CHAPTER SIX
Percy had never been on a motorcycle before, and she couldn't help but be a little nervous. She stood on the sidewalk outside her apartment, watching as Luke pulled up in front of her. He dismounted his bike with an easy grace, his denim jacket catching the fading sunlight. Percy felt a flutter of excitement mixed with apprehension as he approached her.
"Hi." She breathed, her heart skipping a beat.
"Hey," He grins, his eyes sparkling. "Are you ready for this?"
Percy takes a deep breath, trying to quell her nerves. "Ready as I'll ever be. Where are we going?"
Luke's smile widened, the dimples on his cheeks becoming more prominent. "It's a surprise."
With that, he turns to grab a spare helmet, gesturing for her to walk over. "Here, put this on. Safety first." He bit back a laugh as he watched her struggle with the clasp. Percy fumbled with the helmet, her fingers feeling clumsy as she tried to secure it under her chin. Luke stepped closer, his presence warm and reassuring.
"Need some help?" He asked, a teasing glint in his eyes.
"Yes, please!" Percy huffed, annoyed and frustrated this was so hard, but grateful for the assistance. Luke gently adjusted the helmet for her, his fingers brushing against her hair. The simple touch sent a shiver down her spine, making her heart race even more.
"All set" He said, pulling back with a satisfied nod. "You look great. Now, hop on!" She climbed onto the bike, her heart pounding as she settled behind him. The leather seat felt cool beneath her, and she could feel the engine's vibrations humming through her body. Luke started the bike, the rumble beneath them sending a thrill of adrenaline coursing through her veins.
"Hold on tight!" He called over the roar of the engine. Percy wrapped her arms around his waist, feeling a rush of excitement and nervousness as they took off. The wind whipped past her, and she couldn't help but laugh, the exhilaration of the ride washing over her.
They sped through the quiet streets, the city lights twinkling in the distance. Luke took winding turns with ease, and Percy found herself leaning into the curves, feeling more alive than she ever had. It was a strange blend of freedom and intimacy, and she loved every moment of it. After a while, Luke guided the bike onto a scenic route that opened up to a breathtaking view of the coastline. He slowed down and pulled over at a lookout point, where they could see the ocean waves crashing against the rocks below.

"Wow." Percy breathed, taking in the stunning scenery. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the water, and she felt a sense of awe wash over her.
"I thought you might like this spot," Luke said, removing his helmet and running a hand through his hair. "It's one of my favorites."
Percy dismounts the bike and walks to the edge of the overlook, the salty breeze ruffling her hair. "This is incredible! Thank you for bringing me here." She said, her heart swelling with gratitude.
"Anytime," Luke replies, standing beside her. He looks at her, his expression sincere. "I'm really glad you decided to call me."
Percy turns to him, feeling a warmth spread through her. "I'm glad I did too. This is the most fun I've had in ages."
They stood in comfortable silence, the sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks filling the air. Percy felt a connection to Luke that went beyond their earlier conversations, and the moment felt charged with possibility. She was glad she had taken a chance and called him. She glanced over at him, noticing how the fading sunlight accentuated the contours of his face, casting a warm glow that made him look even more handsome. Percy's heart fluttered at the thought.
Percy stood there, feeling a mix of contentment and anticipation, as the sun continued to dip lower in the sky, painting the world around her in soft hues of gold and pink. The air was cool, the sea breeze refreshing, and for the first time in a long while, she felt truly at ease. Her heart still raced from the ride, the thrill of the motorcycle ride still buzzing in her veins. But it was more than just the adrenaline—it was the connection she felt with Luke, something deeper, something that had only just begun to unfold.
Luke, noticing her quiet admiration of the view, grins. "You're still taking it all in, huh?"
Percy smiles, her eyes lingering on the horizon before turning back to him. "Yeah, it's...Perfect. You really know how to make an evening unforgettable."
His smile softens, and there was a flicker of something in his eyes—something warm, sincere. "I'm glad you feel that way. I wanted tonight to be special. I think it's the beginning of something...Well, good."
Percy's breath caught slightly, the words hanging in the air between them, full of promise and uncertainty. She felt the same way, but there was still that voice in the back of her mind reminding her of how much she had to lose if things didn't work out. Taking a step closer to him, she glances down, then up again, meeting his gaze. "Do you ever feel like, I don't know...Like you're on the edge of something, but you're not sure if it's worth jumping into?"
Luke's expression softens further, his gaze locking with hers. "All the time," He admits, his voice low. "But sometimes, you have to take the leap. Sometimes the risk is what makes it all worth it."
Percy felt a flutter in her chest, a mix of excitement and something more—hope. For the first time in a long while, she didn't feel like her hesitation was holding her back. Instead, it felt like the right moment to embrace whatever came next, to take that leap alongside someone who seemed to understand. "Yeah," She agrees, her voice steady despite the nervous excitement building inside. "I think I'm ready to take the leap."
"Yeah?" Luke asks, a hopeful gleam in his eyes as he steps closer, the gap between them closing. "Me too."
Percy hesitated at first. Her feelings for her best friend Pete popped up in her mind, but she shook her head, trying to get those lingering thoughts out of her mind. Her and Pete would never happen. Why would they? They're just best friends. Besides, here she was standing in front of Luke, feeling something new, something real stir within her. The pull between them was undeniable, and the spark in his eyes made it all the more intense.
The past, with all its uncertainties, seemed so far away now. Luke was here, offering something passionate, something she couldn't ignore. Percy felt a rush of excitement as Luke's words hung in the air between them. The sincerity in his tone, the warmth in his eyes - it all made her heart race faster. She knew she was on the edge of something big, something that could change everything. Percy's heart pounded in her chest as she stepped closer to Luke, the distance between them narrowing until they were mere inches apart. His eyes, dark and intense, locked onto hers, making her breath hitch.
"I want to take that leap with you." She whispered, her voice trembling slightly with a mix of nerves and desire.
Luke's gaze never wavered from hers, his expression a mask of need and longing. He reaches out, his hand finding the curve of her hip through the thin fabric of her shirt. The touch sent shivers racing down Percy's spine. "Then let's do it," He murmurs, his voice low and husky. "Let's jump into whatever this is between us." With that, he pulled her flush against him, their bodies aligning in a perfect fit. Percy could feel every hard plane of his muscles against her softer curves as Luke claimed her lips in a searing kiss.
Percy found herself completely lost in the moment. The world around them faded away, leaving only the two of them in the intimate bubble they had created. Her heart raced as she felt the heat of his body against hers, the pressure of his hand on her hip, grounding her to the reality of this intense connection.
Luke's other hand slid into her hair, his fingers threading through the strands as he tilted her head to deepen the kiss. Percy responded instinctively, her arms winding around his neck, pulling him closer as if there was no distance that could separate them. She could feel the rhythm of his breath matching her own, their pulse quickening in sync. When they finally broke the kiss, both were breathless, their foreheads resting against each other. Percy's chest rose and fell rapidly as she tried to collect her thoughts, but the haze of desire clouded her mind. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to feel so vulnerable, but it didn't matter. Right now, all that mattered was the undeniable pull between them.
"So, does this mean I can call you my girlfriend?" Luke questioned, his tone light and teasing.
Percy laughs softly, the sound breathless and shaky. "Is that your way of asking me out?" She felt giddy, her heart fluttering at the playful grin spreading across Luke's face. His hand remained on her hip, his thumb lazily tracing small circles that sent shivers through her.
"Well, I figure we've already made the leap, might as well go all in." He continues, his grin turning softer, more genuine. "I want to be with you, Percy. Not just in fleeting moments like this, but in everything. So, what do you say? Will you go all in with me?"
Percy felt her cheeks warm as a smile tugged at her lips. The sincerity in Luke's voice melted any lingering doubts she had. She nodded, her fingers brushing against the back of his neck. "Yeah, Luke. I'm all in."
His smile widened, relief and joy shining in his eyes. Without hesitation, he pulled her into another kiss, this one filled with a new kind of promise—a commitment to whatever lay ahead. It wasn't just about the passion anymore; it was about building something real, something that felt like it could last. When they finally pulled away, Percy rested her head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. For the first time in what felt like forever, she felt a sense of clarity. The past, with its complications and uncertainties, was no longer a shadow over her. She was ready to move forward—with Luke by her side.
"Now that we've established this," Luke teases, his hand gently running up and down her back, "What do you say we make this official? Dinner? A movie? Something more exciting, maybe?"
Percy laughs, the sound light and genuine as she blushes. "How about we start with dinner, and we'll see where the night takes us?"
"Deal," Luke said, his grin turning playful again. "But just so you know, I'm planning to impress you."
"You already have." Percy replied, her voice soft but sure.
The way he looked at her in that moment, like she was the only thing that mattered, made her heart soar. For once, she wasn't looking back. She wasn't hesitating. Those feelings she felt for her best friend were shoved to the back of her mind, replaced by the overwhelming desire to explore this new relationship with Luke. She felt a sense of peace settle over her, the kind of peace she hadn't realized she was missing until now. Standing there in Luke's arms, everything seemed to fall into place. The future no longer felt uncertain or daunting. It felt full of possibilities—possibilities she was excited to explore with him by her side.
Luke gave her a soft smile, his fingers brushing her cheek, wiping away a stray lock of hair. "You're amazing, you know that?" He said quietly, his voice full of admiration.
"I know." She replies with a giggle, earning a chuckle from him. "But, you're amazing too." She added softly, reaching up to brush her fingertips along his jawline, feeling the hint of stubble. He smiled, leaning into her touch. He turned his head, pressing a soft kiss against her palm. The simple gesture made her heart skip a beat, the butterflies fluttering in her stomach.
"So, what's the plan?" Percy asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity and anticipation.
"Well," Luke begins, his arm winding around her waist. "We've got plenty of time, so I figured we'd have a little fun first." She raises her eyebrows at him, tilting her head questioningly. He grins at her, stepping back as he intertwines his hand with heres. "There's somewhere I wanna show you."
"Another mysterious place?" Percy asks in surprise, perking up as she smiles at him. "If it's anything like this with that amazing view, then count me in!"
Luke smiled fondly at her, squeezing her hand and guiding her back to his bike. He was about to help her out with the helmet too, but he watched with fondness and admiration as she excitedly managed to get it herself. He helped her on the bike after he got on, his heart skipping a beat at feeling her arms around his waist and her body pressed up against him. He was so excited for her to see where he was taking her.
"You ready?" He asked over his shoulder, smiling at her.
"Absolutely." She returns the smile, leaning over to kiss his cheek.
That sudden action surprised him and she swore she saw faint blush tinting his cheeks, which made her smile widen. "What are you waiting for then, loverboy?" Percy teased him. She knew she was blushing too, her face felt hot and her heart was racing, but the playful energy between them made her feel alive. Luke chuckled at her teasing, clearly delighted by her boldness. He revved the engine of the bike, and the sound echoed in the quiet night air, as though the world was waiting with them.
He pulled out of the parking spot, taking it slow at first as they navigated through the winding streets. Percy's arms wrapped around his waist again, and she couldn't help but smile, feeling the warmth of his body against hers. The ride was exhilarating, and despite the cool night air, she felt nothing but warmth in her chest. The connection between them was undeniable, and it only grew stronger as the ride continued.
Luke was nervous about taking her to this next spot. It was very important to him and he only hoped she would appreciate it too. She would be the first person he had shown this place to since...He shook his head, pushing those thoughts away. Now was not the time to get caught up in the past. He focused on the road, the feeling of her arms around his waist, the warmth of her body pressed against his back. This was what mattered, and he would make the most of every moment.
