Chapter 24: An Evil that can Love.
The lair was dark but not as much as Gruumm's ship. The walls were illuminated with yellow, which was complimented by green and a concrete floor. Grunts and cries echoed through the halls as a pair of fists pounded on one of the drones that carried her over its shoulder. "P- Put me down!" She knew that the dinosaur man ignored her plea, for he strode ahead of the horde of drones and wandered into a room. An automated door hissed open and the minute it did, not only did he come to a halt next to a long table but the drones did too.
Feige was able to see everything from her position, despite dangling over its shoulder, her head lifted to take in the environment. Nonetheless, her eyes glowed brightly the second her anxiety spiked, and a disperse of telekinetic power erupted followed by her terrified shriek.
Luckily the room was bare, save for the table donned with metal plates, most likely to keep hostages. All of the drones and the dino man flew away, crashing against the wall like many times before when her power went out of control. As soon as she landed on her stomach, her legs pushed to sit on her butt, and tried her best to gain distance from them. Even though all she did was scoot across the floor, backward, with fearful eyes locked onto astonished predatory ones.
Further and further away, tightly against a corner opposite of them, she curled her knees close to her chest and watched in distress. It was hard not to look, he had a similar vibe to Atsuon and it unnerved her terribly. A predator, calculative, with subtle movements, was what she noticed about him as he stood back up and made his way to her inch by inch.
Not a word was spoken, only his studious stare remained on her as if she were a new specimen or an unknown creature. "S- Stay away," The beating of her heart and the shaking in her limbs were enough to know that it was too dangerous for anyone to get close, she didn't want to risk anyone's life.
The dino man ignored her and made more cautious steps toward her. To the best of her ability, she tried to read his mind, there was a connection, but no thoughts came from him, and that made her fear worse. Is he not thinking? At all? Who is he? Why is he so persistent? Just as watchful as him, when he started to get too close, her hand reached out and held him in place.
Growling low at her, a lot of effort was put into moving against her force, for his body shook from the strain and managed to move one foot forward. The sight was enough to make her freak out and push him so hard that it made him fly across the room with a crash. Her small whimpers didn't go unnoticed by the prehistoric male, he stood back up as if nothing happened and repeated his previous growl.
"Master, it seems we have a visito--" In came a gothic woman who stopped dead in her tracks, once she saw the dino man stare intently at the woman in the corner. "You decided to bring her here? She looks pathetic," Feige's glance at the woman gave her enough detail about her face, to know that she wasn't pleased to see her here and it didn't help how she felt right now.
"She isn't... She is far more dangerous than what I have anticipated, Elsa. She lacks strength-- but her mental capabilities are beyond anything I've seen," Answered the dino man, who put his hands behind his back again and made subtle steps closer once more.
From what Feige could see, he doesn't give up too easily. "D- Don't come any closer!" Her heart rate spiked and the sound of metal bending echoed behind the two. Both of them looked behind them to see the table from before, tearing off the floor bits at a time, and saw the plates used to hold hostages, rip from their hinges.
"Would you like me to do the honors? She'd be better off unconscious," The lift of Elsa's brow and a sneer on her black lips told Feige that she hated the idea of her even being there.
"No. Now... Who is this visitor?" Mr. Prehistoric ignored the table that lifted high into the air and moved his attention to Feige, not a care in the world if the thing behind him was going to hit him.
"Whoever you are-- you will pay for taking Feige!" Everyone in the room looked to the doorway and saw Gruumm enter with a boom of his voice. Rubies glinted brightly when his staff glowed and shot out a wave of power to knock them away. The whole room lit up, but that didn't stop the brunette from rushing to her feet.
"Gruumm!" Her hands reached for his arm when he lowered his staff and glanced at her. "T- The dinosaur guy t- took me by surprise. I'm sorry! I warned him! I told him that you would come and find me and destroy him but he didn't listen! D- Don't do anything stupid, okay? If you vaporize him, it could ruin the timeline!" She had to act fast and speak quickly, lest any leftover rage would spill out and most likely ruin everything.
"I don't care... You should have listened to me-- when I said for you stay on my ship!" This time it was his turn to raise his voice. His skeletal head whipped to face her and not once did the crimson in his eyes fade. "We need to hurry, or else we will be stuck here! Vaporizing this worm will just stall us!" He wasted no time yanking her off of her feet and putting her under his arm.
Although the floor was the only thing she could see now, her head barely managed to perk up to see the dino man's face. "I don't care who you are, but stay away from her," A dangerous, low tone filled his voice when he pointed the end of his staff at the two and watched them cautiously step away.
"I wanted to know your reason for being here. She wouldn't tell me... Perhaps you can," Mr. Prehistoric stated with a lift of his red claw and demanded his drones that were pushed away moments ago, to prepare for an ambush.
"I don't have time for this!" With ease, the Emperor pulled his staff back, shot another wave of power, and knocked them all back with a small and unnecessary Michael Bay explosion. With a quick turn of his heel, he hurried down the hall and peeked at the brunette who returned the same stare. "Pull out my device. We're teleporting back to my ship," He demanded, to which Feige nodded and used her telekinetic power to take the button out of his pocket.
Into her hands, she pressed the button in the center and within seconds they were gone.
~~~
Back onto Gruumm's ship they strode, made their way into the Monitoring Room, and lifted his staff to make the ship go through the wormhole. Now that they were on their way back to their timeline, Feige felt his arm release her so she quickly righted herself to stand up.
"T- Thank you. I feel so stupid," Closing her eyes, her hands rubbing her face, she didn't notice the silent stare from the Emperor and the shake of his head.
"Why did you want to leave in the first place?" She heard him ask and felt a faint breeze as he passed by.
"B- Because... I... Needed to clear my head and-- b- being here wasn't helping," As bright as a red light, her face burned, and refused to look up to see his reaction. Yeah-- some time to clear my head from all of those thoughts of you. Her mind mumbled about, continuing her speech so he wouldn't have to hear, unfortunately, he was reading her mind that time because she didn't pay attention to his hard focus on her and the closeness he made.
He didn't say anything. Overhearing her thoughts made him flustered and his rubies pulsed, he probably thanked the surrounding stars that she didn't see them. "Fine... But next time-- take a walk in our own timeline," With that, he left the room and unbeknownst to her, headed to his Private Chambers.
~~~~
"Yes... I have failed. I have underestimated the enemy. It will not happen again," Gruumm's gravelly voice filled his Private Chambers as he spoke to Omni.
Perhaps I should find myself a new Co-leader. You are losing your touch. Its raspy words filled his mind.
"That is not necessary. I can do this!" With a fist clenched, he nodded and fear of dethronement clouded his mind. To lose his position, would almost mean losing Feige and everything else that he's worked hard for.
Then I believe it's time I take this matter into my own hands... Finish up my body so I can! Anger from the thing was inevitable when he heard Omni speak.
"Yes... Your Magnificence. I will prepare... For your arrival," His skull looked up to view the ceiling, fear engulfed his otherwise dark heart at the idea of Omni appearing. Many things could occur and it made him worry over Feige's well-being, having to come face to face with it on her own made him want to run to her right now. He wanted to pick her up, run away with her, and be done with the Magnificence. To get away from it all, from the fear, the stained blood on his hands from the countless lives he's taken in the past.
Around her, he found a sense of calm, normalcy, acceptance, comfort, a kind of joy he had nearly forgotten about since his long reign, and a lack of stress. To him, when he'd look at her, all he was able to see was a sweet little, fluffy bunny shivering in fear and covered in red from accidental kills.
How her violet eyes could take his breath away with a single look, good or bad. Her lack of physical strength compared to him and how hard it is for her to defend herself, because of her soft heart of not wanting to kill anyone. The smiles she manages to pull out of him, including his laughter, and playfulness he didn't think would still be in him.
How can I tell her... How I feel? I don't know the words. Leaning over, his hand clenched the bone of his armored chest the more he thought about her. There was a strange tug, some kind of pull he couldn't understand, an ache. It was like a craving for food but not.
From his seat, he strode out of his chambers and headed back to the Monitoring Room. Since Feige wasn't there, he couldn't help but frown, that was until Mora walked in and greeted him.
"Hello, Lord Gruumm!" A smirk on the girl's lips soon fell when she carried Cindy Sunshine around and hugged her close. "When are you going to use Feige?" Blinking, curious, her head cocked to one side as he passed her by to stand close to his seat.
He didn't know how to answer, that burning sensation from before returned tenfold after he remembered that she was his Trump Card from the start and it bugged him.
"If she's going to be your Trump Card against the Power Rangers, why haven't you used her yet? If she's not anymore, I could try and find someone else to--" Before she could speak any further, the Emperor's voice boomed so loud that it made the girl's ears ring.
"No! She's mine! She's my weapon! I'd rather die than have anyone else take her from me! You dare threaten me, by offering to find someone else to use her?! She's--" This time, it was his turn to get cut off. With a finger pointed dangerously at the child and rubies as bright as a streetlight, he gradually looked toward the entrance of the room.
There she was. Her eyes were full of disbelief, speechless, and the moment he saw a single tear roll down her cheek he snapped out of it. "F- Feige..." He trailed off, lowered his hand from Mora, and made subtle steps closer.
He saw her lips quiver, more tears fell, and a glare in her eyes that could kill if it were possible. No, not kill, there was more pain in her eyes than murderous intent, he took in every ounce of emotion that was on her face. The spit she swallowed and the shaky breaths that left her nose, he didn't know what to say now.
"Y- You were playing me this whole time? I- I thought we were f- friends. But no... I'm just a friggin weapon to you just like everyone else!" The entire room was filled with her scream. Her outburst made his chair fly back behind him and bounce off the railings, which he had to dodge to not get hit. Her head shook from side to side, denial and disbelief mixed with anger that burned a hole in his skull. "I'm apparently less than a friend to you!" As if on cue, the sound of her feet patting against the metal floors and into the halls was echoing the second she went into a full sprint.
"Wait!" He wasted no time, he ran as fast as his armored body could but she was still much faster.
~~~~
He lied to me this whole time! First about his identity and now about being my friend! I knew it! I knew it but I didn't want to believe it! He was confused! Her heart clenched the more she thought about the words she eavesdropped on. When she approached the teleporter and punched in coordinates at random, she disappeared. Feige had no idea that he chased after her, she was too lost in her emotional state to notice.
After appearing in the middle of New Tech City, she took to the sky and flew high above the skyscrapers. Her body shook, being deceived the whole time, and feeling like she just lost a close friend plagued her mind. After everything that we've done together, the things I've done for him, and what he's done for me... Were they for nothing?! From the thunder above her, cold and wet droplets touched her skin but it didn't make her flight waver in the least.
Down she went, landing gently in the grass. At a park where people drove or ran away to get out of the rain, she wandered to a bench and sat down. Her hands grasped her biceps when she leaned over to cry. "Aah!" There she went, her crying was mixing in with the rain that began to pour harder and harder.
Her body never stopped shaking, for her fingers clenched tighter onto her arms and ignored how her hair became a curtain to hide her reddened face. It hurt so much. Betrayal, to a love that started to bloom, a love she didn't know was real toward him. Back and forth she started to rock, thankful that no one was around to see her disheveled state.
~~~~
Gruumm had to return to his human form to blend in. The heavy rain never lightened up, nor did he care if it did, and sprinted through the street. Where is she? Where is she?! Eyes as wide as Feige's was, he aimlessly searched for her.
"Feige!" He called out, looked through the slums of the city, and ran past the homeless. "Feige!" Again, he called, for he ignored the confused stares from others. Everything that she's done for him, made him feel again, and the things she did to make him laugh. Understanding, accepting, and caring... Sweet. It was an addiction to be around her, so to have her leave like this drove him into a frenzy.
"Feige-- where are you?!" One more time, he tried. However, when he came across Piggy's Cafe', he wasted not a single minute and bolted past a few tables. His dark human eyes examined each customer, who in return, stared and began to leave.
Coming out of his little station was Piggy, carrying drinks over to a couple of people. Grimly's feet pushed past everyone and with a harsh grip, he pulled the alien inches off the ground to his face. "Where is Feige?! Do you know where she went?!" Fury made his eyes glow, which he noticed unease from the alien and watched him squirm.
"A- Ah... N- No! Not at all! I- Is something the matter, my Emperor? Did something happen?" The knit of his nonexistent brows and the nervousness in his voice were enough for Gruumm to release him.
"Yes!" Through a strong voice, veins popped out of his neck and everyone left in a hurry upon the mention of who he was. "She heard me call her a weapon! I need to find her and clear any misunderstandings!" To the side, he kicked at a chair to make it scoot out for him and sat down. The radio quietly played in the background and filled the otherwise silent Cafe'.
"She heard you call her a weapon? She eavesdropped? Maybe... A- Apologizing to her, will fix it?" Gruumm didn't see the curious tilt of Piggy's head, for he was staring at the table's surface.
Leaning over, fingers intertwined, his forehead pressed to his hands when he propped his elbows up. "I do not apologize! I never have and I never--" He snapped at the alien, grumbled, and shook his head when he abruptly stopped his speech. "She had so much pain in her eyes when she heard me. S- She saw me as her friend," Groaning into his hands, he had no one else to talk to about this issue, so he figured Piggy was the best option and leaned his head back against the chair.
"Well... Any friend would be hurt to hear that. What is she to you? Is she a friend? Is she your weapon? Or is she... More?" It was astonishing to the alien to have the Evil Emperor Gruumm approach him with such issues and expect to help him with something that wasn't related to a crime.
Suddenly, the song Cold by Crossfade, began to play on the radio and his ears picked it up. He went quiet now, the lyrics from the song continued to ring in his ears the more he listened and didn't answer the alien.
https://youtu.be/QuzDghzyVjk
"Looking back at me-- I see that I never really got it right.~" The song sang out, some of the lyrics didn't seem to fit how he felt, like the next part. "I never stopped to think of you," However, what came after, made him look in the radio's direction and scowled. "Always wrapped up in the things I cannot win! You are the antidote that gets me by something strong, like a drug that gets me... High!~" The last word that was prolonged, made him lean over the table and groan into his hand.
"What I really meant to say-- is I'm sorry for the way, I am! I never meant to be so cold... Never meant to be so cold. What I really meant to say-- is I'm sorry for the way, I am! I never meant to be so cold... Never meant to be so-- Cold to you! I'm sorry about all the lies!" From there a leg began to bounce and moved his head back the second his arms folded. He ignored the confused stare from Piggy and the fact that he walked away to leave him be.
"Maybe in a different light, you could see me stand on my own again. Cause I can see-- You were the antidote that got me by something strong, like a drug that got me... High!~" It continued and repeated its previous lyrics. "What I really meant to say-- is I'm sorry for the way, I am! I never meant to be so cold... Never meant to be so cold. What I really meant to say-- is I'm sorry for the way, I am! I never meant to be so cold... Never meant to be so cold," As some calm instruments played to give a short pause, the lyrics started to piss him off.
"I never meant to be... Soooo coooooold.~" As soon as that last bit came from the radio, he stood up, roared, and didn't care that the veins in his neck showed.
"I get it already!" Screaming, fuming, indigo lightning shot out and scorched the radio like it was an annoying alarm clock. With an explosion, it shattered to pieces, for he ignored the complaint from Piggy, and looked away.
"My radio! I paid a good sum for that!" To the floor, Piggy picked up chunks from the device and whined. "If you're that worried about her, then check wherever you two first met!" The alien groaned irritably as he picked up more pieces and looked at the broken part.
It was as if it dawned on him. The Emperor stood wide-eyed at his words and bolted away to the very place he remembered. The place where he was able to hold a decent conversation with her for the first time, despite all of the running away and pleas for him to leave her alone.
His shoes trudged through small puddles as he ran through the slums and out into the streets. Past citizens, through the crowds, he weaved and leaped over many heads. Finally, after roughly five minutes or so, maybe more, he ran into the park where he recalled being flown across by her power for the first time which took him by surprise.
There, on a bench, the same bench he sat down on to meet with her, was a crying brunette whose face was veiled by her hair. Slow steps made the distance between them close in, as he watched her rock back and forth. Her body shook as her sobs were nearly mixed with the downpour, soppy-wet from head to toe. Her hair clung to her skin and her short dress stuck to her body as if she just dove in water and came back out.
Fists clenched at the sight, so much like before in his Private Chambers, he decided to let his actions speak for him. After those several sluggish steps toward her, he finally stopped next to her and watched her violet eyes peek through the wet strands of her hair. His heavy breaths from running all over the city trying to find her were evident.
Quickly from her seat, she stood up and backed away. "Stay away from me! I'm just a weapon to you!" As fast as her feet could run, she sprinted across the park, to which he gave chase.
Red glinted in his dark eyes, his human body was faster than his true form and when he grabbed her by the wrist he yanked her around to face him. "Let go of me!" Over and over her fist pounded on his chest, but he didn't care. For what he was about to do would leave her speechless, he knew it would.
Picking her up, he heard her cry out, so he rushed over to the closest tree and pushed her against it. Her back was to its base and her legs sat on either side of his hips, for he held her face to make her look at him. "You are my weapon! Mine! My bane to my fear! My... Everything!" Roaring in her face, he couldn't explain it to her, so his lips locked onto hers with a kind of passion that he kept deep inside.
Those dark but glinting eyes were closed tightly, so he didn't get to see her astonished eyes and her frozen position. He could feel her push and shove, it was enough to break the kiss but the moment she tried to speak he repeated his gesture.
Another greedy claim to her lips, a more passionate one that made tears cascade down her cheeks. He felt her arms pull him close deepening it, which he was delighted about, and hugged her torso.
Grimly... Why didn't you just tell me... The truth? Why didn't you just tell me... How you felt? Emotional, her voice was in his head, but he didn't answer and kept with their kiss. He didn't care if the rain soaked him, he didn't care about anything else right now except making sure that she knew how he felt through his actions. Because, never in his life, did he feel this way before save for the family he once loved on his home planet before it was destroyed.
It was a different kind of love. Something deeper, something with more passion, an addiction he didn't want to get away from, and it drove him crazy. "Read my emotions... Feel them!" For a moment, between breaths, he looked deep into her eyes and saw her stare at him in a daze. He watched her inspect his mind, and the second he felt her wet and cold hands on his face, her quivering lips turned into a smile so sweet that he had to capture them again. With as much passion behind it, a small whimper came from her throat when she kissed back and pulled him as close to her as she could get.
G- Grimly... Gruumm... Don't say such things again! At this point, the kiss was getting heated. However, when he leaned his head back to stare into her beautiful violets, he grinned at her thoughts and chuckled.
"Never... Again. Let's get back to my ship," One last time, he kissed her, and he felt her return with as much passion as him and kept her tight against him.
