.

Then, I felt a hand begin to press against my throat. I tried to claw it off me, but it just applied more and more pressure as I struggled.

I couldn't breathe. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't—someone help me—help—

"HEY!"

                                                                             ...

I felt myself fall again and suddenly, my head hit the ground. I gasped, trying to reign in my bearings, but the only thing I could make out were two voices yelling in the distance.

"Sakura! Sakura! Wake up!" I heard Catherine's worried voice above me, and her cold hands lightly slapping my cheek.

"W—what?" I groggily pushed myself up.

"Hey! Hey! You guys stop!" Tristan's yell pulled the rest of my weariness away.

I looked up just in time to see Justin aim a kick at Jake's head. Jake blocked and attempted to knock Justin off balance by sweeping his feet underneath him, but Justin jumped back before he could try.

Under normal circumstances, I would've just fell back asleep, coming to the conclusion the two were just being idiots. But Catherine's worried tone and Tristan's urgent yell made me jump to my feet.

Justin started to run at Jake again. I jumped in front of Jake before Justin could attack him. He immediately skidded in his tracks; my eyes narrowed at Justin's gloomy and dark ambiance. He hardly got this angry unless something really bad happened.

"What's going on here?" I asked.

The two of them kept quiet and glared at each other, letting my question hang in the tense air. Tristan and Catherine stood at the back, watching the two carefully while Yuri was still snoring in the back like there was no tomorrow.

I knew Justin was never that happy when Jake joined us, and even after we started to eat and sleep together, Justin had still not fully opened up to Jake. But to be fighting like this, I never knew Justin was so against having him in our group.

"What's wrong?" I repeated.

Neither of them seemed as if they wanted to say anything. Finally Jake spoke up.

"You tell me! He attacked me out of nowhere even though I didn't do anything wrong!" Jake spat.

"Don't act like you didn't do anything wrong when I clearly caught you—" Justin growled.

"I already said, it was a misunderstanding!" Jake interrupted him, his eyes flashing with impatience.

"Yeah, well I'm beginning to think letting you come with us is a big misunderstanding as well," Justin muttered.

"Wait, I still don't get it. What. Happened?" I asked.

"You too," Justin turned on me angrily, ignoring my question for the third time. "Why did you let him take advantage of you?"

"What?" I asked, taken aback. "What are you talking about?"

"Listen," Jake stepped in. " When I woke up, I thought it was a medical problem. I was just trying to help her—"

"Then why were you choking her?" Justin demanded.

"What?" I asked.

"Jake was choking you!" Justin snapped, whirling on me.

"No! That's not the truth!" Jake cried. "You had your hands around your throat, and you were muttering to yourself about killing yourself! I tried to pry your hands off your throat, but then he came out of nowhere and kicked me off you!"

I was choking myself? It might be because of that nightmare I had...but that's got nothing to do with Jake. I bit my lip and shook my head. "Hold on, Justin. Calm down. There's an explanation to this—"

"A reason to explain why Jake was choking you to death?" Justin narrowed his eyes at me.

I clenched my fists. I couldn't just announce to the group that I had some crazy dream where I was suddenly being choked. How plausible did it sound to have a pair of red eyes choking my throat? That would just make it seem like I was trying to back up Jake with silly thoughts, and that would only rile Justin up more.

"H—he wasn't choking me!" I tried.

"Right," Justin nodded. "And you weren't screaming help either—"

"She was screaming that before—" Jake started.

"I don't want to hear another word come out of you," Justin spat, venom spewing from the tone of his voice.

My mouth moved soundlessly as I tried to come up with a way to calm him down and convince him that Jake wasn't doing anything. Justin watched me struggle for words before turning his eyes away from me. "I can't believe you're trying to back up somebody who just tried to kill you. Have you still not seen how cruel this world is?"

I flinched in surprise when Justin looked back at me. His eyes, which were once brimming with anger were now dulled and blank. I took a shaky step forward, but Justin shook his head and took a step back.

"I need to cool my head down," Justin said, turning away. "I'll be back."

Helplessly, I watched him walk away from us until he was out of sight. A deep hollow feeling started to drill itself into my heart. Behind me, Jake punched something and cussed. Tristan was beside me, saying something, although I couldn't hear him because his words were just a buzz in my ears.

I'll be back. I'll be back. I'll be back.

As the words repeated themselves in my head, I was suddenly transported into a field of yellow flowers. Looking around, I realized that was all I could see as the field seemed to stretch on and on. The sun was bright, and there were no clouds in the sky as I whirled around to try and find out where I was.

Then, out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a yellow haired boy. He lifted his finger up; a bird was perched on his finger and suddenly took flight. I squinted my eyes, trying to get a glimpse of him clearly in the field of yellow, but he had a hat on that blocked his eyes.

As he walked farther down the garden, I suddenly felt anxiousness and fear shoot through me like an arrow, and then, my body began to move all on its own. I was running towards him. I had never seen this boy before, but for some reason, I felt so scared. Scared of losing him.

Before I could reach him though, the boy turned around and smiled at me. "Don't worry. I'll be back."

"Sakura!"

I gasped and sat up. I turned my eyes towards a very worried looking red haired boy. Tristan grabbed my shoulder. "Are you alright? You collapsed out of nowhere!"

"I'm fine," I muttered, clutching my head. What was that? Who was that?

Tristan walked over to Catherine and told her something, but I was too immersed in my thoughts to listen to what they were saying.

"Sakura," Catherine was suddenly next to me. "Why don't you rest? Tristan and the rest of them will go out to find Justin. Don't worry."

"The sky..." I pointed up.

"What about the sky?" she asked.

"It's filled with so many clouds today," I murmured.

She stared at me for a long moment before nodding. "Yes...it is. Why don't you try going back to sleep?"

"No!" I gasped, covering my ears.

No, no, no. If I go back to sleep, I'll get nightmares again. I'll get weird people coming towards me again. I'll get Justin mad again. Stay awake...I have to stay awake!

I sensed more people rushing over to me, their words mixing together as they tried to calm me down. I shook my head over and over again until the world spun. My eyes caught a strand of golden hair, and I looked up to see Yuri glancing down at me with a distressed expression.

I'll be back.

Then, my eyes closed on their own, and I felt my mind go dark.

                                                                          ...

I was standing alone and freezing in a bare room with nothing except for a window that let in only a little bit of sunlight. When I blinked again, a boy stood in front of me. His cold, hard caramel stared emotionlessly at me.

I knew this boy. I knew him. His name...his name...it was

He suddenly turned around and started to walk away.

No! No! Don't leave me alone here!

Chasing after him, I stretched out my hand as far as I could. Just when my finger was about to touch his shoulder, he disappeared. Desperately looking around, I tried to search for the boy again, but I was the only one remaining in the dark room.

Roar!

The sound of waves crashing into each other suddenly echoed in the dark room. Ominous chills ran up my spine. Something wet suddenly touched my feet.

Looking down ,I realized in horror that water was beginning to seep in and had already reached above my ankles. I searched for an exit, a ledge, anything to keep me above the water.

Suddenly, the boy appeared again. He was next to a door that had appeared out of nowhere this  time, and in his hand, he held a key. I tried moving my legs towards him but it was like trying to walk with a thousand bricks on my feet.

The boy placed the key in the keyhole, and the door clicked open. He took one step forward and looked back.

My outstretched arms started to shake as they tried to reach him, touch him. By now, the water had reached my chest. Every breath I took was beginning to become harder and harder to breathe. The boy slowly reached out his hand and his fingertip touched my shaking one.

Take it!

The water level had reached up to my throat now.

Save me!

The boy dropped his hand and walked to the other side. It was like there was an invisible barrier so that water wouldn't reach it and instead continued to fill the room as if the door did not exist. The door closed until I could only see the boy's left eye.

Wait!

And the water pulled me under the surface.

Wait...

Before my mind went blank, a single name resonated through my head.

Justin.

                                                                               ...

"Sakura!"

I opened my eyes and found myself staring into a pair of crying sapphire eyes. The color of these eyes were quite beautiful; they sparkled brightly with different shades of blues. I suddenly realized I was being stared at by a crying girl and blinked.

"She's awake guys!" she yelled.

Within a second, three more people crowded around me. A redhead, a blond boy, and an ebony colored hair boy.

"Thank goodness," the red-headed boy clutched his chest. "You went for a moment."

"She definitely went into shock," the boy with ebony colored hair muttered.

"Miss, are you alright?" the blond boy asked. "Justin didn't come back yet, but I'm sure he will today."

My brain felt as if it had just been eaten, digested, and then thrown up by an animal. I turned my head slowly to look at the people surrounding me.

"Who..." I stared. "Are you?"
