The Chaos
I looked at him, his face serious. I frowned slightly, unconsciously mirroring his expression.
Mirroring expressions, cute.
I thought you didn't like interruptions.
It's different when I'm making fun of you. So much more fun.
Now that's just rude.
Whatever. Just go back to talking.
In no time at all, Chaos had arrived, it's captain equally tiny, and perched at the tip of the ship.
"You may call me Captain Mantis!" The boy shouted, jumping onto the deck of the ship they were on.
"You're here for her?" Captain Spider asked, pointing at me.
"Of course, who'd you think I was taking, the descendant of Morgan Le-Fay?"
Raven blinked. "What?"
I wrinkled my nose. "Morgan Le-Fay is a myth. She didn't have any children, let alone any that are alive today."
"Not a direct descendant, of course, bloodline long since diluted with human DNA, but still," Captain Mantis continued, pacing around.
"Who are you talking about?" Exodus asked cautiously.
"The black haired beauty there," he replied.
"Uh, no, no flirting with Raven," I said, ready to bop him on the head, super strength or no.
It really wouldn't be a good idea to bop him on the head, as you so eloquently put it. There is a very good chance you would cave his skull in.
"Seriously? Cave his skull in? Yeah, nope, not bopping him on the head." I muttered.
You don't actually have to talk out loud, you can do it in your mind. It's less odd to those around you. And good for stealth.
"Um, Sabanthia, you good?" Exodus muttered under his breath to me. "You keep talking to yourself."
"I'm fine, geez," I replied quietly.
"You two done with your private chat?" Captain Spider asked, hands on his hips. "Cause you need to go, host of Chihre."
"What is he talking about Sabanthia?" Raven asked, glancing at me worriedly.
"I keep hearing a voice in my head, it said its name was Chihre, is it a sort of parasite?"
I am a she, not an it.
'Well excuse me for not knowing what gender you were, or even if you had a gender.' I thought, trying out the fact that I didn't have to speak out loud. Apparently, Chihre heard me.
That's your excuse? Really? Also, I can hear you fine.
So, you guys fit a conversation into a short span of time, huh? And no one bothered to notice you?
I am trying to tell you what happened. Are you going to keep interrupting me?
Probably.
You're impossible.
I'm going to pretend that's a compliment, so, thank you.
Right. May I continue please?
Yep, continue please.
Anyway, Next thing I knew, I was being dragged aboard the Chaos and being tied to a chair.
"Sorry we have to do this, but it needs to be done," Captain Mantis said. Fog rolled over the deck, obscuring most of his face in shadow.
"What do you mean, it has to be done?" I asked, beginning to struggle against the ropes tying me to the chair. "What has to happen?"
Don't fight it, you'll live.
"I'll live?!" I squawked, "what?!"
Relax and cool your jets, you won't be hurt. At least, not too much.
Wow, Chihre's good at saying calming things.
Sarcasm isn't nice Hydroxa. And no. She's terrible at it. I would know, she tries giving advice at least once a week.
At least?
Usually more. May I continue? Or do you have some other comment.
Nope, you're good.
"'I'll live', is not a relaxing type of thing to say, Chihre!" I scolded.
Sorry?
"You don't sound too sorry." I grumped. I was cut off from saying anything more, buy Captain Mantis covering my mouth with his hand.
"Quiet, do you want to be fed to the sea serpent?"
"Do you want me screaming?" I asked, but my speaking was muffled by his hand. I was more surprised his hand fit over my mouth, his hand was tiny.
I was about ready to bite (or lick, I hadn't decided yet) his hand when he removed it. He drew a blade, a small knife or something, and placed it on my face, above and to the right of my right eye.
He flicked the knife downward, slicing through my skin, and leaving a cut that might even scar. Blood poured down my face, some dripping onto my shirt, some even making its way into my mouth.
"No screaming," he noted. "Impressive, most of your kind scream at this point."
"My kind? What might you mean by that?" I managed, trying to ignore the warm blood on my face and shirt.
"The hosts, hosts of that species."
Scuse me, we are a very noble race. Compared to some of the others.
"I don't think Chihre likes you," I noted.
"What would that creature know?" He snarled. "It's a parasite, it eats life force. Ever wonder why no female in your family lives past 70?"
"They always die in painful ways, it can possibly be because something was eating life force, or whatever." I retorted.
"Think again," He snarled.
"Chihre?" I asked desperately.
Fate does not like power among your family. It is very dangerous if not needed. Unfortunately, because you're here, your family will be needed again. Your famous 'sign of death' merely means the parasite has fed enough to provide it's host with powers. Fate always intervenes if it means one of your family might survive that. Except when the world needs you.
That's quite the bomb to leave with, it'd be a shame if someone turned the recording off for a bit...
Don't you dare-
