Chapter 1: The Future Changes.

Usagi looked out as the Starlights were preparing to leave with their princess, her heart was breaking watching the three people who had made the past couple of months without Mamoru bearable. Her cerulean blue eyes were fixed on a dark haired starlight in particular, someone who without her realising had stolen her heart. Tears began to fall down her cheeks as they readied themselves she couldn't hold it in anymore.

"I don't want you to leave!" She cried out.

The three starlights looked in awe at the blonde, they had come to love the quirky, clumsy girl the past couple of months. And despite what Taiki and Yaten had done, they couldn't stop Seiya falling in love with the Moon Princess. They knew that Usagi loved Mamoru and that they had a powerful bond that spread through time, but they also felt in their hearts that she was falling for Seiya and vice versa.

"Usako..." Mamoru said placing a hand on her shoulder.

"I'm sorry, but I don't want you to leave! You've helped us, no you've helped me! In more ways than one..." She said trailing off as her eyes lowered themselves to her hand.

Looking at her small delicate white hands Mamoru noticed the ring that he gave her the day he left, the love that the ring symbolised was different then as it is now. Running a hand through his coal black hair he sighed, as much as he loved his Usako he knew what had happened when he wasn't there. He stepped forward and looked at the four who all looked not only tired but also unsure, unsure of what he didn't know but they all looked unsure.

"Please, we ask that you stay one more day. To rest before your long journey back, I would be happy to give you the funds for a hotel." He says pulling out his wallet.

"That wont be needed, I'm sure we can take our princess back to our apartment. We will leave first thing in the morning, if that is ok with you princess?" Taiki asks looking at the crimson haired princess.

Princess Kakyuu noted her head silently, and Usagi noticed there were small tears in her eyes. She would have thought the princess would have declined the offer, but the princess looked like she was devastated by the offer. After Usagi watched the starlights walk off she turned back to Mamoru, he reached his hand to her face to wipe the tears from her porcelain skin. Taking her small hand in his Mamoru lead the girl to the apartment that they had shared so many happy times together, walking in he closed the door behind the blonde then got straight to the point.

"You love him don't you." He asked not looking at Usagi.

"Wh-what?" She stuttered trying to hide her true emotions.

"Usako, don't lie to me. I know that you're feelings for him have developed while I was gone." Turning to face Usagi he held her hand that bore a ring in his. "I know things have been going downhill for us for a while, and I understand that we have the future to think about. But I would hate to stop you from being happy, so please don't lie to me. You owe me that."

Usagi looked into the blue eyes that she'd lost her self in countless times, when she was lost or scared being lost in those eyes made her forget. Made everything seem ok, but now she found they were filled with sympathy and also filled with memories. Tears began to fill her own blue eyes as she whispered the words she never thought she would.

"Yes, I do love him." She whispered sniffing. "I tried to stop the feelings, I tried to make my self stay in love with you. But with Seiya..." She stopped thinking of the fun times the two had had together.

With Mamoru she knew what was going to happen before it even happened, it was so predictable that sometimes she was bored and was glad when her friends asked her to go out to a cafe or even when she was in school with them. She knew that the feelings they shared were able to withstand the test of time, but she also knew that they would be unchanging. When she was with Seiya however it was like playing with fire, so many times they had come close to loosing themselves with each other but either the outer Senshi or the Starlights had stopped them. And not only was the feeling she had with Seiya like nothing she had ever felt before, it felt warm and comforting. Something that she had lost while being with Mamoru. But guilt was another thing that had stopped Usagi from admitting her feelings, Crystal Tokyo relied on the marriage and joining of her and Mamoru. Another thought that was eating her alive was that if they never got married then Chibi-Usa would never be born, and Usagi couldn't bare the thought of never seeing the lively pink haired child again.

"I want you to be happy Usako, and if Seiya makes you happy then I won't hold you back." He slid the ring off her finger and then placed it onto the counter. "Just promise me that you'll always follow your heart."

Looking up at Mamoru, Usagi couldn't believe what she was hearing. Mamoru was telling her she could leave him for another man, her arms snaked their ways around his waist holding him close. His hands began to stroke her hair as tears began to fall from his own eyes, his Usako was happy with some other man. He couldn't help but think that it was all because he had gone to America, thousands of what if's began flying around his head as he held onto the only girl he had ever loved.

"Thank you Mamo-chan." Usagi whispered looking up at him, inching onto the tips of her toes. She kissed his lips for the last time.

The kiss was soft and delicate, like all the others had been. Usagi tried to remember when they had kissed and felt strong passion towards each other, but she failed to remember. After Mamoru released her from his grasp she took a small step back, almost as if she was seeking his final word of permission.

"Go Usako, go and be happy. And always follow your heart." He said trying to keep more tears from falling from his eyes.

Grabbing her jacket from the hook near the door Usagi slipped it over her slim shoulders, kneeling down she then put on her shoes and glanced back at Mamoru.

"Thank you, I'll never forget you Mamo-chan." She said finally and then ran out of the door.

Once the door clocked shut, the tears finally fell from Mamoru's eyes. Walking over to the bookcase he picked up a picture that he had treasured since the day it was taken. It was of him, Usagi and Chibi-Usa at the park, they were so filled with joy and happiness. It was the day Chibi-Usa had told them she was staying to train as a sailor senshi, although Usagi had hated the child when they first met the tears they shed that day were of pure love for the spirited young girl. Heartbreakingly the picture began to disappear from his hands, being changed with a photo of him and Usagi. And no Chibi-Usa. It was at that moment Mamoru realised the severity of what had happened, he'd lost his future wife and child in one small afternoon.

Elsewhere

Usagi was running down the familiar streets to the home of the starlights, the air was beginning to turn cold as night was drawing in causing a slight burn in her lungs. Having reached the apartment block where the four were staying she pressed the intercom while trying to catch her breath.

"Can I help you?" A soft voice asked.

"Seiya, its me. Usagi, can we talk?" She asked panting slightly.

"Ok, I'll be down in a second." He said and then went silent.

Usagi began to pace back and forth trying to think of what she could say, and she was also trying to think of what Seiya would say. She knew the starlight was passionate and also someone who could make her melt with a single word, even when he said her name she would feel heat deep inside her very being.

"Odango." His calm voice called to her breaking her concentration.

Turning around she looked into his deep blue eyes, opening her mouth she tried to speak. But couldn't find the words, she stepped a little closer to him and he stepped a little closer to her. This continued until they were mere inches away from each other, Usagi could feel his breath as he looked down on her. Looking at the blonde Seiya couldn't hold back anymore, he crashed his lips onto Usagi's in a passionate act. Expecting the girl to pull away Seiya began to end the kiss, but Usagi wanted more. She wrapped her arms around his neck as fire raced through her veins filling her body with extreme heat, she craved this and so did Seiya. Breaking the kiss when oxygen was running low they stared into each other's blue eyes, it was almost like they complimented each other.

"You don't know how long I've waited for that Odango." Seiya said while running a hand through her silken hair.

"He said we can be together...if you want that I mean." Usagi said looking down with a soft blush dusting her cheeks.

Seiya's breath got caught in his throat, a lifetime with Usagi. The girl who he had found and called head over heels in love with within the span of a couple of days, before they each knew their identities as senshi it was fun and easy. And every time that Seiya was with Usagi he felt that all the songs they sang, all the concerts were dedicated to her. And now he could spend a lifetime with her, but he had other things to think about for example his princess. What would she say if he asked to stay on earth to be with the woman he loved? Slipping his hand into hers he began to pull her into the apartment block, if they wanted to be together then they would need to act now before the Starlights had to return with their princess.

"Of course its what I want Odango, ever since I realised my feelings for you I wished that you'd love me back." He said while pulling her up the stairs. "And if we want to be together then we need to speak to the others, and once thats done we'll speak with your senshi." Seiya spoke turning to face the woman he loved.

Usagi nodded in understanding, she knew how much Princess Kakyuu meant to the starlights. So with her nerves shot to pieces they entered the apartment, the princess was sitting upright in a chair while speaking with Taiki and Yaten. Every word that fell from her lips was soft and kind, for this was the very essence of Kakyuu. Ever since Usagi had met the princess she knew that she cared for her people and her protectors the Starlights, so asking her to allow one to stay on earth which is lightyears away from Kinmoku was almost unthinkable.

"Fighter." Princess Kakyuu stated then smiled softly at Usagi. "And Serenity, to what do we owe the pleasure?"

"Princess, there is something we would like to ask you." Usagi began feeling her palm become sweaty, but after feeling a reassuring squeeze from Seiya she knew it was safe to ask.

"And what might that be?" The princess questioned while her eyes became slightly moist, almost like she knew what the question would be.

"I want to ask that Seiya stay on earth. With me." She stated gulping.

Taiki and Yaten looked dumbfounded at what the blonde was saying, they had tried to hard to keep the two apart for this very reason. So clearly that had done something wrong, tears began to fill their eyes as they glanced at their princess. Rising to her feet she walked over to Seiya, raising a hand she placed it softly onto his cheek. She kept her self composed while she spoke to ensure that she wouldn't feel more pain than she had to, taking a deep breath Kakyuu began to speak.

"You truly love each other don't you?" She asked as the pair nodded. "Then there is nothing I can do, all I ask is that you Fighter. Protect her as you have protected me, and love her with all your very being. Maker and Healer, if you would say your goodbye's now then it will be much easier for us in the morning. My kingdom was broken by Galaxia and Chaos, and we must begin to re build as soon as we are able."

Everyone in the room was shocked at what the princess was saying, Usagi now understood why she had looked so reluctant to accept the offer to stay for another day. She was scared that this would happen and that she would loose someone who had become one of her most trusted senshi, but it was more than that she was also loosing her friend. Usagi released Seiya from her grasp and threw her self at the princess wrapping her arms around her slim form, words could not express how grateful she was that Kakyuu was allowing Seiya to stay on earth. The two remaining starlights embraced Seiya in a tight hold, almost like they couldn't bare to let him go. Seiya decided that he would spend the final night with the princess and remaining two starlights, so Usagi began to walk home. Her cheeks were still a deep crimson as she walked down the streets of Tokyo, but she couldn't be happier. Her happiness was short lived however because as she turned a corner she came face to face with an angry looking Haruka and a calm looking Michiru.

"Um I guess Setsuna has had a glimpse of the future..." The blonde asked taking a small step back.

"Yes, and she told us that Crystal Tokyo has changed. Its no longer you and Mamoru sitting on the throne, its you and that Starlight." Haruka spat looking at the blonde with pained eyes.

"What?" Usagi asked.

"You and Seiya will rule as the king and queen of Crystal Tokyo." Michiru answered looking at her princess. "Why did you have to change things Usagi? Weren't you happy with Mamoru?" The teal haired girl asked.

"No, I wasn't happy. Not anymore, and Mamo-chan told me to follow my heart. He gave us both the chance to be truly happy." She stated looking at the pair. "I still love Mamo-chan, but its different to the love I feel for Seiya. Please let me be happy."

The two outer senshi looked at each other, they had believed that Usagi had left Mamoru to be with Seiya. But hearing that they had both agreed to make each other happy, it make things a little easier. Haruka would never truly agree with Seiya but in order to make her princess happy, she would do anything. The two agreed to walk Usagi the rest of the way home so that the girl wouldn't have to be alone, for which Usagi was grateful for. Even though she felt like a child with her parents when Haruka and Michiru were around, she still enjoyed their company. After arriving home Usagi went straight to her room, changing into pyjamas she climbed into bed breathing a soft sigh of relief. The day's events had taken their tole on her body and she was mentally and physically drained, looking up at the clear sky her eyes fixed on the moon. What would her mother Queen Serenity say about her actions? Would she be happy that she was following her heart? As the thoughts went round and round in her head, her mind was calmed by a soft glow from the moon. With one final sigh she closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
