Chapter Four
Christopher Reigner.
That was what his dog tags read. It seemed like it had been ages since someone had called him anything other than Agent. He always enjoyed mindlessly playing with those tags when he didn't have the strength to sleep.
Usually, his sleepless nights were caused by paperwork or bad dreams, maybe even bad dreams about paperwork. Words couldn't describe how much that man hated paperwork, but tonight he was kept awake by something else, well more like someone.
Jamie goddamn Leigh Evans.
His jaw clenched, he was a professional, he couldn't and didn't let jobs impact him. And that was what Jamie was, a job, nothing more. He was required to keep her safe, just like everyone else.
But no, she wasn't like anyone else, she made an impression on him and he hated it.
The hotel room was silent, except for the ticking of the clock. He looked up at it, it was two in the morning and he couldn't stop thinking about her.
Is she brave or just insane? He couldn't help but wonder what would possess an average person to want to put their life at risk like that.
He smiled for a moment. He almost forgot what it was like to use those facial muscles.
The sound of his ringtone disrupted the silent room. He groaned loudly as he rose from his seat to answer his phone. Please don't be Spencer. He hoped his commanding officer wouldn't be on the other end of that phone call. After six months of chasing the Brennans around London without so much as a nap, he didn't have it in him for another assignment now.
"Hello?" he answered.
"Hey, it's Jamie. I'm the girl from the hospital, of course you know that. I-I didn't expect you to answer. I was hoping to go to voice mail. Anyway I was just thinking about you. I mean your proposition and maybe we could discuss that later at Shirley's Café. I mean they have really good muffins."
"Muffins sound good. How about ten tomorrow? I mean I'll see you there at ten, not ten muffins. Unless you want ten muffins which is fine too"
Jamie laughed. "Yeah 10 is perfect. Liam and I will see you there."
"One more thing before you go. Get some rest. You're gonna need it."
"Well, in that case, you should get some sleep too, Agent Reigner."
"Goodnight Ma'am"
He cut the call, he stared at the black screen before he sighed. "Ten muffins?? You're an idiot Chris. She knew what you were talking about but no you just can't shut your fucking mouth, can you?" Chris scolded himself out loud.
He stared at the door of his bedroom, he looked at his bed, longing to remember how it felt to be underneath its sheets. Maybe he should take her advice and gets some rest as well. He couldn't look like a zombie tomorrow on their date, meeting... he meant meeting.

It was 10:02 a.m. and, Jamie and Liam were seated next to the large window of the café. It was raining because, well it was London. Jamie drew random shapes on the fogged up windows.
"You're a child you know that," Liam teased.
"That's rich, especially coming from you." Jamie snorted at her notoriously immature brother.
"You remember when we were kids and we used to pick a rain drop and race them against each other and see who would win? I would so kick your ass in that, " Jamie reminisced.
"Kick my ass? I think you hit your head a bit too hard there because we both know I'm the raindrop race champion," Liam declared.
"Is that a challenge?" Jamie questioned giving Liam her best it's on now face.
Within seconds the two of them were at the edge of their seat cheering their raindrops to victory when they were interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Sorry I'm late" Agent Reigner arrived, taking off his soaked coat.
"Yeah, five minutes late you should be ashamed of yourself," Jamie joked. She noticed him smile for a second, but just as fast as that smile appeared it had disappeared.
He wasn't much of a smiler was he?
Chris sat in the seat in front of Jamie and Liam. He began to speak. "So have you decided on what you are going to do?" Chris asked bluntly.
Jamie and Liam looked at each other for a brief moment before Jamie began to speak. "Well you see, I would gladly do it, but my brother here needs some convincing."
"What I mean is, let say Jamie testifies, then what? She just has to continue with her life and always have to look over her shoulder forever. What about before the trial? Wouldn't being a witness make her a target? You even said it yourself, only 3 of the brothers are in custody," Liam explained.
"When a witness is an as high profile as Jamie they are put into a witness protection program. A new identity, new home, a new life. You both would be part of the program and have a marshal assigned to you to keep you both safe at all times." Chris explained.
"So that means we would have to move?" Jamie questioned slightly terrified at the thought of such a drastic change.
"Yes. I understand that this is an incredibly scary notion, but we assure you that we do everything to make the witnesses life comfortable and safe."
