Chapter Eight ➳

Will decided to stay in bed the rest of the day and Bill was somewhat pissed off about that. The blonde didn't want to leave his brother's side because he was worried, but being confined in a room for so long can get boring and can definitely make one sleepy. Bill made a vow that he wouldn't fall asleep until it was time for bed, like a normal human. No naps.

"Y-you don't have t-to stay with me," Will whispered and glanced up at the other twin.

Bill sighed and kneeled down beside Will's bedside. "Well, I am staying. Gotta make sure Mikey doesn't come back."

Will seemed amused for only a moment before the frown crept onto his face. "Mhm..." He looked up at Bill for a bit and sighed heavily. "Are you g-going to tell W-Wendy?"

Bill glanced away. "No. She doesn't have to know."

"But maybe you could scare Wendy away from Will that way?"

Bill whipped around, terrified when he heard Mabel's voice, but there was no one there.

"Wh-what is it?" Will said shocked at Bill's sudden movement.

Bill studied the room for a second longer before he turned back around slowly. "Nothing... Thought I heard something..."

"Don't pretend like I'm not here..."

The blonde knew it was all in his head. He just had to ignore the demon for a while.

Will seemed concerned for his brother as well, but he didn't push the other. "S-so, did you f-find anything in-interesting in that-that creepy book?"

Bill flinched away, almost forgetting that Will had seen the book before the blonde had hid it. "Oh, um, some things."

Will pursed his lips. "L-like what?"

Bill averted his eyes. "Just cool mystery stuff."

"C-can I come along o-on your next ad-adventure?" he asked so innocently.

Bill sighed softly. "No, I don't think so."

Will looked crestfallen. "Oh..."

Bill shrugged. "Sorry," he murmured.

"Aw, you've deeply disappointed the poor boy," Mabel hummed into his mind.

Go away, Bill thought, annoyed.

"I'm just saying. Bring him along next time to make him happier."

Bill scoffed. And put him in danger? No way.

"You humans and your love. It's so useful and manipulative, yet so annoying at the same time."

It's just because you don't understand it, Bill spat.

Mabel laughed. "Ho-hum, that's so sad isn't it? Like we really care to know about human emotions. Mere distractions if you ask me."

Bill growled. Well, I'm not asking you.

"B-Bill? Hello? Wh-who are you talking t-to?"

Bill blinked, coming out of his thoughts to see Will staring at him, concerned. "Talking to who? What?"

"Y-you were muttering to y-yourself," Will explained.

"I'm just trying to figure something out," Bill lied. "Forget about it."

Will seemed to be tired of the constant lying. "Sure..."

Bill clenched his jaw. Just leave me alone, Mabel. You're only allowed to pester me in my dreams, alright?

Mabel chuckled. "Who said there were any rules to this thing? I can annoy you to any extent. There are no boundaries."

Bill glared at the roof, as if he was glaring at Mabel up there. The blonde really wanted to tell his twin about Mabel and Dipper and what was happening, but that would only put Will in danger. Bill hated having to face all of this alone. He caused the problem so now he'd have to fix it. Alone.

"Just fall asleep again so we can talk," she murmured.

No! Bill protested. Besides, you sent me out of the last dream.

Mabel sighed. "Riiiight."

Bill rolled his eyes. "I'm going stay up as late as I possibly can!"

Will practically jumped out of his skin. "Wh-what?!"

Bill realized he had spoken aloud. "Um, yeah! We're going to stay up late and...and hang out! We don't hang out a lot without reason, Will," he said quickly. Saved it.

The shy twin perked up immediately. "Really?!"

Bill nodded, trying to smile as best as he could muster. "Mhm. And we'll go down to the park tomorrow. It'll be fun."

Will's blue eyes were sparkling with utter delight. Bill never really sent out invitations for his brother to hang out with him. Will was usually shoved away from Bill. But this time, it appeared that the blonde actually wanted to spend quality time with his twin. "Th-this'll be so f-fun!" He got out of bed and hugged Bill. "Th-thank you!"

Bill tensed up under the hug. Will was a very touchy-touchy person, while Bill wasn't. He would go around hugging Bill constantly, but with strangers, it was a different story. It depended on how you touched Will. He was still a jumpy kid.

"Ok, enough hugs," the blonde grunted, unwrapping Will's arms from around his neck.

Will blushed and chuckled. "S-sorry. I'm just h-happy you actually w-want to spend time w-with me."

Bill felt a stab of guilt at that. "Well, it's not night time yet, so we've got a while."

"Nice save, I'll admit. But that's not going to ward me off, you idiot," Mabel hissed.

The blonde cringed at her voice and his gaze darkened. You're not going to mess this up, ok? So good luck trying.
He heard Mabel growl before his mind went silent.

"What's b-been going on w-with you anyways?" Will asked out of the blue.

Bill averted his eyes. "What do you mean?"

Will shrugged. "The c-constant sleeping a-and passing out," he said as an example.

Bill scratched the back of his head, trying to piece together a lie. "I don't know, I guess just growing up stuff and I need more sleep."

Will frowned at his twin. "Y-you need to stop st-staying up so late r-reading those w-weird magazines."

Bill flushed and glared at his brother. "Shut up, you dunce," he spat, angered.

His brother, innocent as he was, blinked in confusion. "What? I-I was just—"

"SH!" the blonde hissed and crossed his arms, ears hot. "Let's talk about something else besides my sleeping habits." Bill tapped his chin. "How about you and Wendy?"

Will's cheeks burned red. "W-what about her?"

Bill chuckled. "You know what," he murmured.

"Sh-she's nice and all," Will stammered nervously.

Bill nodded. "Yeah? And?"

Will glanced away. "That's a-all. I mean, i-it's not like I have m-much of a chance."

The blonde sighed heavily. Will wasn't really the correct person to drag information out of. "What we're you two talking about before Mike took over?"

The blue-haired boy chuckled nervously, hiding his blushing face. "Just a-about normal st-stuff," he stuttered.

Bill cocked an eyebrow. "Oh? Really? What type of normal stuff?"

Will swallowed. "Just about...b-books," he refused to meet Bill's eyes now. That was a huge tell to his brother that Will was lying.

Bill exhaled, giving up. "Whatever."

The other twin looked around the room. "B-Bill, I'm really th-thirsty," he said almost shyly.

Bill made a face. "What am I supposed to do about that?"

"And hungry," Will said like Bill hadn't spoken.

The blonde groaned. "You want to go get lunch or something?"

Will nodded, chuckling. "Y-yeah," he stammered.

"Well, why didn't you just say so?" Bill laughed.

Will smiled as Bill helped him out of bed and led him down stairs, carefully this time, and into the kitchen. Will was walking somewhat unsteadily, as if Mike's "possession" had drained him. It wasn't uncommon for him to be weak after an attack. Will had passed out one time after he managed to get over it. It twisted his mind unwillingly and made him act strangely. It was unnatural for his body.

They still hadn't figured out what the trigger was yet. Even after all these years...

"What you wanna eat, Brother?" Bill asked in a mocking tone.

Will rolled his eyes and plopped down in one of the chairs. "PB&J."

The blonde scoffed. Was that the only type of sandwich his twin ate? It would make sense if Will said he was a vegetarian, but he still liked some meat. For some reason, Will loved corn dogs.

Bill gathered the grape jelly, peanut butter and wheat bread to make the sandwich and got to work. He was so used to doing stupid mindless stuff like this for his brother that it didn't even dawn upon him how sweet the act could be to others. Bill finished creating the sandwich and handed it to Will.

"Here yah go," he said, forcing on a smile.

Will took the food and held it before returning the smile up to his twin. "Th-thanks..."

Bill waved his hand absentmindedly. "Pft, pay no mind. I've been doing stupid stuff like this for years for your sorry butt."

Will rolled his eyes and chuckled, eating his snack. "You gonna g-get a snack?" he asked, his mouth full.

Bill shrugged. "Not hungry."

"M-maybe you should eat. Y-you've been falling a-asleep a lot, m-maybe you're h-hungry," he suggested.

The blonde laughed. "Yeah right. That's not it and I know it."

Will sighed in defeat. "J-just trying to help," he mumbled.

Bill held his head in his hands when a sudden pain jabbed at the back of his head. He hunched over, tensing up and squeezing his eyes shut.

"Y-you ok?" Will asked, but his voice was distant.

"Aw, you and Will are too cute, am I right? No matter how stuck up and thick you act, you love him."

Bill's hands turned into fists. Mabel, leave me alone. I am so tried of this b.s."

Mabel laughed in his head. "Aw... But I'm bored and I wanna talk to a human."

Bill rolled his eyes, holding his pounding his head. Pft, not my problem. Sorry.

Mabel's voice changed from friendly and playful to angered. "I'd watch it if I were you. You don't want me calling over Dipper, do you?"

Bill's thoughts went silent at that. No...

Mabel laughed again. "You are really scared of my bro, aren't yah? Well, I guess that's a good thing. What does he do to you? He never really communicates about that type of stuff."

Bill scrunched up his nose. Why would I tell you about that type of st- His thoughts broke off when the pain in his head suddenly spiked up and he felt himself fall over in agony, in the real world, from shock. Ok! OK! I'LL TELL YOU!

The she-demon's giggling was very prominent within his mind. "Oh, poor meat sack... Now tell me. He never informs me of any of his tricks."

Y-you're not going to use them, are you? Bill asked, paranoid.

She chuckled. "No, of course not. Dipper would be pissed off and I can't pull the things that he does anyways."

That was somewhat reassuring to Bill, even if she was a demon. Well, he likes to threaten me, and cut me, torture me.... And he likes to make me feel really uncomfortable.

Mabel laughed once again. "Oh, he's always been like that: trying to woo his victims. I try to just charm them."

Bill cocked his head to the side. Why are you telling me this?

"It's not like you even notice when I do it," she giggled and Bill went ridged.

Well, Bill thought quite confidently, it's not like Dipper's going to be able to "woo" me.

There was some silence before Mabel responded. "Hmm... Sometimes you don't have much of a choice."

The blonde's heart sped up. W-what?

"Ugh, I'm tried of talking to you through thought. Come into your mind already, you little gremlin," she said, ignoring Bill's inquiry.

Bill panicked. What?! No! I'm not

He fell asleep against his will.
