Chapter Twenty Four

"Marinette!" Even though Marinette could hear Adrien's sneakers slapping against the concrete behind her, she didn't slow down. It wasn't until his hand wrapped around her thin wrist, pulling her back into his chest did she finally stop. His fingers dug into her side as he fiercely spun her around.

Glaring down into her bluebell eyes, Marinette's heart dropped to her stomach as his green eyes met hers, reflecting every emotion he was holding in them. The most dominant ones were relief, sorrow, and rage. He gave her a rough shake. "I have never met anyone so dense, Marinette! Chat's not here!"

"He is here! You wouldn't know!"

"I would know Marinette!" Marinette felt Adrien's grip turn bruising as he pushed her away to arm's length. He continued yelling. "I know because I am him, god dammit! So stop acting ridiculous! We need to get out of here while we still can!"

Marinette's eyes widened, quickly followed by Adrien's as realization dawned on him. While she watched him pale quickly, Marinette felt her mouth go dry. In her foggy mind, only two things remained clear to her. One, Adrien Agreste and Chat Noir were the same person. And two, how could he let it slip that easily?! After all the trouble the duo went through to keep his identity secret, he just lets it slip when he's yelling at her? Of all things?

It made sense, oddly. Whenever Chat Noir was around, Adrien wasn't, and vice versa. Though Chat acted completely different when compared to the model, he still held all of the positive traits that had made them, them.

Marinette felt her cheeks flush as she remembered that her first, second, and third kiss had been with Chat Noir, who was coincidentally also her long time crush Adrien. All those late night cuddles, swimming at the old safe house, his emotional story about Proietille Velenoso, all of that had been Adrien. Her dorky Chat Noir, was her prince charming Adrien.

The feeing of relief surged through her body. He was with her the entire time. He never once abandoned her, he just had to use his other identity to protect her. She could have thrown her arms around his neck and hug him, and she probably would have too had she not seen the group of men storming their way with presumably loaded arms.

Acting on pure instinct, she pushed Adrien to the side along with her, the two breaking through the swing doors into an open and bare room. They barely missed the bullets that had been shot at them, one skimming past Adrien's knee and another scraping Marinette's forearm. Thanks to the extreme adrenaline coursing through her veins, she could barely feel the laceration as she was quickly pulled up by Adrien.

"Come on, we need to get out of here Marinette!" She nodded in affirmation, the two gearing towards the second door only to stop as another group of men barged in through it, the others moving in from the door behind the duo.

Marinette and Adrien were back to back, glaring down the enemies. It took her only a second to recognize the feeling of Adrien's hand slithering down from her elbow to her wrist until he finally intertwined their fingers, holding onto her tightly.

"Hey, brats." Erich casually greeted as the men cleared way to make an opening for their new leader. He scowled as his eyes met Marinette's who smirked as she remembered spitting on his face. With the twitch of two of his thick fingers, a few of his comrades advanced on the duo, one reaching out to grab Marinette's arm. That was when Adrien acted.

His elbow reared back into the obese man who had his hand outstretched's face, causing the bigfer guy to stumble back a few steps. As the others reacted, the blond teen dipped under their swinging arms, his arms encircling Marinette's waist as he pulled her down with him before kicking out his foot, clipping the two males calves and knocking them to the ground before rearing to his full height. Marinette was too stunned to be of any help as she watched in awe as Adrien continued knocking opponent after opponent down.

Gracefully, his evaded the onslaught of men, delivering each of them a hard blow to the head or stomach and momentarily disabling them as he moved onto the next one. That was when Marinette finally had enough sense to join in on the fight, only to be tugged back by Erich. She would have flipped him over her shoulder, but the look in Adrien's eyes were enough to make her stop and look down.

Marinette glanced at what he was looking at and her bluebell eyes widened in horror as she watched blood soak into the thin shirt she was wearing, darkening the light fabric. Protruding from her right side was the tip of a blood stained knife. Slowly, her mind figured out what happened and whose blood it was stuck onto the blade.

She couldn't feel it with all of the adrenaline pulsing in her body, but by the looks of it, it was not good. The gang members took this distraction to their advantage as they extracted their revenge on Adrien. One managed to strike his knee into the blond's abdomen, shocking him back from his horror, causing him to deflect the next hit, parrying it with his own knee as a new kind of rage filled him, boiling over with hatred. Adrien let out a breathtaking roar as his head smashed against his attacker's, a fist coming back to bash against one of the men grabbing his shoulder's.

He was quickly overpowered as five other members snatched his arms and forced him down on the ground, one of their knees burrowing into the side of his face as they pinned his arms behind him. He got a full view of the terror as Erich quickly withdrew the dagger buried in Marinette. A foul curse slipped through Marinette's parted pink lips as she watched the scene unfold. Without the knife to hold her up, she quickly crumpled to the ground as the only thing keeping her from feeling the intense pain began to subside.

"Marinette!" His anguished cry filled her ears as her pale hand came to her wound to stop the bleeding. She didn't want to see how bad it was, if she saw that she knew it would worsen the pain.

Just as she was ready to close her eyes, so she wouldnt give Erich the satisfaction of seeing her cry, the men holding Adrien down shouted in confusion and fear as the immediately leapt off of him, each trying to get further and further away from the teen.

A bright green glow blinded everyone in the room and when their vision returned, Chat Noir was standing in the middle of the room, his green eyes narrowed and he was positioned into an attack stance. Claws were stretched, held by his side's and his legs were parted, ready to jump on whoever decided to assault him first. Growls emitted from his chest, rumbling loudly in the dead quiet room.

"Get away from her."

His words were a trigger to the metaphorical gun as all of the men got over their shock, each one tumbling after the other to get to him, determined to protect their new boss. He made short work of them, slicing their chests with his sharp claws, crosscutting them and stabbing them as he forced his way to the heap that was Marinette and Erich who was pulling Marinette up by the roots of her hair. She shrieked in pain as he began to drag her out the door. The familiar call of "Cataclysm!" Was heard before Chat howled in pain as he dropped to the ground, his hand that held the power of destruction clutches onto one of the guns he'd grabbed.

A sound of a shot rang throughout the room, as Chat collided his boot against the bastard that had managed to shoot him in the shoulder. From the close range shot, the lead bullet pushed through his protective leather armor and dug its way into his muscle tissue. Chat cried out in anger as he slashed his way through but they just kept on coming. Marinette and Erich were out of the room, watching the slaughter. It seemed hopeless, not even Chat Noir could take on four dozen men. And that was when it happened. He did what Marinette had nightmares about. He did the one thing she never wanted him to do, ever.

He called out for a second Cataclysm.

Her heart dropped to her stomach as her blood ran cold. She ignored the throbbing pain in her side as she watched black bubbles encase Chat Noir, green electric bolts shooting out from him. Screams tore from his throat, and the air went thin, as if the magic was absorbing all of the energy in the room. His shouts of agony grew louder with each passing second and then suddenly, it all stopped. It was the silence before the storm. It was almost peaceful for a second. And within the next, a powerful black surge knocked everyone back. A burning sensation covered every inch of her skin, nearly cancelling out the pain coming from her stab wound.

And then it all went black.

~~~~~
Pain. White hot pain. That was the first thing Marinette felt. It laced from her toes to her head, and her abdomen, god that was the worst spot. Her eyes opened stickily. Her entire body hurt. The first thing she saw was a blinding white. Blurry visioned, she blink a few times until her eyes adjusted. It was a ceiling. She yelped as she pushed herself upright, a stinging sensation covering her abdomen.
She didn't remember what happened. It wasn't until she saw the blood crusted wound on her side did she finally understand. Chat Noir had used his Cataclysm twice in a row. Her eyes widened in realization. Chat Noir.
Next to her laid an unconscious Erich, blood seeping through the wound on his head. Peering into the room where Chat had used his Cataclysm, she was greeted by piles of ash and dust. And in the middle of it all, laid an unconscious Adrien.
"Adrien," she croaked, crawling her way through the ashes of their enemies until she got to his side, cradling his blond head on her bare lap. Bare. Why were her legs bare? She was pretty sure she had sweatpants on earlier. A groan pulled her away from her thoughts as she glanced down at Adrien. His green eyes blinked fuzzily up at her.
"Adrien!"
"Marinette... It worked, huh? I'm not dead, so that's a bonus," his summer grass colored eyes did a once over of her body before closing. "But if I am dead, this heaven is pretty awesome if I get to have a naked Marinette."
Her eyes clouded over in confusion before she noticed that she was indeed naked. She shrieked, pulling his head up to  flip him around so the back of his head was pressed against her chest and covered her breast. "Don't look!" She squealed as red flooded her cheeks.
"I physically can't," Adrien joked, keeping his eyes closed. "Sorry, it was probably the second Cataclysm that destroyed your clothes, but that's better than you getting hurt." He tugged at the bottom of his black T-shirt tugging it up and revealing his tanned abs.
"What are you doing?! You don't need to be shirtless too!" She squealed out as he pulled the fabric over his head. And then he tossed it at her face.
"As much fun as that would be princess, I'd rather not have any other person who isn't me see all your goods." He teased, waiting patiently for her to put his shirt on. "Though I do have to say, they look as good as the croissants you made."
That comment earned him a slap upside his head.
After the shirt was on, he turned over to her. "Now what do we do?" She asked, her hands in her lap. The black tee went halfway down her thighs, covering most of her.
"Now, we go to the police, and then we go back to school and live out the rest of our lives."
"But what about everything that just happened?" Adrien gingerly took her hands into his own.
"It looks like they kidnapped us, and in a way they did. So they have nothing on you or me." He placed a soft kiss on her forehead. Exhausted, Marinette leaned against his chest, feeling all of the pain and restlessness of the past couple of weeks wash away as she fell asleep. Just before she was completely gone, she heard him murmur something in her ear.
"We'll live on for Granny. And we'll love each other till the end, always." She smiled before she let her sleepiness overtake her.
The end! Or is it? I will have an Epilogue posted sometime next week so keep an eye out for that! Also, please tell me what you thought of the fight scene for this chapter! I'm trying a different style.
Until next time, peace!
