third
The third was his friend's birthday.
A few days later, Felix was startled to see Chan at the surprise party he planned.
His alarm woken him up obnoxiously early so he could have time to start baking. At the beginning of the year, he had convinced the kitchen staff to let him use the oven as long as they weren't working. It was only after he had baked multiple trays of brownies and cookies that he realized the fatal flaw in his plan. Shit, how am I supposed to get all this back to the dorm?
Against his better judgment, Felix decided to call Hyunjin, who after some persuasion, arrived in a sweatshirt that definitely wasn't his. They quietly snuck back into his room, laying everything out on the table.
"Why can't we turn on the lights?" Hyunjin whispered as he nearly tripped over another stack of textbooks.
"Mmmmm, it smells good." Jisung had awoken, rubbing his eyes.
"Because of that." Luckily, it seemed like he hadn't noticed Hyunjin, who Felix quickly shoved into the hallway, partially shutting the door. "Go make sure everyone gets here on time," he whispered. Hyunjin rolled his eyes and mimicked Felix before leaving.
"Whatcha doing?"
"Just getting stuff around," Felix paused, trying to think of a way to keep the boy out of the dorm room. "Will you go buy some milk? I used the rest of it earlier."
"But it's my birthday!" Jisung was whining, melting on the floor.
"Do you want milk with your brownies or not?"
"Fineee."
Within a few minutes, there was knocking on the door. In small groups, everyone had begun showing up. Felix mumbled a thank you to Hyunjin for earlier when he made his appearance before doing a quick headcount. Jeongin- Sungie's friend from high school, Binnie from the band, Seungmin and Hyunjin, and Minho the boyfriend are all here.
"I thought you said there was one more person? Where is he?" Hyunjin's question confused the blonde because he was fairly certain he remembered there being only five on the list.
"Here?" That voice. Sure enough, Felix turned to find the one and only Chan, awkwardly hovering by the door. Suddenly, they could hear familiar humming coming from down the hall.
"Just go hide somewhere, quickly!" He began pushing people towards different areas, ignoring how willing Hyunjin and Seungmin were to climb into the closet together. There wasn't a space for Jeongin, so he merely sat at Felix's desk. Moments after everyone was tucked away, Jisung opened the door.
"Why was it so hard to find milk? I don't understand. Plus I left my phone here." He looked at Felix hopefully, "Did anyone call?"
"Uh, not that I'm aware of." Jisung frowned before spotting something behind Felix.
"Oh, Jeongin's here!"
"Hey, Sungie!"
Pulling out a chair for Jisung, Felix stabbed a candle into the top brownie on the plate. He set it in front of his friend.
"We'll just do this quickly and hope the fire alarm doesn't go off." Catching Jeongin's eye, he lit the candle and began the song.
"Happy~," one by one everyone began filtering out of their hiding places and joining in. Changbin rolled out from under Jisung's bed as Hyunjin and Seungmin threw the closet doors open. "Birthday to you~"
Minho popped out of who knows where and Chan snuck out of the bathroom before the song was over.
"I knew it!" Felix turned to Jisung in shock to find tears in his eyes as he laughed.
"Whatever, squirrel," Changbin retorted.
"I'm serious! There's no way Felix owns that many shoes!" As Jisung gestured to the door, Felix realized they hadn't considered hiding the shoes and left them by the front.
The group shared laughs as they dug into the food.
"These brownies are really good. They're like, warm and fudgy...and sweet." Felix blushed as Chan complimented the food, only to silently reprimand himself. It's a simple compliment, why are you embarrassed?
"Dude you should have been there when Felix and Minnie completely ruined the pancakes! We went through so much butter-"
"Hey!" Seungmin interrupted, hoping to spare himself the reminder. Slowly, people began saying their goodbyes, thanking Felix for the food and leaving Jisung's gifts by the door.
"Come on." Without warning, Minho all but dragged Jisung out of the dorm, car keys in hand. He better not do anything stupid. Turning to the mountain of dishes, Felix sighed and began cleaning up.
"Hey."
"Hey." His response was quiet, but he automatically felt more comfortable with the other's presence.
"Those brownies were really good."
"Thanks." The two finished the dishes before Felix offered to turn on the tv.
"Ooh, It's Fine To Not Be Fine. I like that one," Chan said, leaning over the back of the couch.
"Did you want to watch something else?"
"Nah, this one's good." He settled on the couch next to Felix. Sometime between the second and third episodes, Felix had ended up cuddled into Chan's side. The latter of which wrapped his arm around him, causing the boy to stiffen.
"Too much?" He began to move his arm back.
"No!" Felix protested quickly, "It's fine." The darker haired boy ruffled his hair before pulling Felix in closer.
This is nice.
Somehow, Felix fell asleep against the older boy. He woke up in warm arms, to find that both of them had fallen asleep on the couch. Smiling to himself, he shifted his head to look at the still sleeping Chan. He's handsome when he's asleep. Usually, Chan's brows were always slightly scrunched together, whether it was from stress or generic confusion, Felix didn't know. In sleep though, he seemed at peace with a slight smile. Snuggling further into the boy's arms, he closed his eyes and went back to sleep.
I like you. A lot.
