first
The first time Felix met Chan was at the ice cream shop.
To say Felix was annoyed would have been an understatement. He had spent most of the day sprawled across his bed aimlessly scrolling through his feed on Instar. His best friend had ditched him to hang out with his boyfriend. Honestly, Felix couldn't blame him.
His phone indicated that it was far past lunchtime, but he was hungry anyway. Shrugging on a hoodie, he grabbed his keys before walking out the door. Maybe I'll check out that new ice cream shop.
It was rather brisk outside, and the blonde almost regretted not grabbing a hat. Since it was autumn, Felix was able to enjoy the bright red and orange leaves falling to the ground. If only I brought my camera. Eventually, he arrived outside a rather quaint white shop right next to the busy bookstore he often studied at. He paused, gazing through the glass. The inside was pale and stagnant compared to the bustling commotion next door. The ice cream better be good.
The door jingled as he stepped inside. A man behind the counter glanced up from his phone. His hair, although also blonde, was much more frizzy. They locked eyes for a moment before Felix instinctively turned away. He peered at his nametag, Chan, a name he didn't recognize. As he neared the counter, the man spoke up.
"What can I get for you, sunshine?" The boy, Chan, grinned at him, winking.
"Ew." The sound of disgust tumbled out, and he was sure his expression matched. No matter how cute the man in front of him was, those words ruined it.
"Oops, sorry. That was too far, huh?" Awkwardly, he scratched the back of his head, mumbling to himself. Felix almost felt bad for the man.
"Yeah, kinda."
"Well, what can I get you? It's a little cold for ice cream, don't you think?"
"You're the one working here." Felix inwardly cursed at himself. Why are you shutting down the conversation?
"You do have a point." Luckily, Chan seemed unfazed. He gestured aimlessly at the menu behind him, rattling off a few popular flavors.
"I'll take strawberry."
"You sure? It's pretty sweet."
"I like sweets."
"So do I." He winked again, though this time Felix let out a little chuckle. "Cup or cone?"
"Cup please."
He watched the man put his order together, pausing momentarily to glance at his muscles. Damn. Maybe I need to work out more. Felix self consciously rubbed his arms, knowing that under all the layers, there was no way he could compare.
"Hey, you good?" Chan had a concerned look on his face as he held out the cone.
"Yeah." Accepting it, Felix scrambled to find his wallet. Shit.
"That'll be-"
"I-uh-I'm so sorry! I left my wallet at home. I can go run and get it? I'll be right back, I promise!" He was sure his face was ten shades of red. Oh my gosh, how did I manage that? Looking up, he found the blonde man smirking. I must look so stupid.
"How about this, you give me your number and we'll call it a deal." He's gonna call the police on me or something. Felix recalled Chan's muscular arms. What if his friends are thugs?
"Hey, no pressure! It's on me, regardless." Chan offered a warm smile, showing off his dimples.
"No, no it's alright." Felix quickly scribbled his number on the receipt before handing it back. He glanced outside, not quite ready to go back to the cold.
"Is it alright if I eat in here?"
"Of course, I could use the company." Poor guy. I'd go crazy if I was stuck by myself all day. Then again Felix would probably have eaten all the ice cream by then.
It must have been thirty minutes or so, but the shop remained empty aside from the two of them.
"So is this your job?" If the shop was always this vacant, there was no way it'd stay in business.
"Yup. It helps pay for tuition." Felix was surprised. He was almost sure the man was at least a few years older than him.
"What college do you go to?"
"JYP University."
"Yo same!" It was odd that he hadn't seen him before. The college wasn't particularly small, but everyone always seemed to know each other anyway.
"Nice." The more Felix listened to Chan's voice, the more he felt at home.
He took a spoonful of the ice cream and smiled to himself.
It really was sweet.
