Ep 50: The Truth Behind the Forgotten Void
"It is the Guardian of the Forgotten and Forbidden."
"A guardian born from a forbidden love. Forgotten before they could see the light of Helios."
"She is none other than the daughter of Kiiro no Hoshi and his lover!"
Third Person's POV
Void: 64:59 /w Mercury and Maker
Taiki couldn't believe his ears.
There was a Senshi residing within the Forgotten Void who held a great enough power to manipulate a whole Limbo Dimension.
And this senshi...was none other the daughter of Kiiro no Hoshi...? The Kiiro no Hoshi? On of the three original Starlights, a Starknight?
No, that was impossible. I just couldn't be. What Taiki just heard must have been a misinterpretation from his part...it must have been it. He didn't hear right...the Ballona before him...she must be some sort of illusion...she must be lying...
Right?
But the more he tried to the deny it, the more it seemed to amuse Ballona even more. Her eyes were swirling with layers and layers of amusement, of pleasure, seeing how Taiki struggled to comprehend what he just heard. This...pleasure...this amusement, wasn't something an illusion could simply make.
It was real...it was all real.
That pleasure...that amusement, wasn't something that came out of some joke. No. It was something that came out of knowing a truth that you know will hurt your great enemy in such a way that was unrepairable.
Because of this...what he heard before him was no lie...no illusion...and most certainly...was not a misinterpretation...for no one would mishear something of that caliber...no one.
"Hahahahahahahahaha! You should see your face. Ohhh that got you good, did it not?" Ballona gloated, her legs kicking the air. Ami glanced worriedly towards her friend, sensing the atmosphere change. Taiki was looking down, eyes covered by a looming shadow as he gritted her teeth in...anger? No, the right word would be frustration.
"You...You are lying! Kiiro no Hoshi never had a daughter!" Taiki snapped, despite him knowing very well that Ballona was certainly not lying. He just couldn't believe what he just heard. Because...it would mean...that the Starknights...broke the most forbidden rule.
"Welllllllllll...true." Taiki looked at her. Lips agape and eyes filled with confusion. "I mean, I did say they never saw the light of day." 'What?' Ami wondered. "Sooooooo technically he didn't have a daughter...he was though...if it weren't for a certain kingdom." She grinned, a twisted dark grin. "If only they had stayed in their planet...it would have saved them from many disgraces." She said with a fake pitiful sigh.
She pursed her lips together, wiping away a fake tear from under her.
"Fufu, so sad. Such a tragedy really. I mean..." She smirked, her eyes looking like they were glowing a dangerous blood crimson. "He got the news right before he died, so he didn't even have time savor the moment. Not even a minute after, his lover fell to death as well, ending any chances of the girl living." She tilted her head, her smirk widened. "So instead, that unborn soul had the same fate as many of your history that day...an eternal stay in the new Forgotten Void." She clapped her hands once seeing their shocked faces.
"Yes ladies and gentlemen, the Forgotten Void is a Limbo Dimension born from the ruin of that fateful day. This is where everything you want to know of that day resides. This is where they will forever stay forgotten in an eternal void that exists between the living and the dead.
Where the daughter of Kiiro no Hoshi and his lover has grown to call home. Trapped with existing and not existing, that has been the life of that little girl for over millennia, without having any memories to go by. Heck this 'existence' is worse than death itself by this point!" She laughed.
"ISN'T THAT JUST SO UTTERLY TRAGIC?!" Her laugh echoed and rang through their ears as a feeling of...melancholy...settled into their hearts.
Was that truly the life fate had give that girl for the past millennia? You couldn't even call if a life by this point. Trapped here, out of all places, with no memories to go off by...with no one to keep you company? That was another level of cruel. She was just a girl, an innocent girl who didn't deserve such a fate. Heck, no one even knew of her existence in the first place...and that infuriated Taiki to no end...it infuriated Ami in a way she had never felt before.
'It's a curse...' She thought with a clenched fist and gritted teeth.
"Where is she?" Ballona stopped, raising an eyebrow at the dark haired male. "Where is the daughter of Kiiro no Hoshi?!" Taiki demanded.
"Aww, I can't say. Really. That girl has been quite an annoying senshi to find. If she were easy to locate, we would have gotten her to tell us where the last two amulets are buuuuuut, as you can see, we have not had such luck. It's so annoying." She whined, before turning serious again, her hands summoning forth another wave of black fire.
"Enough talk." She said in a low tone. "I will settle this with the next best thing, which if I am being honest, is much more fun and fruitful than the latter!" She shot her fire, Taiki quickly summoning forth a shield to refute it back towards her. She deflected it with one swipe of her hand, the fire going past her and incinerating a great majority of the vines on the wall it hit.
"Oh please, do you honestly think prolonging the inevitable will help you in anyway?" She asked bluntly, eyes narrowed as her head was tilted upwards. "You will die here...both of you." Her voice was in no sense alluring, having a dangerous tone that created apprehension in the hearts of everyone who heard it. It was not a threat to be taken lightly whatsoever. No. It was a fact for Ballona...and if the two individuals weren't careful, it might just become a reality.
'No...
We will get answers. We will find our friends. We will get those amulets. We will get out of here and go back with our friends. We will come out of this victorious. And we will defeat Ballona.
We will not go down without a fight!'
Both Ami and Taiki thought simultaneously.
"SO STAY WHERE YOU ARE AND ACCEPT YOUR FATE, SENSHI OF LIGHG!!!!!!" She yelled with a laugh, shooting her fire once more.
This time, Taiki didn't have the need to place a barrier up.
.
.
.
Because a bright light came in between, rendering them blind with its bright glow. The intensity of such a light basically swallowed the dark flame into it like a whale eating plankton.
'Lucky you...it seems like you gained the first part.' They heard a young female voice echo throughout the area. 'It would seem it protected you. Quite a miracle, one might say.' Ballona could recognize that voice anywhere.
"You! Where are you? You little brat show yourself!" Ballona demanded, still unable to see her surroundings.
Meanwhile, Ami was the first to open her eyes, seeing what was the cause of such bright light. Her eye blinked in confusion when she saw the thing responsible.
Before her, floated a small piece of...well, she wasn't quite sure of what it was. All she knew was that she found it strange that such a small object could create such a glow. However, something inside her seemed to feel...attracted to it.
'I feel...a slight familiarity towards it. The pull I feel...is of the same intensity as the one I feel towards that...person. The person who always reaches out their hand towards me in my dreams. Is this...theirs...?'
It seemed impossible, but then again, many things in her senshi life were.
The dream she was referring to was one she had seen for the past year or so. It was a recurring dream of the same silhouette reaching out their hand towards her.
Some would say that dream held no meaning whatsoever. That it was just some trick played by her vivid imagination.
But she knew better. She was a senshi after all.
If the dream was nothing, then why did it replay again? Why did it become even more recurring when she saw the Starlights again? Why did it become so frequent, to the point she would see it every night?
That dream...sure wasn't nothing.
And right now, right now she knew that dream was correlated with this small piece before her, because the aura it radiated...was the same one she felt towards that figure in her dream.
Because of this, she reached for that piece and took it in her hand, feeling a wave of energy course through her veins and filling her with a power both foreign and familiar.
And so, she found herself swinging her arm, summing a huge wave of water to push back Ballona who was barely getting some of her vision back.
The Dark Sailor only managed to feel the hit before feeling herself being pushed harshly by something she couldn't hold onto. 'What-'
'Only those worthy, will be able to get the amulets. No matter how much you try, Guardian of the Burned, Guardian of the Unfortunate, and Guardian of Heartbreak...you will never be worthy. Not with your way of fixing your problems. You are only becoming that which you want to destroy.'
Ballona growled. 'Who does this kid think she is?!' The water summoned forth ceased to exist, Ami not being able to hold it back much longer. She breathed heavily, Taiki looking at her with concern.
'She did it again... How? She didn't have much energy left to summon another wave.' His eyes trailed towards her hand, seeing that it was holding onto something. Noticing his eyes, Ami showed him what she was holding, his eyes going wide.
"I think...we just found a part of the Amulet of the Moonlight." She said with a small smirk.
"How?"
"My guess is we passed a test to gain it, just how Yaten and Minako did." 'If that is the case, was Ballona an illusion?'
'Oh no she is very much real, so you might want to get further away from her.' The said voice from before suggested.
"Are you-"
'Does it seem like the time for questions? You really must not value your life.' Without any further words to say between them, Ami and Taiki started going forwards and back, trying their best to hold on to their only support as they began swinging. When the momentum was enough, they let go and reached for the next vines in front of them.
They caught themselves onto the vines, feeling gravity trying to pull them down. Ami grunted, finding it hard to hold on to the vine with only one hand. 'Just keep going.' Forwards and back. Let go. Catch. Repeat.
By the fifth time, both saw themselves nowhere close to the end of the hallway.
"This tiring."
"The rope burn is making my hand numb, I'm not sure if I can continue doing this." Ami said.
"We have to, or else Ballona will kill us."
"I'm surprised she hasn't come after-
"DIE!" Spoke too soon! Taiki quickly summoned forth the barrier of the shield, protecting them both from the fire. However, the shield broke like glass, causing another wave of pain go through his body as his grip loosened on the vine. He went down a few inches, making Ami fear for his life as she shouted his name.
"I-I am fine." He struggled out to say.
"You are in pain. I can sense it." Ami shot back. Taiki looked at her. 'Sense.'
Their small distraction with one another made them fail to notice the fact that the fire had burned the vines. They only took note of their current situation when they heard a snap and began falling.
The wind hit their faces as they fell lower and lower, downward into the sky like void. Ballona laughed in the background, seeing them plunge into the dangerously beautiful void.
"Bye bye little light senshi. I will not miss you~" She said with a huge grin plastered over her face. 'Fall into the dark pit you placed us in...
Suffer...
Feel our pain...
Feel the ever lasting pain of never being able to see the light of day even when you are alive...
Feel the ever lasting pain of hearing the cries of the dead and see them die in every way possible...
Feel it...Kou Taiki...Mizuno Ami...
FEEL THE SUFFERING WE HAD TO ENDURE FOR CENTURIES BECAUSE OF YOUR CURSED YIN AND YANG RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
"Ami!" The blue haired female looked at Taiki, who was reaching out his hand towards her in a desparte attempt to save her.
A flash of that recurring dream crossed her mind as see subconsciously reached towards his hand and took it in hers. Her fingers intertwining with his as she stared into his eyes.
'This feeling...it's the same as...' He pulled her closer, their hands still interwind as her head rested on his shoulder. A comforting warmth enveloped her in such a caring way that made her feel safe despite the current situation they had before them.
'Why...? Why do I feel like this towards him? Why do I feel safe when clearly we are falling towards our death. A destiny worse than death even. What even is this feeling?'
Was it...no...
It couldn't be.
Could it?
No...
It just...couldn't be...
Even if it was...it was forbidden...was it not?
She couldn't be...she just couldn't be...
As those worries flooded her mind, Taiki was looking downward, unaware of her current dilema. He was trying to summon forth the same technique he did earlier with the shield and black hole. However, it was proving to be difficult because the energy required to do so was far too much for him to muster up at the moment.
'Summoning forth so many shields drained me, but what took most of my energy were the impacts to them, especially when they shattered. Just having two shields break like glass was enough to drain my energy to the point I could barely stand up.
I have been trying to simulate this whole time but...'
'So you are giving up that easily...shame. Maybe you don't deserve that piece after all.' A girl's voice echoed through his head. His eyes went wide. 'If you don't have the enough determination to convoke the energy to summon forth a sphere shield to save both of you, then you are unworthy to even be called a senshi in the first place.' She added quite coldly.
He won't allow that. He won't allow them to fall into the underworld. He won't allow Ami out of all people to die here! She came to help them, so he cannot allow her to die here when it is their problem to deal with, not hers.
He would never allow her to die, not if he can do anything about it!
"Blessed Protection!" He invoked the spell once more, the sphere surrounding them as they flew upwards and down the hall.
"WHY YOU! COME BACK HERE!" Ballona yelled as she propelled herself with her fire, quickly gaining ground. Ami soon saw this, her lips pursed together as her eyes furrowed. She turned to the brown haired male, whose eyes held a great exhaustion.
"Taiki, use this." She said, showing the piece to him. He glanced her way, looking at the piece she had in hand.
"No. It can help you summon whatever water power you have here to protect yourself when I cannot. It is best for you to keep it for yourself." He refused. She puffed her cheeks.
"I am telling you to use it. You clearly need it more. Don't you dare say you don't because I already told you, did I not? That I could sense your pain. I don't share it, but I can sense it. So please use it to at least regain some energy." She retorted. He blinked at her, actually surprised by her words. 'Is she really that worried?'
A warm feeling settled in his heart. Butterflies filled his body as a feeling he was not familiar with made his heart beat far faster than what it should be.
'Could it be...'
"HELL FIRE!" His thoughts were interrupted by the voice of Ballona summoning her technique. He clicked his tongue as he made the sphere go down. Avoiding the fire, but unfortunately this time it seemed to be persistent to hit it's target. It changed its trajectory and started going towards them again.
"YOU ARENT GETTING OUT OF BEING KILLED BY MY FLAMES OF HELL!" She said as she moved her hands to control the fire.
"Taiki!" He turned to the bluenette, seeing how she was handing him the small piece of the amulet they even came into this dimension in the first place. "Please, trust me but over all...trust in yourself! I know you can protect me if you so choose. I know I can protect myself! So please take it!" And without any more protests from his part, he took the small piece of the amulet in his hand. A wave of energy washed over him as he sped up the sphere with a small jolt. Ami stubble led forwards but didn't fall, him having a firm grip around her waist.
She looked up towards him, her blue orbs asking him a silent question. He looked down at her, his face unreadable but his eyes showing a sign of softness.
"I trust you."
