Chapter 10

Because I thought this pic looked good I've put it on the side bar. Enjoy this update and comment!

“I just wish I’d left earlier,” Sabrielle repeated for the thousandth time. Kili shook his head as he handed her another cup of tea.

“The more you say it,” he stated solemnly, “The more I wish that I’d never met you. Please stop blaming yourself, Sabrielle. You came as soon as you heard which is a lot more than most even thought to do. Everyone else huddled in their houses or fled. If you had of come earlier it is no doubt things would have turned out differently but this is okay. You can’t change the past and you don’t need to. Maybe it was for the best that Uncle Thorin died.” The young dwarf sat down next to his friend cradling his own warm mug in his hands.

“Oh Kili!” Sabrielle moaned all of a sudden, “I’m being a terrible host and an even worse friend. I should be comforting you not the other way round. I should be making tea and soothing you with gentle words. I’m sorry. I hate hurting you and your brother.” Kili reached out and placed his calloused hands over the top the elf’s slender fingers.

“You haven’t hurt us,” he whispered looking her in the eye, “You told us what we wanted to know. It is because of you that when Fili and I return to Erebor we will be able to face what lies there and not be struck down by the grief. We can look strong and in control before our kin.” The dwarf pushed back his chair and stood up. “I’ll go to Fili now,” he sighed, “He’s had enough alone time. Any longer and he’ll be going mad.” Sabrielle watched him until he disappeared and then returned her gaze to the inside of her cup.

‘Come on, Sabrielle,’ she thought, ‘Be brave for them. You are meant to be some cold elf and here you are almost in tears for a dwarf. What would your father say?’

“Fee?” questioned Kili stepping out into the warm daylight, “Where are you, brother?” He walked a lap of the house searching and found the other dwarf sitting under one the numerous fruit trees that lined Sabrielle’s backyard. He plonked himself down next to his brother and sighed.

“It smells nice out here doesn’t it?” he mused sucking in a deep breath, “I feel as if I’m the only person in the whole of middle-earth when I’m out here. Don’t you feel like that, Fee? Completely at peace.” He lazily flopped his head to the side to look at his brother. He had his knees drawn right up to his chest and his face was down, hidden from view.

“Leave me be, Kili,” he growled not looking up, “I don’t want to talk to you now. I don’t want to talk to anyone. Leave me be.” The younger brother huffed in disbelief.

“I did leave you, Fee,” he informed drawling as if he was stating the obvious, “And now I’m back. So get up and stop moping. I didn’t leave Sabrielle’s sulking to then repeat the experience with you.” When his brother ignored him he elbowed him impishly in the ribs. “Wuss,” he stirred changing tactics though he knew his brother was stronger and fitter than he.

“What did you call me?” came a playful rumble from next to him. Kili jumped to his feet, swaying a little as black spots danced in front of his eyes. Ignoring them he repeated the jibe.

“I called you a wuss,” the dark-haired dwarf laughed, “What are you going to do about it?” Two blue eyes stared up at him sparkling with the challenge.

“Who’s calling who a wuss, Mr Now-standing-out-of-reach?” the blonde dwarf quipped rising from the ground, “You’re lucky because you have the smallest bit of an advantage. But not for long!” Within the blink of an eye Fili was on his feet but Kili was long gone sprinting across the grass. With a laugh of mockery the older dwarf set off after his brother.

“You don’t stand a chance, Kee!” he shouted as he began to gain on his quarry, “And you’re supposed to be faster of us, Nadadith.” They had been running for five minutes or so when Kili turned to see how far behind his pursuer was. He was hot, sweaty and a little breathless from all the activity. Not watching where he was going, the dwarf tripped on a bit of rough ground and his brother was on him in seconds.

“Not so fast now, hey Kee?” Fili panted pinning the fallen dwarf to the ground, grinning from ear to ear. After a moment he relinquished his hold and his brother scrambled to a sitting position frantic to get away from what he knew would follow.

“Now for some real fun!” the blonde declared attacking the other dwarf with tickles. Kili squirmed and couldn’t help laughing uncontrollably as he tried desperately to free himself. But his captor was not going to let his prey escape. With every second it became more and more evident that the blonde dwarf was not going to let him go until he was begging for mercy. Fili pressed his advantage and continued his torture with his brother giggling breathlessly beneath him. Suddenly Kili stiffened.

“Stop,” he gasped not able to catch his breath due the tickle torture, “Fee, stop . . . please. I need . . . Fili!” At the mention of his proper name, the older dwarf stopped and looked at his brother. He had gone deathly pale again like in his fever and was shaking and short of breath.

“Kili?” his brother questioned, suddenly becoming serious, “Kili, what’s wrong? Tell me brother. Are you faint?” The other dwarf shook his head wordlessly trying to recover the oxygen to speak.

“No, I’m not going to pass out,” Kili took a few deep breaths to settle his heartbeat, “I just felt unwell is all. I’m better now. Just a little . . .” He jerked to the side and vomited.

“All better now?” Fili asked rubbing his baby brothers back. When his brother nodded, he smiled. “Let’s get you inside to Sabrielle,” he continued, “She’ll give you a look over then I think you should rest for the afternoon.”

---------------

Poor, poor Kili. Anyone feel sorry for him? He's getting it pretty rough and dwarves don't generally get sick (not including dragon sickness) and it just never stops for him. It must be knocking him around quite a bit. I quite enjoyed writing that! Brotherly Moments! Don't forget to comment! I'm going to, from now on, put pics on. They might not be related to the story though. :D Until we meet again.
