Chapter 27: CALL

Sylis looked at the phone, his eyebrows coming together to kiss in confusion. He picket the device up and put it to his ear. "Hello?"

"Greetings, Sylis Penn Youngblood," came the familiar female voice. His brain instantly gave him the answer though he only heard her voice once before, he knew who it was.

"Lee Little?" Sylis dug into his pocket, he had moved everything into his dry pants. He grabbed the Li phone number and placed it down on his desk.

"Not exactly, that is one of my alliances. I am sure you are farmilr with legends. Is that not correct, Silvan?" Sylis took the cell phone from his ear and held it in his hands before him. He checked the phone number on his phone then at the number on the piece of paper.

They were the same.

"Dont call me that, Lilith," he spat out. For some reason he felt resentment towards Lilin's little sister. Was it because he was tricked in some way? Was it his given name or simply just her? He didn't know.

"So you went to her old apartment?" Her voice was calm controlled, and montone. It was like his, before he met Lilin Cozbi and her daughter.

"How would you know that?" His grip on the phone tightened, as if he were trying to crush the thing in between his hand.

"I shall take that as a yes."

"You didn't answer my question," Sylis challenged, standing up from his chair. He needed to know and release some of this growing pressure.

"I do not have to tell you anything." Her voice had a hint of annoyance. Sylis stopped to smirk. He had not been thinking rationally the past few days and making this woman angry would be fun and some sort of revenge for the unfair title he had labeled her as.

"Well, I do not have to tell you anything either." He began making his way through the multiple rooms in his house. How else could he anger her? Arrogance perhaps? "You know, I heard that Lilin was an assassin. How can you ever be the sister of an assassin?" He didn't like talking about Lilin in that way, but he thought it would annoy Lilith if he bad talked her sister.

"How-" He heard something thud on the other side of the line. She clicked her tongue and took in a deep breath. "How dare you talking about Lilin like that." Her voice was a breathy whisper, but held enough disdain to slit his throat. Sylis frowned. He immediately regretted his words but could not take them back.

She continued, but her voice was raised in anger, "How can Lilin love someone like you? You know, she had to kill to put food on the tale. She murdered to survive. She cared more about me than herself at times. I don't know what she see is you but—"

"Lilin loves me?"

Sylis know knew a few things. 1. Lilin was her true name and not a legend like his and 2. Lilin true loved him. It was as good as a confession as he could get considering the circumstances.

Lilith quieted herself down. "Yes...unfortanly." She sighed. "We both know that you know about my occupation. We are both spies so it's not that hard to gather information about each other. I know almost everything about you, except your personality. Now I know that your are rude and childish."

"I'm sorry that I acted the way I did," Sylis apologized. "It's just that I am stressed about Lilin and Piper. I don't know where they are and I'm worried sick about them. I know that's no excused but-"

A sigh interpreted Sylis' apology. "Fine, I will re-evaluate your personality once you calm down. I will give you a lass this time considering the circumstances..."

"Do you know where they are?" Sylis' voice held a hint of depersation.

"Sadly no. Not even I am permitted to know their current location, but I have made the ready operations for their arrival." A long pause was created after she stopped talking. Even the rain was louder than the silence. "So..." Lilith elongated the word so it cresendoed from and into nothing. "...did you take care of him?"

"Him?" Sylis questioned what she meant.

"The assassin's assassin," she tried. Oh, of course.

Sylis shook his head. "No, but I figured out that he is probably the shadow killer."

"The shadow killer? Really? I didn't know that...if it really is him then we are in real trouble. Germany drill doesn't know—"

"—alot about him. I know. But we got a price of physical evidence on him today. A 9mm bullet casing. Same as Lilin's ex—er—assassin."

A breath of a laugh came out of Lilith. "Her ex? Really? That's was the cover story she came up with? My Lilin, dating? She could of at least came up with a more believeable falsehood."

Sylis was envious to ask this question, but he wanted to confirm his worries. "...so she isn't married?"

"Tch, Lilin's very particular with her love life. I had never seen her date anyone. The only one who came close was Oscar Cozbi. She took his surname on an assassin mission one time if I remember correctly." Sylis let out a breath of air he had been holding.

"Wait, are you—are you really in love with her?"

"Uh oh." Sylis slammed a hand over his mouth as the words left his mouth.

Awkward silence went between them like a third wheeler interrupting aalmost makeup session.

"Well, I hope you find and protect her. She is my older sister after all."
