chapter 4

Speak, speak easy to me. Got a lot on your mind, this time tonight.

And now it was Taehyung's turn to have trouble falling asleep. Usually, he didn't have any problems concerning sleep. Once his head hit the pillow, he was out.

Unlike Jungkook, sleeping was the only way to escape the burning desire in him to die.

Speak, speak easy to me. My victory is sweet, and holds defeat. Speak, and let your world come undone.

Maybe he was suicidal, maybe he was depressed, but Taehyung didn't know. He just wanted to die.

But that changed over the last couple of weeks, ever since he had met Jungkook. That feeling of wanting death, changed into wanting the dead boy in his class.

Taehyung was almost certain Jungkook would never want him in the same way, and that's what was bothering him.

But little did he know, Jungkook was having the same problem, two miles away.

And oh God, this is the last time. Can we keep the dialogue? Will it ever be enough?

The next day, as Jungkook was walking to school, he heard someone shout him name.

"Jungkook! Kookie!"

Jungkook groaned, turning around and seeing Jimin running towards him.

"Ah, there you are. I was looking for you." Jimin grinned, slapping a hand on Jungkook's shoulder.

"So how's my lover boy doing?" Jimin asked, mockingly.

"Can you not call me that? I'm not in love with him."

Jimin laughed. "Soon you will be."

Jungkook groaned in response, kicking at a rock on the ground. They were almost at school, and Jungkook didn't want to have to deal with Jimin teasing him every single time Taehyung walked by.

They walked to the front doors, joining the plethora of other students walking in, ready for the first class of the day.

"Oh my god, there he is!" Jimin yelped, jumping up and down in excitement. He waved towards Taehyung, catching his attention.

"I fucking swear, if you say anything-" Jungkook began to harshly whisper, but when Taehyung approached them, he smiled.

Jimin giggled. "Hi Taehyung!"

"Hi Jimin." He waved politely in return, facing Jungkook.

"So Jimin is your friend?"

Jungkook nodded, not exactly trusting himself to speak at the moment.

"We're best friends, right Jungkookie?" Jimin placed his arm around Jungkook's shoulder, still grinning.

Jungkook groaned. He hated that nickname.

Then, awkward silence filled the space. Other students ran past them yelling, along others that were walking and talking.

Jimin cleared his throat. "Well, the bell is about to ring, so uh, I'm gonna leave you two alone." Jimin walked away, winking at Jungkook as he left.

Taehyung laughed once Jimin was out of earshot. "He's certainly still as energetic as when I knew him back in grade school."

"Some things never change." Jungkook mumbled, with Taehyung still smiling.

The bell rang, but Taehyung and Jungkook didn't move in the direction of their first classes.

Instead, they both found themselves walking towards the back door, and eventually outside.

"Where are we going?" Jungkook asked.

"We're ditching, isn't it obvious?" Taehyung replied, grinning mischievously. Suddenly, Jungkook felt on top of the world. He was skipping school with the guy he liked.

When did that ever happened?

They kept on walking for a while, finally approaching a park near the school. Taehyung squealed in delight when they both saw a pair a swings, and ran over to it, Jungkook trailing behind.

Taehyung sat down on the swing, pushing off with his feet, and began to swing back and forth.

"C'mon Jungkook!" Jungkook stood in front of Taehyung, staring off into the distance.

He didn't respond.

"Jungkook..." Taehyung stopped, watching Jungkook intently.

And Taehyung realized, that in that moment, that Jungkook was beautiful. He was beyond beautiful, and he was just standing there.

"Jungkook, come swing with me." Taehyung reached out his hand, and Jungkook snapped out of whatever trance he was in, and took Taehyung's hand.

They both sat in there, swinging with their hands interlocked in the middle. None of them spoke, only comfortable silence filling the space between them.

"Taehyung..." Jungkook turned his head towards the other, gazing at him adoringly.

"Yeah?"

Jungkook took a deep breath, taking Taehyung's hand, and turning palm up, as he started tracing designs and words into Taehyung's palm.

"Are you scared of anything?"

Taehyung nodded. "Everyone is. It's natural to be afraid." Jungkook shook his head in response.

"But what are you afraid of?"

Taehyung opened his mouth to answer, but paused, seeming uncertain.

"I guess I'm afraid of heights." Taehyung chuckled, looking away. Jungkook continued touching his palm lightly with his fingertips, smiling softly.

"Well, at least it's better then my fear. Being afraid of heights is kinda normal."

"Well, what are you afraid of?" Taehyung asked.

"Falling asleep."

Taehyung nodded, not saying anything. It explained a lot as to why Jungkook had insomnia.

"I mean, what happened? Why are you scared of falling asleep?"

Jungkook shrugged. "I just remember one night, going to sleep normally, and then the next night I had these terrible nightmares, and ever since then I've been scared." He chuckled. "It's stupid."

Taehyung shook his head. "No it's not, fear isn't a stupid concept, Jungkook."

"Well, then tell me why you're afraid of heights."

Taehyung froze.

"Taehyung! What do you think you're doing? Get done from there!"

He could hear Hoseok yelling at him, about 15 feet away. Taehyung hadn't meant for Hoseok to find him standing on the ledge.

"Taehyung, please!"

Taehyung turned around, facing Hoseok.

"I'm sorry."

And he tilted backwards, letting himself fall.

"I-I guess I'm just scared." Taehyung looked down at his feet, withdrawing his hand from Jungkook's grasp.

"Being afraid of heights is already stupid enough, but my reason for being afraid is even more unreasonable."

Jungkook shook his head, staring off towards the street once again.

"Nothing is more unreasonable then being afraid of something your body depends on for survival."

He had been in a coma for 3 months, and when he woke up, Hoseok had left him.

"I always promised myself that I would never love someone who wished to die, Taehyung. You knew that!"

"One time, I was on top of a building, and I decided to jump." Taehyung explained quickly.

He was grateful that Jungkook didn't ask any questions. He just took Taehyung's hand once again.

"Just promise me to never jump again."
