The first time Chan saw Felix was when the boy wandered into the shop.
He had been working for hours, but the air remained stagnant. Now he understood why his boss didn't care whether more than one person showed up. The door jingled, and he quickly stuffed his phone into his pocket.
When the boy entered, Chan's heart pretty much melted on sight.
"What can I get for you, sunshine?" He winked, hoping to catch his attention. Those freckles are adorable.
"Ew." Yikes. The boy offered him a look of confusion and disgust, causing his face to redden.
"Oops, sorry. That was too far, huh?" Awkwardly, Chan scratched the back of his neck. Why are you so dumb?
"Yeah, kinda."
"Well, what can I get you? It's a little cold for ice cream, don't you think?" He tried to salvage whatever attention from the other.
"You're the one working here."
"You do have a point." He tried to cover up the discomfort in the air, rattling off whatever flavors he could think of.
"I'll take strawberry."
"You sure? It's pretty sweet."
"I like sweets."
"So do I." Chan winked, earning a chuckle out of the other. Success! By the end, not only did Chan have a name to match a face, but a number as well. Unsure of how to go further, he turned to a handful of friends.
The second time he saw the boy was after following one of his friend's suggestions.
"Send a selfie, make sure it's hot!" Dismissing Jackson's bold suggestion, he moved on.
"Call him! Do aegyo!" Chan shook his head, obviously, Sana was not the best choice.
"Why don't you just have a normal conversation and throw in a pick-up line or two?" For once, Momo seemed to be the most sensible of the group.
Unknown number
Hey, felix right?
it's Chan from the ice cream shop.
He couldn't help but grin as they texted, occasionally laughing to himself. When he realized Felix was Jisung's friend and was attending the concert, his nerves acted up almost immediately. He practiced his lines more than usual to himself, praying he wouldn't mess up. After the show, he greeted Felix, trying to play it cool. When the younger boy smiled, it was like his whole world lit up. His eyes sparkled and his face held pure joy. I wish I could see this every day. From then on, he addressed the boy as Sunshine.
The third time was when he went to Jisung's surprise party.
He knew he wasn't officially on the guest list, but the brownies and what followed were worth it. When Felix fell asleep against him, Chan couldn't help but smile to himself. It was surprising that they were already so close, but he didn't mind. Jisung and Minho caught them at some point, taking a few pictures before waking the older boy up and informing him it was Felix's birthday. He got up slowly making sure not to wake the other before going to buy some coffee and a smoothie for him.
"Americanooo~"
"Yeah, I got it Jisung." Chan shushed the other, hoping to avoid waking Felix. Minho left with him, though they didn't really talk, each going their own way.
The fourth was when he returned to find the two in an interesting position.
"It's not what it looks like!" Chan didn't press further, even though it would have been fun to tease the poor boy.
The entire day was amazing, and it ended with a sugar-sweet kiss that Chan would probably remember forever.
The fifth time was purely by accident.
Jisung had called him up, demanding he help with their assignment that wasn't due for another week. When he got to the school, however, he was greeted with a sticky note informing him he should hang out with Felix. And who would say no to that request? That is until he decided to go all out and ask the other to be his boyfriend. When Felix questioned him, the boy felt his heart sink, only for it to rise up again with his response. Of course, Momo added her own spice when they took a break to get ice cream. The older girl still liked to act like a high schooler for absolutely no good reason. But it didn't matter, he got to see Felix happy, and that was the only thing that was important.
The sixth time was when he finally took his Sunshine on a date.
He didn't count on running into so many friends. Then again, he didn't plan on embarrassing himself by eating a mouthful of what he knew full well was too spicy. As he drove the boy home, he kept glancing over, trying to gauge the other's feelings. Felix was smiling, which was enough for Chan.
And every day after that.
They met many more times, but who was he to keep track? All that mattered to him was that he'd be able to his Sunshine again and again. They were supposed to meet up at the ice cream shop today, but it was raining and Chan doubted the other was going to show up. It was probably better that he didn't, given the weather. He sighed, not wanting to leave the dreary store in favor of the storm outside. Chan was about to close up when the door opened with the same jingle as before. The smile that lit up his world came into view again and he welcomed it with open arms.
Life can be so sweet.
